Frequently Asked Questions
Do campers need to bring their own snacks/
lunch?
Theatrical Face Painting!
Yes! Please put in a sturdy lunch container– not a
bag. We are surrounded by a wildlife preserve and sometimes our animal friends get very curious about food. We
provide juice and water throughout the day. We have snack
machines in the lobby which provide a variety of
prepackaged items for purchase. We do not have
refrigeration or microwave services for lunches.
Camp Aardvark 2013
June 17—July 27, 2013
What should campers wear?
Campers need to wear comfortable clothes that
are appropriate for our environment. Campers must wear
tennis shoes with socks. Crocs and sandals do not provide
adequate protection for our campers.
On Water Days, we set up our inflatable water
play structure. Campers should wear bathing suits under
their clothes to minimize lost clothing items.
What if my camper needs medication?
Music...
And much more!
Hawarden Hills Academy is the
first and only official
Garden Gnome Sanctuary in
the United States!
All medication on the school campus has to
adhere to health department guidelines. The medicine must be in the original prescription bottle with
the name of the patient, the doctor, the type of medicine, dosage instructions and the expiration date. Parents check in the medicine at the front office and we
will administer per the dosage instructions. Asthma
medications can be administered as needed. We cannot administer any over the counter medications without a physician’s written instruction. Campers may
bring sunscreen in a container labeled with the
camper’s name. The camper may apply as needed.

Camp Aardvark is a dynamic balance of
recreational and creative activities. Led by
the Hawarden Hills Academy faculty,
campers make new discoveries and try new
things, all in a small group setting. This
Summer we are celebrating childhood–
imaginative play, ceramics, sports, Latin
dance, Introductory Kung-Fu, Water Play,
music, and robotics.
Prima Terra™, the cooking program
developed at the academy is scheduled every
week. Prima Terra™ uses a holistic approach
for family meals—including nutrition and
eco-friendly ingredients.
Campers will be registered in the IXL
math program which allows individualized
math review on iPADs at the school or at
home during scheduled weeks.
International students can take
advantage of our popular English Immersion
program. The morning includes 2 hours of
intensive writing instruction in a classroom
setting. The afternoon allows International
campers to practice English language skills
during our afternoon activities.

Hawarden Hills Academy is the premier private
school in Riverside and the only one in California
integrating the Vygotsky cognitive theory into the
school curriculum. Recognizing that learning
requires social interaction and modeling, teachers
and their students are collaborators who help
facilitate mastery of a particular task or process.
Robotics Fun!
