happy escape. Since Tom Carvel first dreamed of selling premium, fresh ice cream, our Guests have
turned to Carvel for help making both their little occasions and big celebrations. We represent a
break from their routines and a chance to reconnect. These moments of joy are why the Carvel

We enjoy brand recognition of more than 90 percent in our core markets. Our Guests show their love
and loyalty on social media sites. Our products constantly show up in new TV shows and movies.

THE INVESTMENT
The Carvel® brand is seeking highly motivated, experienced professionals with prior restaurant
and business experience to continue Carvel ice cream franchise development. It is important
that a Carvel franchisee:
• Possess restaurant management experience as an owner and/or operator
• Have enthusiasm for the Carvel brand
• Show passion about owning his or her own ice cream franchise business and creating lasting memories for his or her Guests
• Enjoy giving back to his or her community
The initial franchise fee to open one Full Carvel Shoppe is $30,000.
The initial franchise fee to open one Express Carvel Shoppe
(traditional or hosted) is $7,500. Additionally, potential franchisees
should possess cash liquidity of $120,000 and a net worth of
$400,000.
The total initial investment for a Full Shoppe, as stated
in Item 7 of the 2015 Carvel Corporation FDD,
ranges from $250,300 to $383,100.
The total initial investment for an Express Shoppe,
as stated in Item 7 of the 2015 Carvel Corporation FDD,
ranges from $37,000 to $120,900.
The total initial investment for an Express Shoppe in a host
facility, as stated in Item 7 of the 2015 Carvel Corporation FDD,
ranges from $30,540 to $54,865.
STEPS TO OWNERSHIP
Step 1 – Complete the Carvel Request for Consideration Form
We would like to understand a little bit about you, your experience and your plans for owning a
Carvel ice cream franchise. Click here to complete the form and download our Franchise Kit.
Step 2 – Complete an Introductory Call with a Carvel Prequalification Manager
We’ll talk to you about the general qualification requirements, both financial and operational, as well
as your territory of interest.
Step 3 – Complete an Introductory Call with a Carvel Sales Manager
Let’s talk. This is your first opportunity to ask your questions. We’ll talk to you about specific
qualification requirements and overview the process of coming to own a Carvel Full, Express or
Hosted Express ice cream franchise location.
Step 4 – Receive the Carvel Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) and Application
If you are interested in moving forward, we will provide you with our Franchise Disclosure Document
(FDD), which explains the Carvel ice cream franchise opportunity in detail and includes a copy of the
franchise agreement you’ll be signing. Don’t worry: Our sales director will go over it with you.
Step 5 – Submit Application for Approval and Complete Due Diligence
This is your chance to do all your research on the Carvel ice cream franchise. This includes
having discussions with current franchisees and members of the Carvel Executive Team
and beginning to create your business plan. Our approval committee will be reviewing your
application. Once you have been approved, your franchise agreement will be sent to you.
Step 6 – Sign Agreement and Be Welcomed into the Carvel Family
Hooray! Once you have signed your agreement, it has been received and countersigned in Atlanta,
and all fees have been paid, you are officially a Carvel franchisee. WELCOME TO CARVEL!
FAQ
Do I need previous restaurant or franchising experience to become a Carvel
franchisee?
Yes — both are preferred, and restaurant experience is required. However, if you are a great prospect
but do not have sufficient restaurant experience, we do offer an Internship Program, which is a
six-day, unpaid evaluation program in which you will get both restaurant and classroom training.
NOTE: This does not replace our ice cream franchise certification training program.
Is Carvel offering single- and multi-unit opportunities?
We are currently seeking qualified candidates to open both single- and multi-unit ice cream franchises.
What are the initial ice cream franchise and royalty fees?
Initial Franchise Fee: Full Shoppe: $30,000
Express Shoppe: $7,500
Hosted Express Shoppe: $7,500
Royalty Fee: Full and Express Shoppes pay $2.29 per liquid gallon of mix
purchased.
Hosted Express Shoppes make no continuing royalty
payment to Carvel, but must purchase Carvel Mix at our current
price for Hosted Express Shoppes. The mix price for Hosted Express
Shoppes is different than the mix price charged to Full and Express
Shoppes.
Contribution
Advertising FundFull and Express Shoppes pay $2.01 per liquid gallon of mix purchased.
There is no advertising fund contribution for
Hosted Express Shoppes.

What type of training will I receive as a new Carvel franchisee?
• The manager-in-training program is provided both in-classroom and in-shoppe for
Full and Express Shoppe franchisees.
• Full and Express Shoppes are equipped with access to e-learning and video modules to assist in ongoing training, along with crew training guides for both core menu items and promotional items.
• Ongoing training includes hourly employee training tools and promotion training guides.
• A franchise business consultant and representative(s) of the Carvel Training Department make regular visits to our shoppes.
Does Carvel offer financing?
No. We do not provide financing; however, we do have a relationship with a third party who can
assist you in obtaining the financing you need.
How soon can I expect my Carvel franchise to open?
Your first ice cream franchise (Full Shoppe) will generally open within 12 months of your signing
your franchise agreement. Express Shoppes can open within three months from the date the
franchise agreement is signed. If you have a real estate location already identified, these timelines
can be greatly reduced.
Where are Carvel ice cream shoppe franchises generally located?
Carvel Full Shoppes are generally located in strip centers, with the end-cap location being
preferred. Site criteria: 800—1,600 square feet with a 15-square-foot frontage.
The Carvel Express model is designed for flexibility to allow the sale of Carvel ice cream in mall,
shared-space and grab-and-go situations. Site criteria: at least 22.5 square feet with a
3-square-foot frontage.
Carvel Hosted Express locations are hosted within another brand’s location. Site criteria: 22.5
square feet with a 3-square-foot frontage.

Will I receive guidance on operations and marketing?
Yes. Every new Carvel franchise receives training, operations and marketing support.
