It was their other hometown for 60 years. With the moving and removing of military dependent villages, we believe that when facing such a cruel policy, military dependent villages should have a different appearance. The theme this year is an extension of “continuation”. The story about time represents the daily scenes in military dependent villages. As you go through the exhibition, walk through the military dependent village in another way. With conversations between cultural and historical relics, you will get to meet a new military dependent village. Kaohsiung Museum of History This exhibition focuses on the sense of touch, ushering young viewers to enjoy an exciting tactile adventure. It consists of three sections. “A Touch of Textures” invites children to touch materials seen in everyday life, feel the differences between softness and hardness, smoothness and roughness, and observe how painting skill can represent different textures. “Maze of Textures” wakes up the memories of the skin and inspires children to perceive the world through the sense of touch. “Magic World of Materials” leads children to a world built with ordinary objects, where they can enjoy a good time of exploration and daydreaming. ■KMFA ( Children’s Museum of Art ) Gallery 201 Opening Hours : Tue. to Sun. 09:00-17:00 ( Monday & Holidays closed ) Address : No.157-2 Guishan Lane, Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City ( Enter through the Haiguang parking lot located at the corner of Shengli Rd. and Xinzhuangzhi Rd., or take a 5 minute walk from the old East door of Zuoying ) Tel : 07-5882775︱Website : http://village.khcc.gov.tw/internet/ Exhibition of Contemporary Ex-Libris Collection Adventure Land of Touch 2009/06/28/~2011/05/30 The Story about Time Exhibition on the Story of Life in the Military Dependent’s Village HAM Gallery Golden Palm award winner in Cannes Film Festival 2010 ■KMFA Galleries 104-105 2011/01/25~2012/03/27 01/01 Sat. 19:00 01/06 Thu. 14:00 01/07 Fri. 19:00 01/13 Thu. 14:00 01/14 Fri. 19:00 01/22 Sat. 14:30•19:30 Video Taiwan Homage to the Master 01/08 Sat. 19:00 01/12 Wed. 19:00 01/15 Sat. 14:00 Venue: 3F, Kaohsiung Film Archive For tickets, please contact Kaohsiung Film Archive, Arts Ticket, 7-11ibon, Hi-life convenience stores. Thanks to the generous support of Chou Ching-hui, the curator for Taiwan region, we are able to feature the works of the participating Taiwanese photographers at our museum. Our attempt is to present to local viewers the achievements of these photographers who have attracted international attention, as well as the vigorous diversity of Taiwan’s contemporary photography, which underlines documentary representation, image capturing, creativity, form, etc. ■KMFA Galleries 201-203 Two Best Actor and one Outstanding Artistic Contribution : three Silver Bear awards in Berlin International Film Festival 2010 01/04 Tue. 19:00 01/09 Sun. 14:00 01/11 Tue. 19:00 01/13 Thu. 19:00 01/15 Sat. 19:00 Stories Developing: 10 Contemporary Photographers of Taiwan Born in Kaohsiung in 1910, Chang Chi-hua was the first local artist to study art in Japan and hold a solo exhibition in Kaohsiung. He initiated art associations and was a pioneer of Western painting in Kaohsiung. Chang was also a dedicated art educator who Omaggio a Sirio / 2005, 80 X 100 cm / enthusiastically helped the development of art in Kaohsiung. He died in 1987 at the age Acrylic on canvas / Courtesy of Tina Keng Gallery of 73. His family donated 131 pieces of his works to the KMFA in 1997. This year marks Chang’s 100th birthday and this exhibition is held to commemorate his contributions to Kaohsiung. The Gallery ■Special Exhibition 3 The works by Colin Offord, an Australian artist, are deeply influenced by the natural landscape and cultural characteristics of Australia. His artistic language is unique in its combination of Eastern and Western arts. Offord uses natural elements such as resin from Xanthorrhoea, a plant native to Australia, and red iron oxide stones as his creative media. His brush strokes are spontaneous and abstract while the personalized figures in his works convey a message that these life forms are transient but the earth line is eternal. It shows the exquisite artistry of the various techniques of printmaking and lets the visitors have a peep at the great contribution to the ex-libris art made by the collectors. Forum for Creativity in Art This exhibition is organized by the KMFA as one of the serial exhibitions of the “Homage to the Master.” Born in Shanghai, Hsiao Chin grew up in Taiwan, yet has lived in Italy for over 50 years. In the 1950’s, he studied painting under Li Chun-shen, and was a member of the avant-garde Ton-Fan Art Group. It has been 55 years since he travelled to Europe. Amidst the waves of Western modern art, Hsiao has never lost sight of his inner self. His artworks contain both the style of modern art, as well as the philosophy of the East. Thus, the museum has conducted a study on its selected portrait collections and organized this exhibition. The exhibition of portraits is like an open book of faces, giving rich and interesting clues to how artists view their models and the world in their unique perspectives. Through this “book of faces,” we attempt to establish a network like the Facebook, in which viewers connect not only with the figures portrayed in the paintings but also with each other in the real world. The works on view are made specifically for the gallery space of the KMFA, using corrugated paper, a commonly seen industrial material. Her work integrates the on-site space with those who participate in the creative process, giving birth to works that resonate with the characteristics of the site and local people. Through piling, stacking and distorting corrugated paper, Huang creates something like 3D abstract paintings, inviting viewers to walk into a poetic and pictorial space. 2010/12/23~2011/03/27 2010/10/09~2011/03/13 Date 01/02 Sun.14:00 01/06 Thu. 19:00 3.
