This $28 million project was funded primarily through private funds, with the St. Charles Companies bearing 67% of the cost. The balance was paid for by CPV Maryland, LLC and the Charles County Government. Current and future residents of Charles County will benefit from: • Improved water and sewer service. A new 17.3 million gallon per day pump station will upgrade service to existing homes in Smallwood and Fairway Villages in St. Charles, as well as future communities and businesses within and adjacent to our master planned community. • An expanded commercial tax base. The project will facilitate the operation of the $750 million CPV St. Charles Energy in St. Charles' Piney Reach Business Park. • A cleaner Potomac River. A new pump house at the County’s Mattawoman Water Treatment Facility and a 14 mile reclaimed waterline will carry gray-water from the new pump house to the new power generating site. Water from this portion of the project will be used for cooling at the plant and will prevent 3-5 millions of gallon of gray-water a day from being discharged into the Potomac River.
