President’s Message from Rebecca Ott
Happy Summer everyone! I’m
writing my very first President’s
message to you all, and am so
excited to be a part of this great
team.
One thing that drew me to the
ABWA is that it would be a platform for me to get the opportunity to mentor other younger women in the ways of business; to offer up my skill sets. But what I
found was something quite the
contrary. Although I have gotten
to mentor others along the way,
that has become more a byproduct of what I’ve been privileged to do; the greater thing has
been that I’ve gotten to stretch
myself in other areas not expected. Jumping in, getting out
of my comfort zone, learning a
new thing, working alongside
other professional women, and being allowed to be mentored myself
has been the best thing. John Maxwell said, “If we are growing we
are always going to be outside our
comfort zone”.
This year, we have lots of projects
planned, fun events to take part in,
conferences to learn from, and,
more importantly, ABWA sisters
to do it all with! My challenge to
you all this upcoming year would
be to envision yourself something
more than you are today, and to
take some risks and step outside of
your own comfort zone. Who
knows, you might even surprise
yourself along the way! And,
we’ll all be here to cheer you on!

Tri-County Council ABW Day Celebration 2015
To those of you that have never attended our Tri-County Council event, you
really need to attend this one! This
year it is September 11-13 (see flyer on
Page 6). The main event is all day on
Saturday, but the festivities begin Friday morning and continue through
Sunday.
The hotel offers free breakfast and happy hour to all registered guests. Two
room suites are only $115 per night.
So this is your chance to experience
ABWA from a more global aspect.
Come for the whole weekend or only
part of it, but don’t miss it.

A Thank You to Jan Peterson
I would like to thank you (and I know I
speak for the chapter as well) for the last
three years of service to our chapter for
chairing our Social Events, Community
Service and Fundraising. Your own quarterly fundraisers brought in funds to support our chapters' endeavors of supporting
member education and our Outright Grant
recipients.
Thank you for planning our last social
event of the chapter year at Friday's on
the 24th. It was a lot of work organizing
and planning on your part, I only wish
more members had been there to enjoy
the fellowship and especially the great
appetizers furnished by the chapter. It
was truly a fun evening and enjoyed by
all.
Thanks also to Mike for supporting you
in your efforts on behalf of the chapter
which takes time away from the family,
we appreciate you both.
You are a very special person, one who
gives way more than 100% when you
take on a responsibility, and I (we) love
you for what you do.

April 18, 2015
Attendees of this year’s Eastern Regional Conference had an added item
on the agenda - the opportunity to participate in the record breaking wedding
of Tina Ackles, past National President
and her fiancé, Thomas Rodgers.
Congratulations to Darlene Bucar, the July
recipient. Darlene is a devoted member
that has worked tirelessly behind the
scenes on several chapter projects while
dealing with serious health issues. She has
been a member since 2012.
"The Member of the Month" pin is given
from one member to another in recognition
of the receiver's having gone above and
beyond just attending the monthly meeting.
It is meant to recognize a member who has
made contributions to the Chapter and
shares ABWA with others. Past recipients

July 8, 2015 Chapter Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by
President Pat Key. We recited the
Pledge of Allegiance and Pat reviewed
the ABWA Mission Statement.
Introductions were made by members,
guests and vendors.
A total of 19 members and 23 guests
were present.
CHAPTER BUSINESS
guest speaker, discussing the importance of
“getting in the game” and how to get involved in the many different education
possibilities and committees available to
us. She also presented to us a “pen-pal”
option via email and had us randomly
choose a name of another ABWA member
to connect with – a member we did not
know. Several women chose a member to
email/connect with and we will let Lois
know how our connection went.
This evening we had our Christmas in
July event prior to our meeting, with
approximately 23 vendors in attendance.
Women were able to shop and proceeds
from the vendor fees were submitted to
ABWA for education and development.
This huge task was organized and
chaired by Karen Dooley, and a great
success!
Pat Key was presented with gifts as the out
-going President; one gift presented by the
Board and Jan Peterson, and the other from
the Chapter.
Pat announced July birthdays: Debbie
Gratton and Sam Markwell.
The National Women’s Leadership Conference will be October 15-17, 2015 in
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The June chapter minutes were accepted
as published.
New members Jennifer Cuhna and Ann
Lewis were installed.
The SBMEF Grant check in the amount
of $1500.00 was presented to recipient
Ann Lewis by Pat Key and Sharon Maupin.
Sharon Maupin was recognized as a Top
Ten in Women in the ABWA In Business magazine. Congrats!
The requirements for Best Practices are
almost met and we expect completion
by the end of the month.
Perfect Attendance certificates were
presented to Pat Key, Dottie Smith, Karen Dooley, Beverley Jamason, Jan Peterson, Janice Kuhns, Sam Markwell,
Sharon Maupin, and Rebecca Ott.
The new Chapter Board was installed by
Tri-County Chair Lois Margolin, consisting of Rebecca Ott - President, Dottie Smith - Vice President, Pat Key –
Treasurer, and Heidi Epstein – Secretary
(not at ceremony). Lois was also our
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chapter dues can be paid online at
www.abwanpbflorida.org.
We are now collecting school supplies for
a September delivery. Please bring any
supplies you would like to donate to our
August meeting. More info to follow in
regards to an emailed list of what supplies
we will need.
We will be reviewing the SPOT analysis
and confirming the budget for the new year
at our August meeting. The budget will be
reviewed and any comments/suggestions
will be done at the Board meeting next
Tuesday, June 14th at Dottie’s office. All
are welcome to attend and give their comments at that time. There will only be a
vote at the August meeting to accept the
budget.
There will be a 16-month calendar at this
year’s ABW Day and advertising forms are
available if anyone is interested in putting
an ad in.

July 14, 2015 Board Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Rebecca Ott at 7:00 pm.
Members present: Pat Key, Dottie Smith,
Janice Kuhns, Rebecca Ott, Jan Peterson,
and Debbie Gratton.
Overview of July 2014 Meeting
There were 23 vendor tables at the Christmas In July event. The profit from the
tables was $445.00, plus funds raised on
raffle tickets brought the total to $695.00.
It was decided to put a minimum price for
the raffle gifts and no gift under $15.00.
We all agreed that Karen Dooley did an
excellent job putting together this event
and really kept her cool when things got a
little crazy. We discussed having a committee for the event next year as it is a lot
for one person to handle.
We needed a mike for the meeting and
also ran out of food. One idea for next
year was to have two rooms. One for the
meeting and the other for vendors.
Speaker Lois Margolin did a great job on
the installation of the new officers. She
wrote a little skit for each office. Afterwards she told us a very interesting story
about volunteering and getting more involved with AWBA.
Best practices update: Goals – Education
New Business
Per Rebecca, our newly-elected Secretary, Heidi Epstein, has resigned her
position for the upcoming election year
2015-2016. The Board has appointed
Debbie Gratton as the Secretary in Heidi’s stead for the new year. Debbie
agreed to step in and continue the duties
for that position.
Treasurer’s Report
The treasurer's report was reviewed. The
board reviewed the proposed budget and
made changes where necessary. It was a
unanimous vote that the Chapter will be
purchasing a laptop computer for the
board to input reports and financials.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Social Events
Jan has scheduled a Happy Hour for the
Chapter on Friday, July 24th, from 5-7,
at the TGI Friday’s on Legacy Place on
PGA Blvd.
We discussed the possibility of having a
Professional
Development
event:
"Fashion for the Executive". Carrie and
Elsa from Carielle's Closet are willing to
sponsor this event. No date has yet been
confirmed, but possibly in November.
There will be no guest speaker for the
August meeting. We will be reviewing
the SPOT analysis, Standing Rules, and
vote on the budget.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Fundraising
The empty bowl project raised $275.00
for the 2015 Palm Beach Empty
Bowls event. Jan will be submitting a
check to the Palm Beach County Food
Bank.
Education
We will look into the previous scholarship recipient, Lea Queenan, to see if she
has graduated or is still attending school.
If she is still attending school, then her
dues needs to be paid. Rebecca sent her
an email to find out her intentions, and is
still awaiting a response.

2015. The last social event for the
year was held on July 24th - Happy
Hour at TGI Friday’s in Legacy
Place, Palm Beach Gardens. It was
attended by Pam Rue, Beverly
Jamason, Sharon Maupin, Lee Menter, Debbie Gratton, Jan & Mike Peterson, Tina and Barry Ravel, Janice
Kuhns, Dottie Smith and Pat Key.
Appetizers were “bottomless”, so we
extended our happy hour enjoying the
food and drink and camaraderie!
