GRASS FIRE — What had been a permitted burn on Sunday
rekindled on Monday. Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department
requested mutual aid from Murray, Bellevue and Offutt Air Force
Base for the fire that spread from the north end of Beach Road. The
fire was getting into some trees and tall grasses, said Plattsmouth
Fire Chief Mike Wilson.
The extra manpower was needed because the fire had to be fought
on foot by firefighters wearing Indian backpacks. The area was
surrounded by lakes.
No structures were threatened but time was of the essence to keep
the fire from spreading. It was about an hour before command said
the fire was under control and only hotspots remained.
It was the second grass fire in as many days for the Plattsmouth
department in an area inaccessible to trucks. Fire units were called
to the Schilling Wildlife Management Area on Sunday. The fire was
in an island-type area of the game reserve.
Firefighters could not get to the fire to extinguish the flames so fire
officials could only monitor the situation.
It is not known how that fire started.

MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY WARRANTS — Cass County Sheriff's

afternoon. The arrest occurred without incident.
33-year-old Trevor J. Bickford of Weeping Water was booked into

the Cass County Jail and is awaiting an appearance before a judge
for the setting of bond.

The preliminary hearing dates have not been set yet.
Court records show Bickford was out on bond on another case. A
jury trial is scheduled for June in Cass County District Court for
alleged offenses on October 7th, 2015. The charges: Resisting
Arrest, 2nd Offense, a Class IIIA Felony; Obstructing a Peace
Officer, a Class I Misdemeanor; two counts of Disturbing The Peace,
Class III Misdemeanors.
He has entered not guilty pleas to those four charges.
