Welcome to the 2014 Delaware Equine Industry Directory.
Welcome to the 2014 Delaware Equine Industry Directory. The Delaware Equine Council’s mission is to promote, protect and enhance the keeping of equines. As an all volunteer organization, we continue to work on behalf of all breeds, disciplines, interests, schools and related businesses to promote the industry. We do not compete with other equine groups, stables or businesses. As a member of the American Horse Council, we will continue to provide you with updates on the latest equine industry related legislature and any other activities that may impact us. One of the major annual accomplishments of the Delaware Equine Council is the awarding of $1,000 scholarships. An application is included in this Directory. You are welcome to encourage any potential candidates to apply. The publication of this Directory has been recognized as the single source of reference for all equine activities and businesses in this region. Please use and share it with all! Sincerely, Stan Vonasek President, Delaware Equine Council 1 November 6, 2013 Dear Delaware Equine Enthusiasts: Delaware’s equine industry is a critical component of our state’s agricultural economy while generating positive environmental impacts. The industry creates jobs, attracts tourism dollars and generates the need for a wide array of goods and services. All aspects of our horse industry, from racing to pleasure horses and everything in between are definitely an economic engine. Your horse industry preserves farms and maintains open space, which provide environmental benefits such as ground water re-charge and wildlife habitat. It also helps prevents urban sprawl from encroaching on our country side. These benefits are perhaps hard to document, but they are very real. A special aspect of Delaware’s equine industry is the commitment to the next generation. Go to any horse show, a trail riding event, or at a racing stable and you’ll see today’s youth engaged and learning. The lessons of reliability, accountability go along with what our youth learns about good horsemanship. Indeed, life lessons spring up from the industry every day. What a great legacy your industry leaves for the next generation. I want to thank the Delaware Equine Council for all it does on behalf of the industry and the good it does for so many Delawareans. To everyone involved in Delaware’s Equine Industry, congratulations on a job well done and thank you. Sincerely, Ed Kee 2 2014 Delaware Equine Council Officers President...... Stan Vonasek...... Simply bring your used horse magazines to a drop off area listed below or contact Carol Seiler at 443-466-5043. Volunteers will discard old labels and replace them with new ones that read “Compliments of Delaware Equine Council”, www.delawareequinecouncil.org. Volunteers then distribute these magazines to hospitals, professional offices and public and school libraries. What a great way to help share our love and knowledge of horses with others than to offer them free literature to enjoy. We are always grateful for your assistance in making this program a reality. Call SPCA. Call horse rescues. Contact everyone in the vicinity, go door to door. Contact local horse organizations and ask for assistance. Use internet with emails and websites, i.e. delawareequinecouncil.org Call radio and stations and ask for support. Contact local feed stores and tack shops, etc. Distribute flyers. FINDING YOUR HORSE IS THE FIRST PROBLEM • • Identifying your horse may be a second problem......be proactive. Have recent photos, know distinguishing marks and habits, have copies of papers i.e. coggins and health certificates with you. Talk with your vet about microchips or other forms of identification for your horses. Try to be familiar with the area where you are riding, or at least have someone with you who knows the area. 69 70 Notes 71 Notes 72
