2011 Reunion Synopsis Meet the New Reunion Secretary The Reunion, held on August 5, 6, and 7, 2011, was very successful. Hello, Shipmates. My name is Roy Lammey, Jr. I was on the U.S.S. Des Moines during the years 1957 through 1960, have been a member of the U.S.S. Des Moines Reunion Association for many years, and have attended each Reunion. This year I was elected as your USS Des Moines Reunion Association Secretary. I take this position with honor and hope to serve you all well. Prior to the Reunion Business Meeting the Seagoing Marines of the U.S.S. Des Moines presented the Colors; they Pledged Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America; and the Star Spangled Banner was played followed by a rifle salute. At the Reunion, a raffle was held for a cement statue of a sailor saluting. To this end, I present to you the current Officers for the USS Des Moines Reunion Association, together with the contact information for each: New Officers were elected as listed above and will serve until the next Reunion on August 3, 4, and 5, 2012. A salute to you all, Roy Roy Lammey, Jr., Secretary USS Des Moines Reunion Association Meet Reunion Vice President Jim Chapman Jim enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 25, 1956 and served aboard the USS Salem CA-139 until 1958 when he transferred to the USS DesMoines CA-134. Jim remained aboard the Daisy May until August, 1959, and continued in active service to his country until 1978. $$$ Association Dues $$$ Reunion 2012 Reunion 2012 Yearly Association dues may be paid at any time. Dues are $20 per year and can be mailed to Art Weeks, Jr. at 5 Karen Street, Portsmouth, RI 02871. Mark your calendars! Reunion 2012 will be held on August 3, 4, and 5, 2012 in Mercer, PA. The cost to attend Reunion 2012 will be the same as Reunion 2011: $195 per couple; $140 per single. As always, Association dues ($20) must be paid before or at the time of attendance. More about Reunion 2012 will be forthcoming in the Spring Association Newsletter. Keep an eye out for it!
