The boys are muscling in – those girls have been
sexy b oy s The boys are muscling in – those girls have been hogging these pages for way too long. Ian Price shows how the guys can work it. w e all have our favorite fashion girls, but we thought it was time for the boys to get a look in. Too often these handsome hunks just serve as arm-candy for our top models – so we’re giving them some space of their own for a change. They certainly rose to the challenge – none of these guys had worries about getting naked for the sake of their art. So we proudly present a selection of men dolls of many sizes and various vintages. What a nice surprise to see how gorgeous they can look with (often) minimal props and wearing just the hint of a smile. Why not get your guys ready for action, too? Let’s show the girls how to do it for the camera. Some of the most dramatic shots we show are the simplest – you just need a length of fabric, a mirror, or a plain paper backdrop. We hope these pages inspire you to try out some pictures for yourself. There’s plenty of material out there; whether it’s a Dolce&Gabbana shoot featuring top model David Gandy, the glammed-up super-realism of the French photographers Pierre et Gilles, or just someone you saw on the bus – go on give it a whirl! Tonner’s Green Lantern as you’ve never seen him before (opposite), quite the sultry Narcissus; this page top to bottom: Iplehouse’s new Elder Doll, Akando; Fashion Royalty’s Takeo Mizutani; a blond vintage Action Man, by the Palitoy Company, UK, strikes a Christine Keeler pose on a one-sixth scale Arne Jacobsen chair. He’s wearing a Tom of Finland leather jacket, but he really doesn’t have to try very hard. Just add a graffitiwall backdrop for that sexy streetwise vibe. Why should Marilyn have all the satin sheet fun? Integrity Toy’s Takeo Mizutani, has been made over by the talented artist Baris, with piercing repainted hazel eyes and a faux fur wig. He may have bed hair, but this guy doesn’t look like he’s ready for sleep just yet. Maybe he’ll meet our merman (this poge): Akando is a one-third scale ball-jointed doll (BJD) from Iplehouse’s Elder range. This towering giant is 70cm (about 28 inches) tall. Akando is from the collection of Baris, who kindly lent some of his collection for this shoot. HAUTEDOLL/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2009 HAUTEDOLL/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2009 54 55 A new depature for DAE Originals, their dolls never looked like this before, and leather was never so daring. “Black and White Leather Ball™” is from the exciting Metamorphasis™ line, a new, non-vintage range. Images are from the private collection of D.A.E. originals, and are reproduced here by kind permission of Brian Schafer and David Escobedo. It looks like Pierre de Vries has got himself a new room-mate – Carlos from Totem (as before). We expect the guys are getting ready for a costume ball on campus. They’ve bagged Fashion Royalty Snow Wigs from the Modern Pompadour Collection. The dark backgound highlights the luminous quality of the doll’s resin body. But we’re guessing that this hunk ain’t no saint!
