Whether you are a seasoned Camden Fringe goer, or a newcomer who has stumbled across this brochure and is thinking “I didn’t know Camden had a Fringe”, we invite you in to have a look and are confident you will find at least one thing of interest within our programme of events. 1 in 3, 35 A Boy Named Cash, 27 A Clock Face Exhibition, 59 A Day in the Life of Boab Coyle, 5 A Day In The Lives Of Frankie Abbott, 58 A Digital Legacy, 11 A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 6 A Showcase of Talent by Shaun Shears and Ebony Rose Dark, 44 2016 marks the 11th year of the Camden Fringe. Can you believe it? Our little baby is now 11 and ready to go to big school and have its head flushed down the toilet. We definitely feel like one of the big kids now, but are still intimidated by the likes of Edinburgh, Brighton and Buxton Fringes who lurk around the back of the gym smoking and looking like real grown-ups. Since we started there have been a proliferation of new Fringe festivals springing up across the UK and across London. If you are interested in this sort of thing do also seek out the following in the capital: • Illuminate Festival, Wimbledon (May) • Wandsworth Fringe (May) • East London Fringe Festival (July) • Phoenix Fringe (Aug - cheeky) • Clapham Fringe (Oct/Nov) • London Horror Festival (Oct) • Lewisham Fringe Festival (Nov) (Don’t be confused by the Edmonton and London Fringes, both of these are in Canada, although if you do find yourself in the area...) Thanks for your interest and support. Now stop reading this bit and get looking at the wonderful entertainment on offer! A Working Title, 11 Best wishes, Clits ‘n’ Glamour, 15 Michelle and Zena A small tribute to David Bowie who did so much to push the boundaries of creativity and performance. Families feud with families, theatre individuals taunt and spew accusations and insults at each other, sticks and swords are drawn at the drop of a hat and the atmosphere of Verona — or London or any city in our troubled world — you can cut with a knife. You give us the location and we do the rest. Accompanied by a chilling sound track we plunge the stage into darkness and show the final moments of a group of unfortunates. Whether it’s a zombie infestation in a bowling alley or a chilling snow base experiment, Doom is coming. Perform and Give Perform and Give Presents: Nuns Nuns, cigarettes, crochet, videotape and blackmail. What could go wrong? Nuns is a satirical comedy exploring the role of 3 nuns wanting to revolutionise the church. Initially fighting for smoking rights, their ambitions heighten when they acquire a saucy videotape. With an all female cast, Robert Luxford’s play makes it’s UK premiere. Aequitas Theatre Company What’s Your Issue? Aequitas presents a comedic play about society’s obsession with the ideal body. When new model Liss’s latest pictures are photoshopped out of control, she struggles with her self-perception. The unreal photo also plays havoc with Karina, who uses it to define her real beauty standards. Upon meeting, both women must reconcile the image with reality. Peppered Wit Productions Blink by Phil Porter Unconventional, quirky and voyeuristic, this funny, delicate love story cleverly weaves themes of loneliness, bereavement and consensual stalking (!) into the intimate and engaging story of Jonah, Sophie, and a fox called Scruffilitis. The darker the events the blacker the comedy. Sharon, in particular, seems somewhat worn out by it all, but Loz refuses to let her fall into despair. Late one night, a mysterious intruder changes everything. Mercy Road calls on the author’s 16 years of working in the field of drug addiction and sex work in Camden to conjure an unflinching story of resilience in the face of adversity. NOTE: Mercy Road contains adult themes and strong language. £10 Get Over It Productions The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare This year all-female troupe Get Over It Productions are celebrating ten years at the Camden Fringe. Three playwrights had the task to write a 20 minute play each on the subject of being trapped. There is no bad seat in the house as the 360 degree action happens around you producing a true fly on the wall experience. ”Inverting the idea of theatre-in-the-round, pioneering theatre company Doughnut Productions has hit upon the idea of having the audience in the centre of the performance space on swivel chairs, while the action takes place on the periphery of all four walls and exits... this technique is no gimmick as it enables the audience to be completely immersed in the story telling.” Michael Davis Female Arts £14 Improvable Hen and Chickens A very physical and silly take on the improv genre. We’ve composed our own roster of original games, which we play with reckless abandon. It’s a bit like Whose Line Is It Anyway? but higher energy and sillier.
