A Message from Senior Teacher Jerlin
Happy 2016! There are lots of updates to tell you about this year.
At Kalim School, PHBGTU and school sponsors, Baan Rim Pa, bid farewell to Director Chawee who transferred to a school in Phuket Town. We
look forward to meeting our new Director soon.
At Kamala School we bid farewell to Director Wisan and welcomed new
Director, Khun Narisara. We look forward to working with her to keep improving the children’s education.

We are supporting the Thai teachers in Kamala School by running an
after-school Language Exchange Programme. The idea is to help the
Thai teachers improve their English and to help our teachers further their
knowledge of Thai culture and better understand their students. We have
high hopes for the future of this language exchange programme.

Also in Kamala School, Coconut Club is going from strength to strength.
This semester we started our Monday guitar club for the residential students thanks to donations from Do Re Mi in Phuket Town and Friend of
the Foundation, Melinda Giannini, from Australia. If you are in Phuket
do come and visit the children at Coconut Club.

As the school year is coming to an end, we wish all the students good
luck in their end of year exams and we look forward to more exciting and

Updates from Kamala
Jean-Claude and Khun Kantaya sponsor Teacher Hossain’s
Senior School Year 1, Malee is the Star Student this month
Malee is a star student in year 1 of Senior School. Last semester she obtained the highest scores in her class. She has grown in confidence and
has improved her reading and writing skills a great deal over the past semester. Malee is always eager to learn new things and put them into
practice. I am sure this eagerness to learn will take her far in the future.
Another thing that makes Malee so special is her ability to lead her peers
and help them in the classroom. Whenever she is done with her work,
Malee will look for others who need help or support. She really enjoys acting as a mentor in the class. I am sure she will continue to grow as an
amazing student. I look forward to teaching her for the rest of the year
and wish her all the best in the future.

Teacher Bella’s Kamala Kindergarten Class

I am enjoying every single step of my journey as I teach
Kamala Kindergarten students this year. These children,
aged 3-6, are at a very important stage of learning if they
are to become competent English speakers.
Each of them has a different personality which requires a
varied teaching style but that just makes the job all the
more fun. Recently, the children have been having a lot of
fun playing games. One of their favorites is to act as ‘little
teacher’ and get up in front of the class to show their
friends how it’s done. This semester we have been learning shapes, colours, food, emotions, weather and numbers. With little mouths to sing and repeat, little hands to
color, trace and write, little feet to walk, hop and run,
they’re certainly learning and having fun!

This is Sky who is in his first year of Secondary School. Sky is
one of our quieter students but is a regular at Coconut Club. He
is always the first to ask what the afternoon’s activities are and
always gets involved. His favorite activities include art and Lego
and he is looking forward to his birthday next month as he gets
to go to a party at Bliss Beach Club!

Coconut Club
This semester at Coconut Club, Teachers Jerlin
and Hamant started a Guitar Club for the students.
The Guitars were kindly donated by Melinda Giannini when she came to visit us in November and
Do Re Mi music store in Phuket Town. We can’t
seem to keep the children away, they love learning
new songs, and making up their own! Some of our
regulars to Guitar Club have managed to learn
some chords and songs and the great thing is that
students of all ages love to come along and practice their music skills. Thank you Mel and Do Re Mi
and well done Jerlin and Hamant for giving the students the opportunity to play a musical instrument.
Lego is always popular at Coconut Club. The
teachers try to have ‘Lego Day’ once a week and
every few weeks we have competitions to see
who can make the best musical instruments,
flags, castles or nature scenes. Lego makes a
great donation for Coconut Club and birthday
presents, we’re sure the children would agree
that you can never have too much! If you would
like to donate some gifts for the children get in

Every Saturday we take a group of
students swimming. It is a great
chance for them to have fun while
learning an important life skill. Thanks
to Thanyapura, Kamala Dreams, the
Palms Resort and Hyatt Regency
we are able to swim even when the
ocean is unsafe.

XL Catlin, we couldn't get there without you! Also, to Kamala Green
Club for teaching the students the
importance of looking after the environment and donating the bags so the children can clean the
beach on the way to swimming.

Fundraising
Black Tie Muay Thai II
The final fundraising event of 2015 was Black
Thai Muay Thai II at Outrigger Laguna Phuket
Beach Resort which was a huge success. We
were so grateful to have local celebrities Kim
’Blue Elephant’ Steppe, Jason ’Paperboy’
Beavan, Jay ’Leshark’ Walker and Leo ’The
Lion’ Ferrari giving up their time to train and
fight. On the night we were joined by Abbey
Stone, a fantastic new singer from Australia.
Thank you to everyone who came and made
the night so special!
In January we were lucky enough to be charity
of choice for PIMEX at Royal Phuket Marina.
This was a great chance for us to spread the
word about all the good work we do and make
some important contacts for the future.

Christmas Tree Campaign
For the second year running we ran our Christmas Tree
Campaign in hotels around the island. We want to thank
all of the hotels who took part and supported us on this
project. This is a great way for us to raise extra funds
and spread the word about the work we do. This year
we raised over 25,000 Baht! Please go to our thank

Phuket Condos & Homes
At Christmas we had a visit from
Andres and Nadear from Phuket Condos & Homes who
sponsor Teacher Meg. We want
to thank them for their continued support, Phuket
Condos & Homes have been sponsoring a teacher for the nearly 2 years now. Through their sponsorship we have been able to really help change
the lives of our Thai students.
The Volunteer Bay and Kamala Green Club
In November 2015 we had a visit from a group of volunteers from The Volunteer Bay. They took the children swimming on the beach and then treated them all
to an ice cream afterwards. Thanks to Kamala Green
Club, the children also learned about the importance of
looking after their environment and did a beach clean
before they went swimming. With the donations that the
volunteers kindly made, The Volunteer Bay now sponsor a class at Kamala. We look forward to working with
Kamala Green Club and seeing The Volunteer Bay
again soon.
