Once again your island dentists, Dr. Mark and Joan Johnson were caught
reading their favorite news paper, The San Pedro Sun, this time hiking through
Queens Town, New Zealand, the lagest city of the southern island. It was a bit
brisk that morning so Dr. Mark had to reach for his favorite Cholo’s shirt to put
over his other clothes, to help keep the chill off. We love our San Pedro Sun!
Photos taken in unique and unusual places are preferred.

Captain Morgan’s Retreat A Tempting Paradise Getaway
Dubbed Temptation Island since 2001, Captain Morgan’s has a magical way
of living up to the accolades. Whether it is tempting you to rise with the early
birds and watch the sun emerge from the Caribbean turquoise waters, or maybe
it is tempting you to submerge yourself in the refreshing sea and enjoy an underwater adventure, or perhaps it simply tempts you to take a walk under the starlit
skies with the one you love. Whatever the temptation may be, Captain Morgan’s
Retreat and Vacation Club welcomes you.
Located three and a half miles north from the busy streets of San Pedro
Town, in a time still living in the past, Captain Morgan’s has beautifully blended
the charm of yesteryear with the glorious amenities that we all have grown
accustomed to. With eight free standing cabañas and various one and two bedroom villas, Captain Morgan’s takes care of your every necessity, leaving nothing to desire.
Recently named Premier Resort by Interval International, who they have
been affiliated with for the past few years; Captain Morgan’s is the only resort
within Central America, excluding Mexico, that has achieved this status given
to resorts that offer the highest, state-of-the-art conveniences, modern features
and appointments. Captain Morgan’s is one step above the rest.
The Cabañas
Each of the eight cabañas stands on
its own offering you the privacy that
you long for. The charm of a thatched
house setting on the beach clamors romanticism. Each unit begs total and
complete relaxation in the comfort that
will envelop you and your partner. They
all offer a king sized bed, a small sitting area and a hot and cold private
bathroom. Other amenities include a
safe, air conditioning, small refrigerator, and a coffee maker. Yes, why not
enjoy a cup of Joe while the sun rises
in full open view of your private balcony.
Adding a touch of charm to each
cabaña is the name designated to them.

would be perfect. The units sit on the
glorious white beaches and each have
a queen sized bed in the bedroom, a
living room area with a full size foldout
sofa, a fully equipped kitchenette,
tables, chairs and a full view of the Caribbean Sea and reef. Two bedroom villas differ by having two queen sized
beds, one in each bedroom and two full

Each air conditioned unit has its own
verandah and all the other amenities
needed such as, a refrigerator, microwave, stove top, and coffee maker.
Heaven does not get any better than this.

Opening Soon: Lobster Season
SPBA Lobster Festival – June 14th – 21st
The San Pedro Business Association (SPBA) announced their dates for the
much anticipated second Annual Lobster Festival. To be held from June 14th
to June 21st, there are many activities planned to make this year’s eight day
long activities a smashing success.
Lobsterfest 2008 officially kicks of on June 14th in the evening with the
official “Meat & Greet” Cocktail Party which will be held at Banana Beach’s
El Divino Restaurant. The night will be the official launch of Lobsterfest cocktail
party and will have tummies content with El Divino’s famous Brazilian Rotisserie. Last year’s great performance by ‘The Fat Cats’ will happen once
more. The Cats will be back this year for more fun in the sun.
Kathy and Ken White have owned a timeshare period at the deluxe Captain
Morgan’s Retreat and Vacation Club for the past nine years. Living in New
Jersey, USA the couple enjoys two weeks in the month of May in sunny Ambergris Caye. Next year will mark 10 years since they first arrived on the island.
“We had been previously vacationing in the Cayman Islands for many years.
Too much traffic, too many people turned it into a commercial destination and
we did not feel comfortable there anymore,” explained Ken. “We got on the
internet and discovered Ambergris Caye and Captain Morgan’s”
Karen continued by stating, “The people here made the difference, they are
genuinely friendly and nice.”
For the past years, the Whites have enjoyed the amenities, the room, and the
services offered at Captain Morgan’s Retreat. “The staff has got to be the best
and the continuity of the employees has kept me at the resort. It is nice to have
the same people welcome you home and are truly happy to see you.”
Ken and Kathy White are but one of the many owners that Captain Morgan’s
Retreat welcomes to their shores every year. For further information contact a
Captain Morgan’s representative.

Wolfe’s

Paperwork
“Why they want to know all of this stuff?” Lionel asked me.
“Because it’s government business,” I told him. “Whenever you’re trying to
do something with the U.S. government they want to know everything about
you.”
I was at the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan to pick up some paperwork. Lionel
owns a taxi in Belize City and he had driven me to the Capitol City at a good
price because he wanted to apply for a visa.
“I know they want to know everything but some of this seems useless,” Lionel
said. “I got to write down my wife’s name and all my children, where I work,
and all kind of things. They make it hard to get a visa. This is confusing.”
“I think they make it confusing so people will give up and just not apply,” I
told him.
“I’ll fill out all of these forms,” Lionel said, “and then I’ll have you check it
over when I’m done. That way I’ll know it’s pretty right.”
“Sure.”
“Mr. Wolfe. The consul will see you now,” the lady behind the glass window
called to me.
When I came out of the consul’s room a few minutes later, Lionel was just
finishing with his visa application.
“Check this over,” he said.
“It looks pretty good to me,” I said, as I glanced over it. “You’ve got your
wife’s name and all your children, your income, what you plan to do in the U.S.
and …Hey! Wait a minute!”
“What?” Lionel asked.
“On this one part they ask you to put in the age of your father and mother if
living. You have your father’s age as 127 and your mother’s age as 122. Is that
their correct ages?”
“It asks for their age if living,” Lionel said. “That’s how old they would be if
they were living.”
