The Blue Flame’s seventh annual networking/fishing event on Mille Lacs Lake took place on Tuesday, June 7th. Twenty members and their guests hit the lake to see if they could net the winning fish! What a year – the walleyes were biting and it was exciting! The boats averaged 44 walleye per boat – a total of 220 walleyes were caught between the five boats!! A great fishing year to say the least! Due to DNR rules for Mille Lacs this year, it was Catch & Release for Walleyes but what fun reeling them in! Lots of action! This was our third year of having the event in early June and using both private guided boats and a launch to get members on the lake. Fifteen members and their guests used the individual guide boats to go out in teams of three with a private guide from Roach’s Guide Service to troll the waters for the elusive and prized Walleye! Mike Comstock Congratulations to Mike Comstock & Steve Norberg, both with Mulcahy Company - winners of the Longest Walleye on the boats! (photos) Mike and Steve tied with 26” walleyes and shared the prize donated by Mulcahy Company. If you’d prefer some shade, a bathroom and the ability to move around and network – the launch is a nice option! It provides a great opportunity to do fishing in a more “relaxed” style. Five members and their guests took advantage of the launch and had a great time visiting and catching fish! A pizza lunch was boated out to them – now that’s service with flair! Congratulations to Scott Tulgren with Minnesota Air – winner of the Longest Walleye on the launch! (photo) Scott caught a 26” walleye and won the prize donated by Minnesota Air. Steve Norberg All groups departed from Nitti's Hunter's Point Resort on the east side of Mille Lacs Lake in the morning and returned from the 6 hour fishing trip in the afternoon. Nitti’s provided a tasty ribs & chicken dinner that evening and the winning catches were announced! Special thanks to the following companies for making the fishing event a great time!: John J. Morgan Company for donating a Reznor Natural Gas Garage Heater as the Grand Prize! The winner was Tim Ekdahl with Minnesota Air! Ryan Company for being the Event Sponsor – they made it possible for us to have the minnow buckets of treats and some “extras” that make the event special. Thank you for your support! Nitti’s Hunter’s Point donated a gift certificate for a 6-person ice house, during the week, this winter – the winner was Barry Theilen with Ryan Company. No more “rain drops keep falling on my head”! The Blue Flame Lodge should have a new roof on it right after this year’s fair! The new roof was scheduled for Monday, August 8th but was delayed until after the State Fair due to the roofing company being delayed due to rain and hot weather. The new roof should take about 3-4 days to complete (weather permitting). The project date was pushed back by the contractor several times due to rain and then hot weather until we were no longer able to get it done before the State Fair. The Blue Flame Lodge at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds is located at 1311 Nelson St., next to the K102 booth and across from the Giant Slide. The Lodge has been around since 1968 helping to educate fairgoers on the benefits of natural gas, safety, conservation, and showcasing the latest and greatest of natural gas technologies and equipment. For the past few years, the Blue Flame Residential/State Fair Committee has been putting “band aids” on the leaks in the roof but this year, there were too many and the roof needed more than a few band aids! Currently, the Lodge has a flat rubber roof with roof drains that come inside the Lodge only to go out again. This causes problems in the cold winter months with freezing and cracking of the roof drains. The rubber roof is old and wearing out, requiring major attention. The old rubber roof will be removed and replaced with a mechanically attached PVC roof system utilizing rhinobond technology complete with the manufacturer’s recommended flashing for a 15-year warranty. The Blue Flame Residential Committee and Board worked hard to make the new roof happen this year yet. The selection of the contractor – Horizon Roofing – and securing of the necessary funds INTERESTED IN JOINING THE A S S O C I AT I O N ?
