LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
When I started as Executive Director of the PMA this fall, I had no idea how rewarding it was
going to be to be a part of the great things happening at this museum. Some highlights from
the 2013 year include numerous improvements to the building like a new sign on the Main St.
corner, new exterior paint, and restoring the Charles W. Lamar Sr. Assembly Room to serve
as a fifth gallery for the permanent collection and special exhibitions. The Museum store also
got a facelift and re-merchandizing treatment as we added new, exciting artistic products and
refreshed the local artist offerings. We hosted 15 exhibitions between the upstairs and downstairs galleries, carried out our robust children’s art education classes, and held two major
events: Art in the Park and Suite Soirée. The Museum created a brand new (and subsequently
successful) educational opportunity that serves our community
of children on the autism spectrum called Art Academy for Autism, in partnership with Autism Pensacola. Art education and
outreach is such a large part of what we do here, and we treasure our ability to positively affect children and adults through
the visual arts.
We are looking forward to celebrating the Museum’s 60th
anniversary all year long in 2014. We even have a new, dynamic membership group to add called the PMA Contemporaries that was created to serve the young professional
demographic in our community that endeavors to spark the
interest of the next generation of visual arts supporters.
And all of this would not have been possible without our dedicated Board of Trustees, Guild,
volunteers and staff who focus their passion for the PMA into carrying out the brilliant
things that we do here. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished in 2013 and we’re ready
for a truly celebratory 2014. Let me be the first to wish a very happy 60th anniversary to the
PMA!
Sincerely,
Jodi Gup
