The Very Best In
Neurosurgical Care,
Close to you.
Neurosurgery is the most delicate form of surgery.
It takes unique individuals with diverse skills
and expert surgeons for patients who require
neurosurgical care. (A steady hand helps, too.)
Our trio of highly-skilled neurosurgeons are experts in
neurovascular surgery, epilepsy surgery, spinal surgery,
management of chronic pain conditions, deep brain stimulation
and other neurosurgical specialties and sub-specialties.
They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a
year to respond to both traumatic and medical neurosurgical
emergencies.
If you’d like to know more about the Fremont-Rideout
Neurosurgery Center services and this outstanding group of
physicians, call us at (530) 749-6610 or visit us online at

ON THE COVER:
Jasbir Kang, MD and Muhammad Alghannam, MD both
received Guardian Angel pins and designations from patients
who appreciated their professional attention. These two
physicians made a difference by providing excellent care at
Fremont-Rideout Health Group. Thanks was expressed to them
in one of the most meaningful ways possible ... by making a
gift to the hospital as part of the Fremont-Rideout Foundation
Guardian Angel Program. This program enables patients or
family members to say thank you and to honor the doctor, nurse,
team member, or volunteer who made their experience a positive
one. The process is very simple. All you need to do is fill out
the Guardian Angel form online at www.frhg.org or by using
the envelope enclosed. You Guardian will be notified you are
honoring them and will receive a custom-crafted lapel pin to
wear proudly throughout the hospital.
Our Mission
The Fremont-Rideout Foundation is a non-profit
organization dedicated to making our communities a healthier
place to live. Its purpose is to provide financial support and
promote goodwill for the Fremont-Rideout Health Group.
When You Give
This Doctors’ Day, Honor Your
Favorite Physician and Support
the Foundation Too!
This year pay tribute to your favorite physician by making
a donation to the Foundation Guardian Angel Program.
When you make a donation through this program, you
can help the hospital recognize and continue nurturing
your caregivers’ wonderful spirit of compassion while also
providing extra resources for improved technologies and
services. When a donation is made,
your special caregiver will receive an acknowledgement
letter and a specially crafted lapel pin.
To honor your favorite Doctor, a Guardian Angel donation
envelope has been included in this publication (center).
For additional information call the Foundation office at
530 751-4070 or email [email protected].
When you give to the hospital Foundation, 100% of your gift
helps provide funds for health care programs, new equipment,
renovations and scholarships that make an immediate and
lasting difference in the quality of health care delivered.

A Message From
Our C1 hair
that you were able to
enjoy some quality time
with loved ones.
Maureen Bumgarner
Foundation Chair
Dear Friends of the
Foundation
I hope your holidays
with family and friends
were pleasurable and
memorable ones and
As a member of the
Foundation board, I hear
the word “fundraising”
very often, mainly in
terms of dollars raised,
percentages reached,
market share achieved,
number of programs,
involved volunteers, etc.
I was recently reminded
that success can be
achieved that is not
measurable on paper or
necessarily in numbers,
but in the great sense
of accomplishment that
can be realized through
volunteering and making a
difference.
The Fremont-Rideout
Foundation has a great
tradition of volunteerism
with over a century of
growth and support of
our community hospitals
driven by the efforts of
untold volunteers.
It is our donors who
provide the resources that
our volunteers leverage
to produce successes
that go well beyond the
measurable dollars and
data directly to a better
today. We work hard
in the Foundation to
assure we get maximum
leverage for our donors’
investments in all
healthcare programs and
services we support.
If you aren’t already a
contributor, please join us
in providing resources. If
you are already a donor,
thank you, and please
consider increasing
your contribution. For
everyone, contributing to
the Foundation is a great
way to feel some of that
non-measurable success
we enjoy – right here in
our community.
Sincerely,
Maureen Bumgarner
Physicians Who Give
Dr. Robert and Debbie Plass and Dr. Venu and Sabita Kondle Are
Changing Lives Through A Legacy of Hope
Every year, the Fremont-Rideout Foundation receives contributions from its donors that provide support for
existing programs and services affiliated with the Fremont-Rideout Health Group that would not otherwise be
available. The Fremont-Rideout Foundation Bequest Society was formed to recognize donors that leave a gift to
the Fremont-Rideout Foundation in their Will, Trust or other type of planned gift today, guaranteeing the work
of the Foundation will continue for decades to come.
Dr. Robert and Debbie Plass and Dr. Venu and Sabita Kondle were honored as Bequest Society members
at our Evening of Appreciation Dinner last November.
“We believe our gift of financial support will fund the next generation of medical excellence at FremontRideout Health Group and greatly benefit our patients and their families,” said Dr. Robert Plass, FRHG Medical
Director. “We’re proud of the services that FRHG has continuously provided to our region for more than 100
years. And, because of this dedication, we are pleased to contribute this gift and support. The Plass family gift
is in the form of a Living Trust and is designated to Rideout Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Venu Kondle (photo page 2) said, “Being a part of the community is important to us. The Foundation is
important to patients, by bringing quality healthcare here to our communities.” The Kondle family gift is in
the form of an Individual Retirement Account to the Foundation.
“The gifts made by these physicians are an important investment in guaranteeing that Fremont-Rideout
Health Group continues to offer compassionate and superior healthcare to everyone in our community,
regardless of their ability to pay,” Carol Ramirez, VP Foundation, said. “They join 23 additional donors who
also share this commitment.”
You can help too! By making a planned gift, you can ensure that the FRHG continues its mission of providing
exceptional patient care today and in the future. A bequest is a popular way to make a significant gift without
depleting your current assets. Donors who make a planned gift or bequest are invited to join the Bequest
Society. For more information please call us at 530 751-4070.

WINTER 2010 | INSIDE Your Foundation
The Fremont-Rideout Foundation is
pleased to welcome three new members
to its Board of Directors: David Vaughn,
Recology, Yuba-Sutter General Manager,
Kathleen Hansen, Sutter County
Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Susan
Lott, Radiologist, Sutter Buttes Imaging.
“These individuals bring a great
deal of experience to the board. We
appreciate their commitment, ideas and
their enthusiasm as we work to create
new opportunities for the Foundation,
Fremont-Rideout Health Group, and its
supporters,” said Carol Ramirez, VP of
the Fremont-Rideout Foundation
The Fremont-Rideout Foundation
was formed in 1983 to raise awareness,
and manage and distribute funds in
support of the Fremont-Rideout Health
Group and programs at the health group.

The Fremont and Rideout Auxiliaries gifted a total of
$47,000 recently to the Fremont Medical Center and
Rideout Memorial Hospital
For more than 50 years, the Fremont and Rideout Auxiliaries
have been an important part of both hospitals. Auxiliary members
have donated thousands of hours of their time, talent and
resources and have raised thousands of dollars to ensure that the
health group continues to serve tens of thousands of people every
year.
“We are so grateful to our auxiliaries. They are vital to our
healthcare system. Whether they are helping patients and families
in our hospital, or supplying funds to continue an important
patient program.” said Carol Ramirez, VP Foundation, Community
Relations.
“Raising funds, even for non profit hospitals is not easy in this
time of economic turmoil, but our Auxiliaries have raised enough
to make a real difference this year!” said Ramirez. “On behalf of
the entire Fremont-Rideout Health Group community, we
thank them!”

Proceeds from our Annual Campaign
Will REALLY Save Lives!
Proceeds from our 2010 Fairway to Health fundraiser and our Annual Campaign will enable the Foundation to
continue supporting the mission of the Fremont-Rideout Health Group: To provide compassionate and superior
healthcare to everyone in our community and region. Specifically, Fremont-Rideout is partnering with our local
Emergency Medical Services to develop a state-of-the-art STEMI (heart attack) Receiving Program. The program will
require the purchase of 12 wireless EKG Monitors for local area ambulances. The wireless EKG Monitors will allow local
ambulances to communicate a heart attack patient’s critical data, in real time, while in route to Rideout Hospital.
Every minute saved in getting treatment started is actual heart muscle saved
Currently the local pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) does not have a means to communicate and
transmit EKG’s from the field to Rideout Emergency so that they can be interpreted by our physicians. This delay in
early diagnosis adds additional time to life saving treatments that could possibly stop a heart attack and save a life.
Solutions
1. FRHG and our local EMS are partnering to develop a designated Heart Attack Receiving Program.
2. FRHG will assist the local EMS provider with the purchase of new equipment & defibrillators that have the ability
to transmit EKG’s to the Rideout Emergency Department for early diagnosis of heart attack. There are 12 local
ambulances needing remote EKG Devices. The cost for each device is $25,000.
3. We will develop a collaborative between EMS and FRHG that will facilitate identification, notification and rapid
therapies to increase blood flow to the heart, such as opening the coronary artery with a balloon or stent and blood
clot dissolving drugs, to decrease and/or stop the damage to the patient’s heart.
Outcomes
Mortality is decreased and patient lives are saved. State of the art cardiac care remains in our community, close to home.
Here’s how you can help make the cures of tomorrow happen today
Your Gift will help us purchase this state-of-the-art, life saving technology. By working together we will transform the
future of health care for the 21st century. Please call the Fremont-Rideout Foundation at 530 751-4070 to learn more.
You can help immediately. To make a secure online donation visit www.frhg.org.

Upgrades and Improvements at Rideout Memorial Hospital
Fremont-Rideout Health Group (FRHG) is nearing
completion of three critical improvement projects at
Rideout Memorial Hospital (RMH). The projects include
updating, expanding, and renovating two of the hospital’s
six operating rooms, enlarging and redesigning the
laboratory, and extending and renovating the pharmacy.
A team of physicians, surgeons, and cardiologists from
FRHG visited two leading hospitals in Washington to
examine new operating room technologies and equipment
before submitting their recommendations. In addition,
dozens of outside contractors and vendors contributed to
the three projects.
Endosuites three and four have been outfitted with new
surgical lights and other equipment, including flat panel
video monitors, anesthesia terminals, and surgical tables.
These improvements will make the operating rooms more
efficient and comfortable to work in. At the same time,
the state-of-the-art lights and the modular design of the
surgical tables will improve equipment flexibility and
functionality. (Photo top left)
The two surgical theaters were also remodeled to improve
efficiency and meet current infection control requirements
to ensure a sterile and safe environment for patients and
staff. The renovations, which totaled more than $1 million,
were completed in Dec. 2009.
The laboratory upgrade encompasses new equipment
and a revamped layout that enhances the processing
capacity and efficiency of lab operations. A significant
portion of the multi-phase project brings the facility
into compliance with current fire and life safety codes
and infection control regulations. Construction was
completed in January, 2010. (Photo top right).
Alterations to the pharmacy enlarged it by
approximately 150 square feet, to a total of 1,800
square feet, improving work-flow and organization.
The remodel also included the addition of an updated
sterile compounding and clean room to better protect
both patients and staff when handling pharmaceutical
products. (Photo top center).
Maintaining and upgrading facilities and equipment
is essential to the provision of high-quality health care
to the community. These state-of-the-art equipment
upgrades and remodeling improvements to the operating
rooms, laboratory, and pharmacy at Rideout Memorial
Hospital give surgeons and medical professionals
the latest and greatest tools to work with. These
enhancements allow them to do their best work in a
more comfortable work environment.
Thank you donors and friends of the Fremont-Rideout
Foundation for helping us help Rideout Memorial
Hospital in these important efforts to assure better
health care services for patients of the FRHG.

Making
a difference
Sharing
your vision
Leaving
your legacy
These are more than just noble thoughts. To the Yuba-Sutter
communities, they are noble deeds that can have far-reaching
effects in the quality of health care available to us all, and
close to home.
Giving
let us count the ways:
Giving through your will • Giving through living trusts • Giving through life insurance
Giving through stock options • Giving through retirement plans
Cash donations and Pledges – In honor or memory, event sponsorships or campaigns
Gifts may be either designated to a favorite hospital
program or service or given to the “area of greatest need.”
Donors may specify whether they want their gifts to be used
immediately or placed in an endowment for
later use.
All of these mentioned can be ways to make meaningful
gifts to a charitable organization, such as the FremontRideout Foundation, while you include an enduring tribute
to a family member or other loved one. There may be no
better way to pay tribute to someone than through a gift with
lasting meaning.
This is your opportunity to make a difference. A charitable
gift to the Foundation is an investment in your communities.
