GA Chamber November 2015 Newsletter Final - Greencastle
Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce November 2015 GREENCASTLE—ANTRIM MEMBER MOMENTS Board of Directors Cindy Marconci, President Susquehanna Bank Colin Swain M&T Bank Frank Traver, Vice President NEWS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DESK Whoosh…there goes another month. We had a great reaction to our Member Moments Newsletter in October so thanks for all the comments and suggestions. In my former life (I call it BCC-before Chamber of Commerce), I worked in a library. My days were filled with books and more specifically words. I love words (and books) and often measure my days and weeks and months by words. As I reflect over the past month, one word keeps coming up: honor. I promised you last month that our focus here at the Chamber was on bringing value to your membership and the activities and projects and events we hosted in October were designed to do that. We had a great breakfast at the Blue Heron Event Center and I want to thank Penn State Mont Alto—especially Helen McGarry for providing a thoughtful presentation on employee retention and continuing education. Our Heritage Christmas committee has been hard at work prepping for our best season ever! I hope you received your postcard inviting you to be part of this year’s celebration because it brings us right back to the word honor. This year we are honoring the men and women of our military with a patriotic tree lighting ceremony on November 20th at 7 PM. We are so lucky to be sponsored by The American Legion Post 373 and the V.F.W. Post 6319 for this event. The story of the tree is an interesting one. Ron and Judy Newell called the Chamber and offered us their tree. In speaking with Judy, she relayed that the tree she planted was 25 years old this year (coincidentally HC is celebrating 25 years this year!) She added that she wanted to donate the tree in honor of the military because of a close connection she had with our servicemen and women. A few days later, a representative from the American Legion came in looking for a way to be involved with the community and an idea was born! Please honor us with your presence on November 20th at 7 PM on the square in Greencastle as we pay tribute to the men and women of our military and remember how lucky we are to live and work and play in such a wonderful community.
