Canada @ ITU Telecom World 2006
Introduction
Welcome to the Canada Pavilion!
Explore the dynamic companies and program activities of Canada at ITU
Telecom World 2006.
Canada’s presence is the largest ever, featuring more than 50 Canadian
exhibitors showcasing their capabilities in information and communications
technology (ICT). The innovative products and services offered by Canadian
exhibitors range from wireless and security to networking and more.
Canadians have long embraced the enabling and transformative potential
of ICT. And thanks to its history of telecom innovation, Canada is one of the
most digitally advanced economies in the world.
Here at the Canada Pavilion — through R&D broadband demonstrations
— visitors can see first-hand how ICTs are being applied, revolutionizing
critical sectors such as health care, security and education. This initiative
is a testament to the importance Canada places on R&D and broadband
access to its citizens.
More and more foreign investors are looking to do business in Canada. This comes as no surprise given the results of KPMG’s 2006 edition of its
international business cost comparative study, Competitive Alternatives,
which once again ranks Canada as the most cost-competitive G7 country.
In fact, in March 2006 the Economist Intelligence Unit of The Economist
predicted that Canada will be the best place to conduct business in the G7 — and third in the world — over the next five years.
Canada is an active player in global telecommunications, and its policy
frameworks in this area continue to evolve in keeping with an everchanging environment. Throughout the ITU Forum, a wide range of
Canadian speakers will share their perspectives on global telecom issues.
They will also outline what they see as the major opportunities and
challenges on the road ahead.
Thank you for visiting the Canada Pavilion at this prestigious event.
Discover and experience Canada’s digital advantage!

3D Cellular Inc.’s automation tools display switch information in the most
rapid, precise and efficient user interface available to wireless and PCS
engineers, technicians and operators for Ericsson, Lucent, Nortel and Nokia
switches.
These tools enable engineers to cut through the reams of switch data
emanating from a wireless system and isolate the specific data they need
to perform their engineering tasks. This results in vastly improved callprocessing accuracy and faster systems improvements and updates, and
ultimately more satisfied customers.
Objectives for Participating in ITU Telecom World 2006
3D Cellular Inc. wishes to meet with potential clients such as wireless
carriers, system integrators, software resellers and sales agents.

Exhibitor Profile
Baseband Technologies Inc. focuses on advanced Global Positioning System
(GPS) research and development. Considered a leader in software-based
GPS receiver design, Baseband Technologies’ revolutionary approach
replaces the dedicated GPS ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit)
or chipset of a traditional GPS receiver with a microprocessor that is
native to a particular target application. This allows mobile wireless
device or PDA developers to easily implement GPS functions using
the existing microprocessor. Replacing the ASIC/chipset will lower the
overall power consumption and cost of enabling GPS on mobile devices.
During its operational life cycle, the software-based GPS receiver can
be easily updated with new software that adds additional features and
functionalities. Baseband Technologies Inc. offers custom software GPS
receivers to suit individual customer specifications.
Objectives for Participating in ITU Telecom World 2006
Baseband Technologies Inc.’s prime objective is to promote its products and
services by identifying manufacturers to incorporate the firm’s softwarebased GPS receiver technology. Baseband Technologies Inc.’s secondary
objective is to seek suitable dealers to represent its products and services.

The International Institute of Telecommunications (IIT) is a forum that
brings together large organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises,
venture capital firms, and universities. Founded in 1999 by the Canadian
telecommunications industry, with financial support from the Government
of Quebec, the IIT is a not-for-profit organization comprising more than
70 member companies. Supported by the telecommunications industry
since its creation, the IIT concentrates on specialized industrial training
and technology services in telecommunications, and more generally, in the
field of information and communications technologies. In 2004, some IIT
members created a parallel research consortium called IIT-Research (IIT-R),
a key player in the revitalization of the industry.
Objectives for Participating in ITU Telecom World 2006
Since the IIT-R has developed two technologies in the field of telehealth,
namely an application in teletrauma and another in biomonitoring, its

Meriton Networks is the developer of Agile Optical Networking (AON), a
carrier-grade solution for service provider migration to next-generation
IP service architectures. A key pillar of AON is the integration of Ethernet
aggregation and switching with optical transport to enable Carrier Ethernet
Transport (CET). CET provides a highly scalable, resilient, end-to-end
solution that reduces CAPEX (by replacing Layer 2 Ethernet switches and
by reducing the number of Ethernet port interfaces), as well as OPEX (fewer
network elements to manage, and faster service activation), while providing
an innovative approach for handling the demands of Ethernet traffic.
With metro access, metro core and regional extension products — all
fully managed by automated network planning and management tools
— Meriton provides a breakthrough for CET.
Objectives for Participating in ITU Telecom World 2006
