Owned by Mr. Charles Fipke, Perfect Soul represents the realization of
his goal: to breed, race, and stand a Grade I winner who has the pedigree
to become a great sire.
Being a successful geologist, nearly as famous for his deliberate analytical
nature as his huge discovery of diamonds in Canada’s Northwest Territory,
Fipke meticulously selected Perfect Soul’s dam, a daughter of Secretariat
named Ball Chairman. Preeminent sire-of-sires Storm Cat, A.P. Indy and
Gone West had already proven that having Secretariat as their broodmare
sire was a formula for success. He then bred Ball Chairman to one of the
world’s very best sire of sires –– Sadler’s Wells. The result –– Perfect Soul.
Perfect Soul went on to become the only Grade I winner by Sadler’s
Wells out of a Secretariat mare. Trained by Roger Attfield, Perfect Soul
proved himself to be a brilliant miler –– setting a new course record at
Keeneland by covering the distance in a blistering 1:33.54. Consider that
this is faster than any mile stakes race won by Artie Schiller, War Chant
or Cozzene. At left, Perfect Soul is shown setting the track record at
Keeneland en route to winning the Maker’s Mark Mile. Perfect Soul ended
his career as a Champion millionaire and Sadler’s Wells’ fastest miler.

Charles Fipke believes very strongly in Perfect Soul’s ability to become
an influential sire. These convictions have led him to breed at least 50 of
his own mares to Perfect Soul in each of his first three years at stud –– and
2008 will be no different. Among the outstanding group already committed
to his ‘08 book are the dams of Borrego, Peace Rules, Singletary and
Shakespeare. Also included are Bourbon Belle (MGSW, SP), Jersey Girl
(MGISW), Silence Beauty (1/2 to Sky Beauty) and Title Seeker (out of
Personal Ensign). Encouraged by his unwavering support, outside breeders
have also bred many of their own quality mares.
