WWL-TV Action Reporter Bill Capo introduced this special series to New Orleans twenty-nine years ago, as part of Channel Four’s
commitment to encourage safe holiday driving. “Twelve for the Road” counts down to New Year’s Eve with a favorite non-alcoholic
holiday beverage from a range of well-known local and national personalities. Beginning Friday, December 20th, the series airs for
twelve consecutive nights during Eyewitness News at 10 p.m.
So let’s toast to the spirit of a safe and happy holiday, with a dozen great alcohol-free drinks!

to make simple syrup:
• ½ cup water
• ½ cup fresh orange juice
• ½ cup raw cane sugar
• ½ of a vanilla bean, split lengthwise
• 1 teaspoon finely chopped orange zest
• 1can Sanpellegrino Aranciata Rossa
(sparking blood orange soda)
• ½ cup cream, whip just until thickened,
but still pourable
• Ice cubes as needed
• Orange slices for garnish

• ½ oz. Pineapple Juice
• ½ oz. Grapefruit Juice
• ½ oz. Orange Juice
• ½ oz. Cranberry Juice
• ¾ oz. Grenadine
• 1 ½ oz. Sprite
• Sugar
• Lime
Fill a martini shaker with ice. Combine the
first six ingredients in the shaker and shake
vigorously. Sugar the rim of the martini glass
and strain the contents of the martini shaker
into the glass. Garnish with a lime slice.

• 3 oz. Raspberry lemonade
• 3 oz. Pineapple Juice
• 3 oz. Ginger Ale
• 7 oz. Raspberry Sorbet
Combine raspberry lemonade, with raspberry sorbet, stir in pineapple juice, and add
ginger ale when ready to serve. Garnish with
cherry, a delicious refreshing holiday drink.
First: Make a simple syrup in a small pan,
add the water, orange juice, cane sugar,
split vanilla bean, and orange zest. Bring
the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low
and simmer for 5 minutes. Strain and
refrigerate until fully chilled.
Second: To make two servings, in a
cocktail shaker, add 4 teaspoons of vanilla
simple syrup, 1 cup blood orange soda, 4
tablespoons of double cream, and 1 cup
of ice cubes. Shake gently. Strain into two
large cocktail glasses with 3 ice cubes.
Garnish with orange slices.
4. Double Hot Cider

• Glass of Apple Cider, Heated
• 15 drops of hot sauce (or to taste)
• Stir, and top with whipped cream
Garnish with cinnamon stick, pine nuts,
and two drops of hot sauce.

• 1 Teaspoon Crystal Light
Strawberry Kiwi Mix
• 1 drop green food coloring
• 1 cup crushed ice
Mix ingredients, and serve over ice.

• 2 tbsp. of Simple Syrup
• Fresh crushed mint
• 1 tbsp. Agave Nectar
• 1 teaspoon Honey
• ½ can Sanpellegrino
• Martinelli’s Apple Pomegranate
Sparkling Cider (to taste)
• 1 teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar
• Crushed ice
Blend the strawberries with honey and lemon juice, then mix it with mint and simple
syrup. Add a slice of lemon a cut strawberry
for garnish.

• 1 cup Ginger Ale
• 1 cup Apple Cider
• ¼ cup Ice
• ½ cup of Vanilla ice cream
• Cinnamon sticks
• Apple Slices

glass, pipe caramel around the inside of the
glass, creating swirls. In a martini shaker, add
gingerale,applecider,andice.Shakegently.
Add a small scoop of vanilla ice cream inside
each drink, using a cookie scoop. Garnish
with a cinnamon stick and a slice of apple.

• 3 oz. Satsuma Juice
• ¾ oz. Passion Fruit Syrup
• ½ oz. Lemon Juice
• Ginger Beer
Combine first three ingredients over ice in
a Collins glass. Top off with ginger beer.
Garnish with satsuma slice.

• 1 Heaping Tablespoon of Pumpkin Puree
• ½ cup of Vanilla ice cream
• 1 dash of Ronald Reginald’s Vanilla Extract
• 2 shakes Cinnamon Sugar
• 2 shakes Allspice
• 2oz. Milk
In a bowl, add pumpkin puree, softened
vanilla icecream,&milk.Mix & addvanilla
extract,cinnamonsugar,&allspice.Rim
glass with lemon juice; crust with cinnamon
sugar.Pourinmixture.Garnishwith
cinnamon stick & shake of cinnamon sugar.

• 1 Slice of Orange
• 2 Lime wedges
• 3 pieces of Mint
• 2oz. Orange Juice
• Ginger Beer
First: muddle orange slice, lime, and mint in
shaker – then and add orange juice and shake
all ingredients. Pour over ice and finish with
ginger beer.

Steam cold milk, then set aside, put peppermint syrup & white chocolate powder into 12
ounce coffee cup, add hot coffee until cup is
half full. Stir. Pour hot milk until ¼ inch from
top of cup, stir. Top with whipped cream, or
dollop of hot milk foam.
