Knockout & Canadian Content
Contest
The last round of Ottawa Branch Knockout competitions
took place Feb. 8, 2014 at HMCS Bytown Officers' Mess
in Ottawa. It was a busy affair with all categories in action.
Adjudicators were Bob Waugh (Drumming) and Bob
Worrall (Piping). Following the competitions, Bob Worrall
gave a fantastic recital despite the lateness of the hour to
a rousing request for an encore which he politely
obliged. Thank you Bob Worrall!
Group A Piping was competing for the Canadian Content
Trophy. Each tune in their medley had to have a
Canadian composer.

Mòd 2014
Bruce Campbell is a well-known and highly respected
piper/pipe-major, publisher, historian and adjudicator will
be delivering a seminar series on Pìobaireachd,
adjudicating, and delivering a piping/pìobaireachd
workshop at our Mòd Chanada event May 30th/May
31st/June 1st at University of Ottawa. Mòd Chanada
focuses attention on and promotes awareness for
Scottish Gàidhlig language, music and culture. This year,
there will be a strong focus on pìobaireachd and Ceòl
Mòr in general. We are hoping to attract not just regular
Mòd goers (pipers who compete on practice chanter and
small-pipes), but have opened a new competition on
Saturday, May 31st for those wanting to compete by
playing an Ùrlar of their favourite pìobaireachd tune, and
receiving an adjudication for their playing. As always
there are good prizes to be won, and fun to be had.
Entry to the seminar series is included in the nominal
Mòd admission fee. Competition entry fees as well are
nominal. The all-day workshop on Sunday, June 1st is
available for $50, and places will be limited, so it's a
good idea to book ahead. An idea of what Bruce includes
in his workshops can be found at:

Mòd 2014
There are always an array of great prizes to be won at
Mòd Canada. Lunch is served and unique items can be
purchased at our on-site store and silent-auction. NOTE:
Taking an annual $25 annual membership in Comunn
Gàidhlig Ottawa includes 1 individual entry to the Mòd.
All other competitors must pay the appropriate entry fee
to the Mòd. All competitor members and non-member
must pay the price for each event as indicated on the
Category Pages
Admission to the Mòd is $10/per person, $25/family,
children under 12, military/police veterans and senior
citizens are admitted on a good-will offering basis.
Competitions are $5/per entry/per competition
