Non-RROC SoCal Event So now you all know that I was a child bride, or at least in my early twenties, and I am still married to the love of my life. In fact, here we are on our way to the Renaissance Faire (I know you do remember that). So young and so much in love. It was so exciting, almost like owning our first Rolls-Royce. The Santa Anita Concours was a truly fantastic event. Thank you to all of you for bringing out your beautiful PMCs and what a fantastic collection we had. We had an unbelievable member turnout, with this year having the largest attendance that we have had at the Concours in quite a while. I want to personally thank all of you for being there and making this event such a great success. We went to the Lew Webb Collection in May and the unbelievable collection of cars was magnificent. It is truly amazing that this was a personal collection. It was almost museum quality, and such a treat to experience. We have a lot of great events planned for the rest of 2011, starting with the June Swap Meet that is going to be something new. We know that over the years many of you have collected RollsRoyce and Bentley memorabilia, along with extra parts, manuals and other PMC items. Here is your chance to get rid of some of those items you may have collected but really don’t need right now, and also collect some new things that you didn’t know you needed before now. This is a free event, so (continued on page 7) 9-10 Lotusland in Santa Barbara Host: Jay Barry Colin 6-12 Trek to Tahoe Hosts: Perry Hirsch and Harold Pope 14-18 RROC National Meet in Tahoe 10 Board Meeting Hosts: Perry and Peggy Hirsch 17-18 English Motors at Fairbrook Farm, Fallbrook Benefit Meals on Wheels, Non-RROC event 24 Lane Victory Battleship Host: Bobby Meeker 1 Ladies Tech Meet Host: Ronny Shaver 23 Fox Hunt Hosts: Howard and Betty Green & Don and Enid Raich 5 Ronald Reagan Library Hosts: Robert and Kathleen Wulf 12 Board Meeting Hosts: Tom and Terri Mercurio 24Y ears K aren P errault RROC-SOCAL.COM FREE J uly $147 A ugust $175 S eptember October N ovember JUNE 2011 M ember News M ember News T rek toT ahoeR egistration Rick Carron & his team of judges Chief J udge’sP erspective on S uccess Rick Carron, Chief Judge Our 38th Annual Concours d’Elégance at Santa Anita Park was incredible on several levels. First, the weather was perfect, warm and sunny offering spectacular views of the San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop and the magnificent architecture of the iconic Santa Anita complex and of course, those beautiful horses! In addition to the above, Tom and Terri Mercurio provided the beautiful Waterford trophies and hand-crafted certificates. 62 motor cars and 136 club members and friends participated in the festivities and our cars represented over 80 years of Rolls-Royce and Bentley design. All classes were well represented. We judged 56 cars and presented 39 awards. Special thanks to our skilled Team Captains, the senior judges who make the Concours judging program a success. They are Tom Mercurio, Tom Warden, Robert Ratinoff, William Sundin, Tom Dolan, J.M.A von Bleich, Craig Roberts, Dave Dwoskin, Lou Oddo, Pierre Lemieux and Karen Perrault. Assisting the Team Captains were the following Judges whom we thank for their valuable service: Ray Perrault, Ronny Shaver, Steve Power-Fardy, Paul and Evvie Dailey, Willy Hugron, Sherry Stern, Stu Olesker, Dori Olsen, Ron Budnik, Greg Conte, John Luma, Steve Butler, Bill Cronkhite, Steve Cronkhite, Benôit Gateau-Cumin and Susana Parks. 6 JUNE 2011 Members wishing to go on the Trek to Tahoe six-day tour need to register this month, and the sooner the better so that we can finalize all meals and events. The tour will begin August 6, 2011 in Oakhurst, California near Yosemite National Park, and will end on August 12th in Squaw Valley by Lake Tahoe, at which time you can either attend the RROC National Meet, return home, or explore Lake Tahoe on your own. The deadline to register for the Trek to Tahoe is June 30, 2011, but we recommend registering early. The cost for the tour is $175 per person which will include a steam train ride through the mountains above Oakhurst to an outdoor dinner barbecue and evening entertainment, visiting a private museum of antique mechanical musical instruments and having dinner and watching a silent movie with live pipe organ accompaniment, visiting Columbia State Park in the gold rush country, going on a Lamplight tour of Columbia, and a tour of the State Capitol building. The driving routes will be very scenic, the pace will be moderate, and you will have free time to explore on your own or to shop. One dinner in each of the cities of Oakhurst, Sonora and Sacramento is included, and the rest of the meals are on your own. Hotel room rates have been established for twenty rooms (20). There will be a waiting list if all rooms are booked. Make your reservations no later than 31 days prior to the dates below.
