Johnson Wronged Wong
During the past year, I have
attempted to present issues of
importance to Glendora residents in a clear, concise manner. I have injected my opinions
only where I thought it appropriate.
Recently, allegations were
made against a city employee,
during the public comment period of a City Council meeting.
Because the allegations were
accompanied by an announcement that the accuser was going to run for City Council, the
story has political overtones.
Because of this, I am reporting the following facts without
personal comment, because I
believe the story is important for
you to know.
Jeff Johnson announced his
candidacy for City Council during Public Comment at the November 28th City Council Meeting last year.
During that announcement he
made public allegations of improprieties on the part of Planning
Director Stan Wong.
The final report of the resulting investigation of City Council
Candidate Jeff Johnson’s allegations of wrongdoing was received in City Hall last Friday.
The report finds no basis for
Mr. Johnson’s charges.
This investigation was requested almost two months ago,
after the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office declined to
investigate, stating there was no
evidence that any criminal activity had occurred.
In a letter to the city, David
Demergian, Head of the Public
Integrity Division, indicated that
if Mr. Johnson would come forward with any credible evidence
that any laws had been broken,
his division would investigate.
According to the DA’s office,
Mr. Johnson, to this date, has not
provided the requested evidence.
Mr. Wong, a 30 year employee
of the City, with an impeccable
reputation, wondered at the
council meeting how he could
restore his good name!
He demanded an independent
investigation to publicly examine
the charges rather than have Mr.
Johnson’s allegations go unchallenged.
The City Council, anxious to
have the matter resolved, regardless of the results, unanimously
ordered the City Manager to engage an independent investigative
firm to get to the bottom of the
charges.
The Law Firm of Manning &
Marder was hired, at a cost of
$20,000, to conduct the investigation. They are one of the largest law firms in the state and have
an investigative expertise because of their work with law enforcement agencies throughout
the State of California.
Their Police Civil Liability
Practice employs experienced
investigators, as well as attorneys, to provide reliable and thorough results when independent
fact finding is needed.
This investigation was conducted by Darrell M. McGehee,
a retired Police Captain with over
32 years of law enforcement
experience and investigative expertise.
During the course of his investigation, eighteen witnesses
were interviewed, including Mr.
Johnson and Mr. Wong.
All interviews were recorded
and summaries were prepared of
the interviews.
Those summaries and recordings are included in the report.
The report itself stands about
four inches thick and is remarkably thorough.

Investigative Summary is only
seven pages however and
contains the following key
statement:
“…During the interviews with
involved parties who have
information concerning the
specific allegation(s) no
information or evidence was
obtained that would support
the allegations by Johnson.”
(Emphasis added)
Mr. Johnson made a total of
nine allegations against Mr.
Wong. Not one of them was supported by any evidence, according to the report.
Terms such as “Johnson believes…”; “He assumes…”;
“Johnson also alleges that Wong
possibly…” are sprinkled frequently throughout the discussion of the allegations.
Several of the allegations involve Johnson’s interpretation of
the manner in which the City is
handling a possible code violation by a local developer.
Mr. Johnson assumes that
because the City has not yet
taken action, or the item has not
been brought to the planning
commission, that nothing is happening and Mr. Wong is to
blame.
The fact is that the City Council is fully aware of the status of
this situation and cannot discuss
it because of potential litigation.
Johnson also makes two allegations that Wong inappropriately “gave variances” to personal friends for unpermitted
construction activity.

makes clear that it was Mr. Wong
who brought the improprieties to
the attention of the City and

Clifford Again Uses Police
To Get Back At Citizens

Last Monday night Glendora
Councilman Gary Clifford was
watching his and Council members Tessitor’s and Herman’s
political signs which they had
placed illegally on City property
and streets. These signs interfered with the traffic warning
signs advising motorists that the
road going east from Lone Hill
on Foothill narrows. Two teenage girls saw the illegally placed
signs and put a sticker on them
stating they violated Glendora’s
City ordinance. They did not remove or damage the signs.
The girls knew many calls had
been made to the Glendora Police advising officers of the illegal signs. The Police officers
refused to do anything because
the Chief of Police of Glendora
deliberately refused to enforce
the sign Ordinance against the
incumbents’ signs even though
the incumbents’ signs violated the
Ordinance and the Chief knew
it. (Glendora Police have endorsed Clifford, Tessitor and
Herman for reelection)
Clifford willfully violated the
very city ordinance he voted to
approve. It prohibits putting political signs on public property,
roads, medians, right of ways
and Utility poles. Clifford had his
signs nailed on telephone poles;
put in road medians, on freeway
onramps and fences at Oakdale
Cemetery.
After talking to the girls and
their pointing out to him that the
signs violated Glendora’s Ordinance, Clifford got mad. The
young girls left and drove towards their home.
Clifford called the Glendora
Police Department, got four police cars and a Sergeant and
stopped the girls’ car. Clifford
was riding in one of the Police
cars. He arrested the teenage girls
by way of a citizens’ arrest. The
young girls were handcuffed,
taken to jail, searched, booked,
and kept in jail until the next day.
The Police officers, after seeing the illegal signs in the streets
and Clifford admitting they were
his Tessitor’s and Herman’s did
nothing to Clifford. The Officers removed the signs that night.
The next morning Clifford,
Herman and Tessitor put their
signs up again at this same location The City Manager was told
of this. Three days later the City
Manager personally took the
signs down. The next day
Clifford and Herman put them
back up. The Police Department
has done nothing to Clifford,
Tessitor or Herman about these
violations. However, the girls
were ordered to appear in Court
on April 20th.
Previously, Councilman
Clifford called Police and code
enforcement officers on a senior
citizen for squirting a dried paintbrush with a hose on Memorial
Day. The citizen was arrested and
released in the field on a citation
to appear. Code enforcement
gathered water from the sewer,
had it analyzed and found there
was no paint or illegal substance
in the water. In spite of this
Clifford had four criminal
charges filed against the citizen
for which he could have gotten
two years in jail.
After six months in Court, the
senior asked for a Jury trial.
Clifford then had the criminal
charges dropped and the City
Attorney filed one infraction
which only carries a maximum
penalty of a fifty dollar fine. The
City Attorney offered to let the
senior citizen plead no contest
(which does not admit guilt) to
the infraction with no fine or
penalties. Rather than have an
expensive two week Trial the
senior citizen accepted.
This senior citizen was the
Husband of one of the organizers of a citizens group that had
gathered 4,729 signatures to stop
a tall commercial building from
being built in their single story
home neighborhood. Clifford
was angry about this because he
sided with the developer and took
his anger out on the senior citizen.
Senator Margett Introduces
Hybrid Vehicle Tax Incentive
SACRAMENTO – Senator
Bob Margett (R-Glendora) introduced legislation today designed
to promote the sale and lease of
new hybrid vehicles in California.
Senate Bill 308 will provide
consumers who purchase or
lease a 2007 or newer hybrid
vehicle with a $3,000 income tax
deduction designed to help offset the cost difference between
a hybrid and gas-only vehicle. On
average, a hybrid vehicle costs
between $2,500 and $3,000
more than a similarly equipped
gas-only vehicle.
Currently, California lacks incentives encouraging the purchase or lease of new hybrid
caused the items to be corrected.
After each of the nine allegations and a discussion of the information from witnesses, the
following statement appears:

vehicles. The most popular incentive, which allowed drivers of
highly efficient hybrids to apply
for a permit to drive solo in the
carpool lane, ended recently after the maximum number of permits allowed under law had been
reached.
“Unlike the federal government and other states throughout the nation, California offers
no incentive to purchase fuel efficient and environmentally
friendly hybrids. There are no
financial incentives designed to
help offset the higher purchase
price of hybrids,” said Senator
Margett. “SB 308 will remove the
issue of price out of the equation when the average California
family tries to decide between a
hybrid or gas-only vehicle.”
SB 308 is designed to mirror
the federal hybrid tax credit
passed in 2005. In order to
qualify for the tax deduction, the
hybrid vehicle must meet the
definition of a hybrid vehicle as
defined by the Internal Revenue
code. However, unlike the federal tax credit, SB 308 applies a
fixed amount across the board
rather than a variable rate depending on the vehicle. Additionally, the tax deduction will sunset in 2011 when the federal tax
credit is slated to expire.
SB 308 is expected to be referred to the Senate Revenue and
Taxation Committee.

It’s Election Time Again
F
or many cities
throughout the Valley, it is time to fill
those ballot boxes,
as it is election
time again..
For the few of you who go
out of your way to vote, I thank
you.
For those of you who can
vote, and didn’t for some reason, well, what can I say?
Maybe you can remember all
those soldiers over the years who
have given their lives for your
right to vote.
You have a voice, hopefully
you will reconsider and make the
effort to be heard.
I have paid attention to Azusa
and Covina this time around. I
know, or I am acquainted with
many of the candidates.
Some of you may not agree
with me, but you have a lot of
good people who are willing to
serve your community.
However, there are a few who
appear to be running for some
other agenda, maybe just selfserving.
I think there are some good
choices out there to vote for.
I thank all those good candidates who have put themselves
out there to offer themselves to
the community.
I am of the opinion, it would
be great if we had seven-seat
councils where we now have
five-seat councils.
There are a lot of good candidates out there who could
serve and we could tap into
these folks if there were more
seats available.
I guess many of you would
like to know who I would endorse.
That is easy, I will endorse
any and all candidates who will
serve us well with honesty and
integrity.
I will not name them, because
you should know who they are.
However, I will predict who will
win. The winners will be those
who get the most votes.
At least that is the way it is
supposed to work.
Seriously, there are too many
to try and start picking.
For those who I would endorse, well, there just are not
enough seats available.

Covina City Council because I
have a strong sense of Community and love for Covina.
I believe that the City has the
best City Council it has had in
decades and I wanted to be a part
of that team of hardworking individuals.
The Covina City Council is a
group of individuals with tremendous integrity, honesty, and like
myself, are not politicians who
desire to use their position as a
stepping-stone for higher office.
Like me, they all just want
what is best for Covina.
However, I now believe that
wonderful team of individuals
might be broken-up by candidates who do not share the same
values and integrity as I.

shares the same values and vision as I, and is not using her

Campaign for City Council
I believe we have been here
before: nasty flyers, nasty accusations and innuendos, my goodness where does it end?
On the evening of February
19, 2007 the daughter of former
Councilman Sonny Marshall and
a friend, I believe her last name
was Giammalva, were arrested
after being caught defacing and
vandalizing the signs of the incumbents Ken Herman, Gary
Clifford, and Doug Tessitor.
Such a shame!
I am writing to tell this com-
munity that none of our supporters have stooped to this level.
I am also urging our supporters to continue to not to engage
in such juvenile tactics.
We are above this!
Leave their signs alone, THEY
speak for themselves!

crowded, dense, and low-quality housing project that Chagnon
aggressively supported, Rocha
opposed and voters rejected it in
a landslide margin. It was also
Rocha who led us to the strikingly better second (current)
Rosedale, when Rocha, in opposition to Chagnon, withheld his
support until the density was
lowered from over 1500 down
to 1250 homes. Rocha's standards for development are clearly
higher, and his courage to stand
up to developers in favor of residents is unmistakable.
There are leaders who fight
for their constituents to be in
control
of
their
own
community's destiny, and only
seek to better our quality of life
and earn our trust and respect.
On the other hand, there are also
politicians who act at the behest
of corporate special interests,
sometimes with the perks of personal, financial benefit waiting
around the corner.
The differences between our
two mayoral candidates are clear
- and we need to vote for which
leadership will take Azusa in the
right direction, not to choose by
default.
We need a mayor who sees
not north/south or old/new, but
one Azusa. We need a true leader
who we know we can trust to
place our best interests first. We
need a mayor with the balance
of wisdom, integrity, and heart and that leader is Joe Rocha.
Azusa, I hope you will join me
Tuesday, March 6, in electing Joe
Rocha as our new mayor.

Differences Between
Candidates Are Clear
The strategy of Diane
Chagnon's campaign for Azusa
mayor is certainly unusual. Her
suggestion is - since her more
worthy opponent, Mayor Protem Joe Rocha, would remain on
the council - that we as voters
merely choose Chagnon by default. Even more suspiciously,
Chagnon has continually likened
herself to Rocha, when nothing
could be further from the truth.
Azusa is knee-deep in development, and that requires a
leader who doesn't make sacrifices to our quality of life. Unfortunately, Chagnon has such a
record. Take the current Downtown North project - where she
has conceded to building condos
on our City Hall park, as well as
closing off both Dalton and
Alameda Avenues. While that
pleases the developer, it severely
worsens our traffic and overcrowds an area that will already
be impacted by the development
itself. And condos on City Park?
What is Chagnon thinking? Conversely, Joe Rocha had the sensibility to speak out against these
negative impacts.
Rocha puts the needs of
Azusa's residents first. Unlike his
opponent, Rocha stands to gain
nothing financially from the developments before the City
Council. And while Chagnon has
accepted close to 90% of her
campaign contributions - around
$30,000 - from developers and
outside interests, Rocha has refused such offers. He keeps his
hands clean of conflict-of-interest, and holds himself accountable to the people of Azusa.

Glendora's entire annual budget is only about $25 million annually, and our city staff and independent

you both opposed, but Glendora voters overwhelmingly approved.
Glendorans have rejected your negativism and politics of division before. We are confident they will do so
again and say NO to deliberate falsehoods and scare tactics on March 6th.

It's Howdy Doody Time . . . Again!

any of you
folks who
lived back in
the Good Ole
Days may
remember the live-TV kids' show
called "Howdy Doody Time".
Buckskin-clad Buffalo Bob and
his lovable marionette sidekick
Howdy would entertain and tantalize the screaming, yelling,
jumping kids in The Peanut Gallery.
By the time the program was
over, neither Bob nor the Peanut
Kids realized that Howdy usually
got his way!
To paraphrase a line from the
movie "Poltergeist": Howdy's baa-a-ck! This time, our state governing bodies are Buffalo(ed) Bob
(because they usually are "buffaloed" by POWERFUL special
interests). We The Citizens are
the manipulated kids in the Peanut Gallery. And Howdy, who
usually gets what he wants, is
the fat-cat special interests and
the ever-increasing number of
ILLEGAL ALIENS, whom our
state government, low-cost-labor-craving businesses, and leftwing activists worship and support. It is a VIOLATION OF
FEDERAL LAW to aid and abed
illegal aliens. But, who cares!
Many cities, like Los Angeles,
J.J. McDonough
thumb their noses at the Constitution. They aid and abet illegals
by declaring themselves sanctuary cities, and FORBIDDING
their police to inquire into the
LEGAL STATUS of lawbreakers. No nation on Earth grants
rights to illegals. Many nations - INCLUDING MEXICO -- treat
illegals HARSHLY! Some even
EXECUTE THEM! But, here in
America, there are those who
want to grant illegals GREATER
RIGHTS than citizens!
Here in California we have
entered a New Age of Political
Fantasy. Several years ago we
wanted to reform our state. Then
we defeated ALL of the
governor's proposals to effect
that reformation. Do we REALLY want to reform? Or, do we
want to REMAIN citizen-slaves,
whose primary purpose is to
SERVE special interests and the
INCREASING benefits given to
ILLEGAL ALIENS?
Defeat of the governor's proposals to reform has encouraged
the perpetually PROGRESSIVE
government to re-enact some of
the very measures we rebelled
against during the Davis regime.
How many times do we have to
be made fools of, before we
HOLD STATE GOVERNMENT
ACCOUNTABLE FOR DOING
THE JOB WE ELECTED THEM
TO DO?! Last week, the deadline for introducing new bills
passed. Since the session began
in December, our "hard-working" NOBILITY introduced some
1800 measures. Cal State Sacramento Political Analyst Barbara
O'Connor noted that 48 new
members submitted bills to bamboozle constituents into thinking
they're doing something for
them.
Out of the 1800 measures,
here are the bills I've selected to
comment on:
-- For the UMPTEENTH
TIME, Sen. Gil Cedillo (D-L.A.)
has introduced an ILLEGAL
ALIEN DRIVERS LICENSE bill.
Although defeated MANY
TIMES in the past, it made it to
the governor's desk last time, and
was VETOED! However, the
Gov has indicated he MIGHT
APPROVE it NEXT TIME!
What a slap in the face to the citizens of this state!
-- Senor Cedillo also has introduced bills to make it easier
for ILLEGAL ALIENS to obtain
citizenship and "integrate into
society". Of course, they
WON'T have to learn English, or
be knowledgeable of U.S. history
and customs. After all, doesn't
the Southwest STILL belong to
Mexico?
-- Senor Cedillo also wants to
allow ILLEGALS to attend state
colleges and universities at resident rates, and obtain FINANCIAL AID at those institutions.
Out-of-state AMERICAN CITIZENS don't even have these
privileges! Is it possible that ILLEGAL ALIENS now have more
rights and privileges than American citizens? If so, why remain
an American citizen, when you
can RENOUNCE it, and CASH
IN on being an ILLEGAL?!
But, maybe there's still hope
for conscientious Americans,
who have sacrificed much to
DEFEND THE NATIONAL
SOVEREIGNTY of our Great
Land -- in spite of what
ILLEGALS and their advocates
are doing to us.
-- Assemblyman Paul Cook
(R-Yucaipa) wants to prevent
ILLEGAL ALIENS from obtaining in-state resident benefits at
tax-supported colleges and taxpayer expense.
-- Sen. Tom Harman (R-Costa
Mesa) wants to make ILLEGAL
ALIENS guilty of trespassing in
California, because they HAVE
NO RIGHT to be in the United
States -- OR IN CALIFORNIA!
Sen. Harman also wants public
and private employers to ENSURE that job applicants and
employees are NOT ILLEGAL
ALIENS. Is this asking too
much, since national data bases
exist where such information can
easily be checked?
In his waning years, commenting on what it takes to be
an American, President Teddy
Roosevelt said, "There can be no
divided allegiance here . . . We
have room for but one flag, the
American flag . . . We have room
for but one language here, and
that is the English language . . .
We have room for but one sole
loyalty and that is a loyalty to the
American people." Teddy (and I
DON'T mean Kennedy!), where
are you when we need you? Certainly, NOT in California . . . OR
Washington!

My, How The Vietnamese-Americans Have Assimilated

During our years as professors at Cal Poly Pomona we
were privileged to have many
Vietnamese-American students
from Orange County in our
classes.
By and large they were hardworking young men and
women. We enjoyed seeing all
of them develop into typical college students.
But for some time now disturbing noises have come out of
Little Saigon.
The Nguyens and their cousins have obviously learned what
it means to integrate in America.
Commentators who denounce
what they see as the refusal of
certain immigrant groups to integrate must be proud of Vietnamese-Americans.
Some residents of Little
Saigon apparently think one requirement of U.S. citizenship is
that you demonize other immigrant groups. The object of their
attack is Orange County's large
Latino population. They've also
learned that to win elections you
appeal to your strength, which
in this case is the 135,000 Vietnamese in the O.C. Put these
together and you have a winner.
During the O. C.'s recent supervisorial election two Vietnamese immigrants, both named
Nguyen but unrelated, ran as

As one commentator said: "In
this election, the appeal to ethnic
solidarity was undisguised."
But aware that in a close race
some white votes might well determine the victor, candidate
Janet Nguyen played the "illegal
immigrant" card. One election
flyer she issued carried this statement: "My family immigrated
here the right way - legally - like
millions before them over the
years."
The leaflet depicted Hispanics
crossing a barbed-wire fence
while other immigrants were
shown in a photo being sworn
in as citizens. "When it comes to
immigration, there is a right way
and a wrong way."
Well, Janet, We've got news
for you. Your attempt to tie Vietnamese refugees to the historic,
traditional way of immigration to
this country - the "legal way" as
you call it - is disingenuous.
Your family and hundreds of
thousands of other refugees
from Vietnam were allowed in
under legislation that permitted
overwhelming numbers of Cubans and Vietnamese into this
country solely because of the
virulent anti-communist attitude
that existed following the Castro
revolution and the Vietnam War.
That may make you "legal" but it
wasn't the way most legal immigrants, by the millions, came to
this country.
Like the million Cubans who
fled their homeland posing as
seekers of asylum from Castro's
persecution, those who left Vietnam came here without the restrictions placed on other immigrants.
Had you waited in line as potential immigrants from other
countries must wait, most of you
would still be in a refugee camp
somewhere in East Asia. Instead,
you went to the front of the line.
Yes, many of you endured
great hardships and, like the Cubans crossing the treacherous
channel to Florida, you risked
your lives and that of your children. And many died in the attempt.
But, how can you set yourself above the Latino who, for
the welfare of his family, dares
cross the dangerous waters of
the Rio Grande or the sweltering
heat of the southern deserts?
The "illegal" Latino immigrant
differs from you only because
Americans made you "legal."
But making you legal did not
change the attitude held by many
native Americans regarding Asian
immigrants, whether wartime
refugees or those simply seeking a better standard of living
here.
Have you forgotten the reaction of certain communities toward the first of your countrymen to reach the U.S.? They
were referred to by the derogatory names that had been used
to refer to the enemy during the
war in Vietnam, and earlier in
Korea. When Vietnamese fishermen attempted to enter that line
of work in America, they faced
vocal and physical opposition.
Critics talked of Vietnamese
youth gangs in much the same
way that Latino gangs are now
denounced.
We regret to say that Cuban
and Vietnamese refugees, to
most white Americans, are no
different from the "Mexicans"
that one of your campaign mailers attacked in your appeal to
"Republicans who dislike Mexicans".
While you may explain it away
by saying the word "Mexican"
was an inadvertent euphemism
for "illegal immigrants," its use
still shows a subconscious, if not
actual conscious, attitude of racism.
The blatant appeal to ethnic
identity that dominated the O.C.
supervisorial campaign was unbecoming to new Americans who
are supposed to assimilate, not
foster disunity.

What Secretary Rice's Agenda Should Be

If U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice had wanted to
make a real contribution to enhancing future prospects for an
Israeli-Palestinian peace, she
would not be spending her time
in the region "sketching out
broader political issues" with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
and Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas.
After too many years of U.S.
neglect, these issues are abstractions that pale in comparison to
immediate needs.
What the secretary should be
focusing her energy on is reinforcing the Mecca Accords and
pressing Israel to end its strangulation of the Palestinian
economy and society.
The agreement signed in
Mecca between Hamas and
Fatah, under the sponsorship of
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul
Aziz, was an important development that the U.S. should have

immediately, even if conditionally, embraced.
They did not. Still hoping for
an intra-Palestinian confrontation
that Fatah would decisively win,
the U.S. has made clear its displeasure with Mecca's compromise arrangements.
As a compromise, the accords
can be criticized by partisans and
ideologues alike.
What cannot be denied is that
they achieved what was possible
by recognizing important reali-
ties. First and foremost, there is
the acknowledgement that a balance of force and a division of
loyalty exists in Palestine.
While Hamas won the election, Fatah retained not only the
office of the President, but an
important role in Palestinian society.
For example, while the U.S.and Israeli-led embargo starved
the Palestinian economy and
made it impossible for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to pay sala-
ries of over 150,000 civil servants, it is important to note that
most of those affected were
Fatah loyalists. The result: Palestinians in general - not just
Hamas - paid the price.
Pressure mounted between the
rival parties, resulting in months
of deadly clashes. But, in the end,
came the realization that neither
side could impose its unfettered
will on the Palestinian polity.
If left unchecked, the violence
would have created permanent
fractures, benefiting no one.
With Israel expanding its intrusive wall and settlements in
the West Bank and maintaining
its economic blockade of the
West Bank and Gaza, and the
U.S. remaining passive in the
face of these measures and imposing its own punishment on the
PA, and with the Palestinian factions pathetically reduced to turning their self-destructive violence
on each other, the situation had

become desperate.
Saudi Arabia stepped into this
breach using its political, religious and economic clout in order to encourage an intra-Palestinian compromise.
The political formula outlined
in the Mecca Accords is significant. Hamas retains the post of Hopeful aspects of this accord:
firm acknowledgement of the
role of the Palestinian presidency
to negotiate with Israel; commitment to respect international
resolutions previously signed by
the PLO; and realization that neither Hamas nor Fatah can or
should impose unfettered will on
the Palestinian polity.
- If the U.S. is serious about
making progress towards a twostate solution, it should seize this
positive first step and resolve to
work with Saudi Arabia to build
upon it.

Iraq: The ISG Report And The "Surge"
- Should Either Be Taken Seriously?
T
he major issue confronting the country today - and the
principal reason for
the recent Republican defeat - is the war in Iraq.
The President, correctly, in my
opinion, believes that Iraq is an
integral part of the war on terror, while the Dems seem to
think it is a costly diversion (although, again, one must note that
they haven't always thought this
way; they were of a different
view in 1998 as to the danger
posed by Iraq - they only
switched their position when
Bush adopted it). And the dialogue to date has been peppered
with slogans like "stay the
course" or "cut and run." The
former is at least a strategy, one
that must be fleshed out with
suitable tactics (which, to date,
has not been done in a very satisfactory manner).
The latter, which the Dems
support (all the while trying to
deny it by putting a pretty face
on it) is nothing but an expression of appeasement and surrender. We are in this war - every
one wishes it were otherwise (either because it were not necessary or because we should not
be in this position to begin with).
All would like to extricate ourselves in the most appropriate
manner with minimum loss - of
either life or face.
The only difference between
the parties seems to be that the
Republicans would like to leave
a stable and democratic Iraq (and,
as a consequence, a safer
world), while the Dems would
just like to leave (without seeming to be too concerned about the
Ken Eliasberg
consequential safety of either, the
world, or, more to the point, the
U.S.).
Two pronouncements have
recently been made which may
(or may not, depending on the
extent to which they are implemented) have an effect on the
course of developments in Iraq
(and, as a consequence, developments in the U.S., i.e., the
course followed with respect to
each may well determine the
presidential outcome in 2008).
They are the recommendations
contained in the Iraq Study
Group Report (ISG), and the
president's request for a "," i.e.,
an escalation of troops in Iraq,
with a concomitant adjustment
in the tactics with which the war
is to be fought, i.e., the "rules of
engagement."
Let me first give you my assessment of the value of the ISG
report - it is completely worthless. It is unimaginably idiotic,
and, more to the point, a complete exercise in futility. In essence, what this august body is
recommending is that we talk to
Iran and Syria with a view to
soliciting their aid in resolving our
Iraqi problem. Hellloooo - these
2 countries are a big part (the
biggest part) of our Iraqi problem. The recommendation is covered over with some flowery language like "we have to talk to our
enemies" (and, help me out here,
tell them what), and that Iran and
Syria have an interest in clearing
up the chaos in Iraq. This latter
observation is so preposterous as
to beg the question of the
author's sanity. First of all, as
noted, these 2 countries, particularly Iran, are creating a good
deal of the chaos in Iraq. And
second, and more to the point,
why would Iran and Syria like a
stable and democratic country on
their border? Would these 2 despotic regimes really want to see
democracy break out in the region?? Give me a break!
But haven't we been down this
road before? How does this differ, if at all, from Munich in
1938? Let me simplify it for you
- it's worse! Hitler was, to a certain limited extent, slightly more
nuanced in his desire to take over
Europe, giving hope (albeit a slim
hope) to the other major powers
that peace might be the outcome
of such discussions.
What do we talk about with
Iran, who has already told us
that, after denying the first holocaust, they have every intention
of bringing about a second such
event? And, assuming that there
is a negotiation opening of some
limited nature, what do we negotiate about? The only thing that
Iran wants from us is for us to
get out of the way of their
nuclear ambitions. This is a deal
breaker - we simply cannot let
Iran have such weaponry. Why
not? Because Iran is not only
more overtly belligerant than
Nazi Germany was, but, more to
the point, Hitler never had atomic
weapons. And Nazis, although
bad guys, had no desire to die
(whereas radical Muslims seem
to find the thought inspiring). I
find the ISG report incomprehensibly ridiculous; I have a better chance of flying (without the
aid of a plane) than these recommendations have of providing
a solution to our problem in Iraq.
As far as Syria is concerned,
their position will, in all likelihood,
not differ from that of Iran. Assuming that they were willing to
enter into negotiations at all (and
further assuming that they could
be trusted to honor any obligation that they took on pursuant
to such negotiations - a laughable assumption in view of our
history with Arab agreements what price would they ask us to
pay)? Simple - return the Golan
Heights to them. Unless, as part
of such negotiation arrangements, Israel was included as a
negotiating partner and, in turn,
secured from Syria the agreement to recognize Israel's existence and permanently suspend
any acts of terrorism, any such
agreement amounts to little more
than selling Israel out.
How about the "surge" - where
can that go? Without changing
the rules of engagement - i.e. taking off the gloves and not trying
to fight a politically correct war
to appease the anti-war left in this
country - it will do no more than
put more than 20,000 of our best
and brightest in harm's way. That
is, unless we seriously commit
to waging war with all the intensity that we can bring to bear,
then the surge will do no more

than postpone the inevitable failure in Iraq. We can win, but we
have not been fighting this war
in a manner calculated to win.
In sports there is an old saying,
you play to win; you never play
not to lose (because you will).
And we have been fighting this
war not to lose - we have not
been fighting it to win. Permit me
to elaborate. War is brutal,
messy, violent, savage, and imprecise - and people get killed,
and the goal is to see to it that a
lot more of them get killed than
do of our people - it is never
about proportionality. On the
contrary, you want the greatest
amount of disproportionality you
can have, and you want it for 2
reasons: (1) you always want to
keep your casualties to a minimum, and (2) you want to inspire fear in the enemy? Why?
To destroy their will to fight - to
make them aware that they may
not be able to absorb the damage that you intend to inflict on
them - to take away hope. Unless the "surge" means that we
are now prepared to do that - i.e.,
take off the gloves and hunt these
guys down and kill them, wherever they are - then sending in
20,000 more of our young men
and women is merely putting
20,000 more of our best and
brightest in harm's way. Unless
we are prepared to turn them
loose and empower them to do
whatever it takes, whatever death
and destruction is necessary to
visit on the enemy, then the surge
is a splurge in which we can ill
afford to indulge. Next week,
what victory looks like and what
it takes to produce it.

here is a concerned
buzz circulating
Wall Street that has
raised many ears
with the threat of a
recession this year.
I have seen the clip, and can
offer some clarification of the
Greenspan story (or at least one
of them) making the email circuit.
The Bloomberg News snip
quoting a Dow Jones story implies that Greenspan said a recession is possible this year because the deficit is too big. The
first sentence reads, "Former
Federal Reserve Chairman Alan
Greenspan says the U.S. budget
deficit is a concern and a recession is possible by the end of this
year, Dow Jones reported."
What he actually said was that
corporate profit margins appear
to be shrinking, which is typical
of a mature expansion. Once a
mature expansion begins, he
said, a recession is possible, and
the possibility of a recession goes
up a bit every year.
He then said that few economists expect a recession this
year, which makes it sound like

he thinks a recession is possible,
but not probable in 2007.
The buzz appears to be much
concern about nothing - but, it
still had a meaningful effect on
interest rates. Interest rates
across the curve dropped on the
story.
With the drop in interest rates,
has the climate among Fed followers changed in any way? Not
so. For the present, I believe the
Federal Reserve remains comfortably on hold; an ease in rates
is quite unlikely unless conditions
significantly deteriorate. Whether
the current monetary policy regarding rates is consistent with
a decline in core inflation to
within the Fed's long-run desired
range remains its primary concern. Our current Fed Chairman
has recently expressed the Fed's
belief that the economy is slowing to a sustainable growth pace,
reflected primarily in the ongoing housing correction. He has
noted that the significant slowdown in housing has not substantially spilled over to other
sectors of the economy.
FED SPIN - My 35 year career in the Capital Markets has
taught me (as funny as it might
sound) that no one likes a weak
economy. Congress, the White
House and the public would not
react well if Federal Reserve officials were to tell them that the
Federal Open Market Committee
has adopted policy intended to
choke off economic growth and
boost the unemployment rate,
even if it is for our own good.
So the Fed emphasizes the bright
spots, glosses over any weakness
and underscores its commitment
to price stability. Once inflation
falls to an acceptable level, or the
economy slows enough to convince the FOMC that it soon will
fall to a more desirable level, the
emphasis will shift back to a
more balanced approach. Until
then, investors in either the stock
market or bond market will be
best served by stepping back
from the latest rumors and focusing on long-term trends. And,
take anything a Fed official says
with a generous grain of salt.

FAST TO GO UP AND SO

Remember several weeks ago
when oil dropped to $50 per barrel? It would not surprise me if
you did not, because the price at
the pump certainly did not reflect
the move downward. Crude oil
broke above $60 per barrel last
week, up 17% from its midJanuary lows and its highest
price so far in 2007. One does
not have to look for fundamental reasons for last week's rally

for food, and 30 days to pay for
transportation costs.
My daughter had great
credit; he husband didn't, so all
debt in their marriage went into
her name as the primary borrower. They got a divorce. Her
ex-husband signed the divorce
agreement which stated that he
agreed to quit-claim off the
mortgage, pay half of all the
credit card debts and take over
his truck payments. He returned
the truck to the dealer, owing
thousands, has not signed the
quit-claim on the house, and is
not paying anything on the
credit card debt. My daughter
is being hounded by creditors.
What can my daughter do?
As far as I know (remember,
I'm not an attorney, so I'm not
giving any legal advice), your
daughter is probably stuck with
all the debt. She could take her
ex-husband to civil court, but
he'd probably just declare bankruptcy. Regardless of what the
divorce court has ordered, if
she's on the credit card, mortgage, and truck loan, she's stuck
for the debt. She might want to
check with a divorce attorney for
more help.

allowable itemized deductions exceed your
standard deduction. Generally, for 2006,
a single person may claim a standard deduction of just over $5,000; a head of
household just over $7,500; a married
couple filing jointly or a qualifying
widow(er) just over $10,000; and a married person filing separately just over
$5,000. Keep in mind that larger standard deductions are allowed to those who
are age 65 or over, or blind, and lower
standard deductions are allowed to dependents with only investment income.

The article stated that “Harrold/Parisi
workers were caught by the Glendora
Police Department Monday night putting
defamatory stickers on the campaign
signs…”. This is false and an obvious attempt by supporters of the three incumbent council members to defame and discredit both Mr. Harrold and Ms. Parisi
and their hard-working volunteers. Ms.
Parisi had absolutely no knowledge of the
activity in question.
Since the incident was reported, Ms.
Parisi has expressed outrage that Councilman Gary Clifford deliberately involved
the Police Department in jeopardizing the
futures and reputations of two young
women who were, in fact, simply attempting to inform the public that it was
Mr. Clifford, himself, who was in violation of the law with campaign signs placed
in locations prohibited by city ordinance.
The two young women were reportedly
identified by Mr. Clifford, handcuffed,
arrested, photo’d, fingerprinted and held
at the station for several hours, and now
face future legal actions, all at the request

While the Glendora Republican Club
may indeed be the old and large political
organization it claims to be, with access
to the purse of the L.A. County Republican Central Committee and influence with
area Lincoln Clubs, it does not have license to make wholly inaccurate statements. Many of Ms. Parisi’s supporters
are Republicans, and perhaps some are
even members of the Glendora Club. The
Club leadership could apparently use a
pointed reminder that local races are nonpartisan. Many of Ms. Parisi’s volunteer
campaign team are certainly registered,
loyal Republicans and let me assure you,
we object to the condescension and campaign dirty tricks being carried out under
the name of Glendora Republicans.

Platform of Glendora
Mayor Doug Tessitor
When I was elected four years
ago, I made a number of
promises to you, the voters of
Glendora! I promised to:

protect our foothills;
·
preserve
our
neighborhoods;
·
promote our economy;
·
enhance our parks;
·
Improve our Police and
City Services;
·
Assist our seniors.
Each of those promises was
kept, I am proud to say!
We have made great progress
in protecting our foothills. By
defeating NJD’s land swap
proposal (Measure “A”) we
reaffirmed our city’s hillside
ordinances. In addition, we
acquired 70 acres of the
Ferguson Bluebird Ranch for the
Glendora Conservancy. We are
in the process of acquiring the
remaining 310 acres. Almost 400
acres of our hillsides to be
preserved in its natural state
forever!
We are in the final stages of
completing our General Plan
Revision. For the first time in
Glendora’s history each
neighborhood had input into
how they wanted their area to be
zoned. We are retaining the
existing neighborhood standards!
We have continued to
improve the Auto Center and
Glendora Marketplace with the
Diamond Ridge expansion. This
area will provide $10,000,000 +
per year to the resources of the
City. The award winning Route
66 Specific Plan will preserve
and renew a primary commercial
corridor in the city.
This last weekend we
previewed and dedicated our new
$10,000,000 renovation to Louie
Pompei Sport Park. This facility
will provide state of the art fields
for Glendora’s youth. We have
provided for additional linear
parks in the west side of town
for walking, biking and jogging.
The additional funds from our
new commercial activity, have
allowed us to improve our pay
and benefits to our Police and
City Staff.
We are fully staffed and
morale is high. All of the
incumbents have received the
endorsements of the Glendora
Police Management and Police
Officers Associations.
We continue to work diligently
on repairing our long neglected
water system, our streets and our
sewer system. Not exciting
endeavors, but absolutely
imperative to accomplish!
We have done all these things
while maintaining balanced
budgets and without resorting to
a utility tax.
This is a partial list of our
accomplishments. We have
much more to do. That is why I
am asking for your support to
re-elect me and my fellow
incumbents, Tuesday, March 6,

Boyd Elected Republican Party
Regional Vice-Chairman
Doug Boyd was overwhelmingly elected to the position of
Regional Vice Chairman at the
California Republican Party
(CRP) State Convention earlier
this month in Sacramento. He
becomes one of eight Regional
Vice Chairmen representing various geographical areas of California. Because of its huge population of over ten million people,
Los Angeles County is its own
region.
Regional Vice Chairmen are
Members of the powerful CRP
Board of Directors, which conducts the affairs of the Republican party statewide. Other Members
include
Governor
Schwarzenegger, federal and
state Republican elected leaders,
and a statewide Party Chairman,
Vice Chairman, Treasurer and
Secretary.
Boyd served as Republican
Party State Treasurer from 2001
to 2006, and was Assistant Treasurer from 1999 to 2001. He received a special award last year
from the California Republican
Party, including a bust of President Reagan and a plaque commending him for his "distinguished and dedicated service" to
the Party and its principles.
Doug Boyd succeeded his
wife Linda as Regional Vice
Chairman for Los Angeles. Linda
is currently in her third term as
Chairman of the Republican
Party of Los Angeles County.
Doug, Linda and their 11 children reside in Glendora.
False Compartments are the
Target of Recent Legislation
SACRAMENTO — Although storing drugs in a false
compartment in a vehicle is
against the law, storing money
for drug deals and guns in these
same false compartments don't
carry the same penalties.
Assemblyman Bob Huff introduced legislation to close the
loophole and call for stiffer sentences for criminals caught with
hiding these items in their car.
Assemblyman Bob Huff (RDiamond Bar) introduced AB
278, which would make it illegal for individuals to make or
use compartments in vehicles
for the purpose of hiding drugs,
weapons or money.
"Guns and money used in
drug deals are real threats to our

public safety, just as much as
the actual drugs that are changing hands," said Assemblyman
Huff. "Criminalizing each component of the drug trade, including hiding these items in a car,
is an important step to protecting the public."
"In the last five years, we've
seen adult drug arrests climb
consistently," continued Huff.
"We need laws that reflect zero
tolerance for illegal drug use and zero tolerance for tactics involved in the illegal drug trade."

Who is JOE ROCHA?

"If it has to happen then it all depends on me." This is one of the most recognized quotes of Councilman Joe Rocha. Born and raised in
Azusa, he graduated from Azusa High School and earned his bachelors degree in social science from the University of La Verne where he
later earned his masters degree in administration with high honors. He did all these while teaching the third grade class in the morning,
studying for his master's degree in the afternoon and teaching classes at night for adults. After thirty-eight years of teaching, he retired but
continues as administrator of adult classes at night.
Several citizens consider Joe Rocha as the 'heart' of the city council for his compassionate nature, expressed through the various ventures
he has done for the community. In doing what is best for Azusa, he formed a volunteer group and initiated quality programs such as offering
food to the needy, services for the seniors, litter clean-up, and graffiti removal. In beautifying Azusa, countless trees were planted, placing
Azusa on the list of "Tree City U.S.A."
Since his election to the city council he has worked incessantly with local veteran groups volunteering time and effort in planning and
preparing events such as veterans day commemoration day, the walk of freedom where names of the soldiers from Azusa appear on marble
blocks, and the creation of all the existing monuments in front of city hall containing some names of service men killed in action defending
our country. A mobile type wall, a replica of the original Vietnam Wall in Washington was recently erected and placed in exhibition for public

speech was titled, "I Will Speak
Liberal as the North" (quoted by
Emiia in "Othello"). Dr. Anderson reviewed much of this moving Shakespearean drama and
used it to illustrate "Teaching
Tales of Women's Courage and
Connection."

Caltech And MIT Battle For Blood!
PASADENA — The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are out for blood and are hosting a series
of blood drives with the American Red Cross during the
month of February. The school with the highest percentage of their student population participating in these
blood drives will win the Caltech vs. MIT Blood Battle
trophy and bragging rights-at least until their next competition.
"Students at Caltech and MIT have been competing
with each other since at least the 1930s," explains Christine Boyle, from Human Resources at Caltech. "This
good-natured competition gives Caltech and MIT students and alumni another chance to root for their school
by donating blood; it's a great way to show school spirit
while helping a great number of people."
Caltech blood drives will be held February 26 and
27 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in the Winnett Lounge on
Caltech's campus. MIT blood drives were held February 12, 13 and 14, 15 in the school's Student Center-La
Sala.
According to Cliff Numark, Director of Donor Recruitment for the American Red Cross Blood Services,
Southern California Region, "Through this fun and
friendly competition, the two schools will be helping
educate new and existing donors to the importance of
donating blood or platelets on a regular basis. And, although a trophy will be awarded to the school that has
the highest percentage of their student body participating, the real winners are the patients in the hospitals we
serve who will benefit from the blood and blood products collected as a result of this blood drive."

Tuesday, March 6, 2007 - another election just around
the corner. It's unfortunate to see Kristin Parisi Report
Card in the San Gabriel Valley Examiner giving our current
City Council a "F" rating on their performance. I believe
the Council has done a good job.
No candidate is perfect. Look at the whole picture, and
if you believe our City Council has done a good job, vote
accordingly.
Just remember what the council meetings were like the negativism and turmoil that existed with John Harrold
on the council and supported by Kristin Parisi. Do not let
them divide our city.

I'm writing to express my support of
Uriel Macias for Azusa City Council.
Macias is by far the best candidate due to
his rational stance toward development and
his focus on bettering the quality of life
for all Azusa residents.
Macias, unlike the current councilman
he's running against, is an independent
thinker who is deeply skilled thanks to his
extensive business background and financial know-how. He is clear about not accepting campaign money from special interests, and working only for the will of
Azusa's people. His four highly successful years as Azusa's City Treasurer will
bring a unique contribution to the issues
brought before our city council.
Macias is also simply just a true person
With relatives in Iraq and Afghanistan
fighting the war, I would be the first to
wish all of our troops home safely and to
set a specific date for withdrawal. They
are in Iraq fighting a war, while our overpaid democratic political leaders continue
to toy with their lives. Our troops have
given their lives, only to be criticized by
the Congressional Democrats and House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
I was a Democrat, and I think our
democratic leaders should feel shame, disgrace and dishonor, and should be filled
with guilt when they propose to deny funding and resources for existing troops in
Iraq.
Our troops and their families must feel
helpless knowing that our political leaders
are not 100% behind them financially,
emotionally and physically.
Our political leaders (Democrat and
Republican) squandered 57 billion dollars
in hard cash on Iraq reconstruction. 10
billion dollars has disappeared through organizations, contractors and work that
was never done.
Democratic leaders have questioned
and are attempting to delay funding for
our troops, but where is their investigation into these lost funds? Our tired troops
are much in need of additional reinforcement troops. Let's put our political leaders on the front lines in Iraq for years
without support and funding. Do we dare
to deny our U.S. troops funding and additional troops at the expense of their lives?

A Mother’s Letter
Glendora Don't Need Their Fixing!
We already have a great city
council and their many and effective actions speak louder than
political attacks against them.
None of the challengers replacing any of the incumbents is likely
to be an improvement.
To paraphrase; "Ask not what
Glendora can do for your ego,
but what you can do for
Glendora", and withdraw.
During just 2007, Glendora is
faced with the retirement of four
of the six city department heads,
including the city manager, who
supervises all of the other department heads.
The last thing we need is
Newbies with their own idealistic agenda tinkering at the expense of professional and timely
actions that benefit all of us.
Even less is toleration of resumed erratic conflict that is only
for the benefit of an egomaniac,
whom we got rid of before, and
his past and present accomplices.
The challengers are attacking
the present council, although it
is the only one that had the foresight and statesmanship to solve
the unpopular problem of the dangerously deteriorating aging water system.
It certainly couldn't have escaped the incumbents' minds
that it could cost them their reelections, but councils for decades have swept it under the
asphalt to avoid being the bad
guys - peace in our time. I certainly don't like paying higher
water bills, but the alternatives
are a lot less palatable. Even with
the costs of upgrading the system, Glendora's rates are still
comparable with other neighboring cities , Inter alia, every council that Harrold was on and/or
controlled, refused or failed to
take the undisputed necessary
actions. Not many like the idea
of having cancer treatment, either, but ignoring either it or the
water system is certain to have
unnecessary dire consequences,
all too soon and the cure would
continue becoming rapidly more
expensive.
As to keeping Athens for trash
pickup and the change in method
of payment, the incumbents and
city staff checked out all alternatives and Athens is the only one
that will continue to give us unlimited quantity and almost unlimited variety of items for
pickup. There is no other company that offers anything near
acceptable service, so there is no
point having them bid. Residents
of neighboring cities sometimes
bring trash to relatives or friends
in Glendora because their trash
company won't pick it up!
Is it just coincidence, or did
Johnson set up Mayor Tessitor
with claims that Stan Wong was
allegedly doing, thinking about or
looking like he might do illegal
or immoral things, shortly before
Johnson filed to run for council,
primarily against Tessitor? If
Johnson had such information
and any valid evidence, he should
have gone directly to an appropriate law enforcement agency,
such as the District Attorney. It
is my understanding that his intemperate grandstanding allegations were investigated by the appropriate authorities and found to
be totally without merit. We don't
need such gutter politicers on our
council. While the number of
Johnson signs might appear to
show broad support, they are
mostly by his enthusiastic fellow
church members and may be
grossly misleading.
Lest we forget, Mayor
Tessitor was a leader in defeating Harrold gang’s opposition to
our Marketplace and then was a
leader in the recall of Harrold and
his two regressive cronies, but
Tessitor did not run for Harrold’s
replacement at the time of the
recall.
Harrold’s proxy, Gene Osko,
has promoted such things as
four districts so that Harrold
could possibly win his section of
a divided Glendora.
Harrold thrives on conflict
about anything and everything and power. Most humans get satisfaction out of either or both
their vocation and hobbies.
Harrold certainly isn't getting
much satisfaction out of his
work so his "hobby" is political
conflict and power.
He brags that it is an honor
for him to be a deputy District
Attorney for 20 years, but he neglects to mention that he has remained the kindergarten of some
nine levels for the entire 20 years!
Only someone who lives for
what little power they get from
that position and/or couldn't
make a living anywhere else,
would remain in the most menial
position for their entire career.
Even the D.A., his top boss is
actively supporting all the incumbents against Harrold, which is
most rare.
What Harrold says is meaningless. What he has done, and
will do again, if given the opportunity, is the only criteria we
should consider.
His puppet, Parisi's judgment
is just as irrational and distorted,
which is too typical of "dogooder" journalists, like those in
the main stream liberal media.
That leaves Tweini, and I notice Harrold and Parisi signs
mixed in with many of his.
It isn't broke, and we don't
need any of these misguided fixers. Re-elect the incumbents!

A Positive Picture … Re-Elect Incumbents
In 2002, seeing the then
Mayor, John Harrold, and other
City Council members ignoring
suggestions
to
improve
Glendora's need for economic
growth and change, Doug
Tessitor spearheaded a movement for their replacement.
Voters agreed with that action.
They chose to replace the
Mayor and Council Members involved, and through Measure D
approved the "Marketplace" retail development area, which has
ultimately increased our city's
revenue.
Glendora has a balanced budget, and property owners have
not had their taxes increased.
There is nothing wrong with
this picture; the majority ruled
and revenue gained.
I have applauded the efforts
of all our council members ever
since, including incumbents
former Mayor Clifford, Mayor
Pro-Tem Herman and Mayor
Tessitor.
Their cooperation and leadership have resulted in many positive and beneficial changes for
us:
* A New Sports Park for our
Children
* A New Plaza in the Village
* Remodeling and Renovations to the Senior Center and
other Parks
* Recognition and Plan of Action for aging water systems, including completion of a new well
* Renewing a contract with a
service provider who has performed satisfactorily. (Do you
change doctors, auto-mechanics
or plumbers, if they've performed to your expectations?).
There is nothing wrong with
this picture: Improvements
gained.
The future holds an even
rosier picture.
Our foothills remain protected
and the Conservancy will acquire
more space.
Glendora's financial situation
will benefit through more sales
taxes generated by additional
growth:
- The new Diamond Ridge retail addition to the Marketplace
will be operational very soon.
- New restaurant, retail, and
commercial businesses in The
Village and
- along Route 66 that will meet
all the standards required to keep
Glendora The Pride of the Foothills.
These are pretty pictures.
Let's continue the positive. Vote
to re-elect Clifford, Herman and
Tessitor on March 6.

win your bid for re-election. You
deserve to win another four
years on Glendora's Council, but
whether you win or not, I want
you to know how proud I am of
the job you have done - both as
a Councilman and as Mayor.
I am proud of your integrity,
and proud that you have held to
your beliefs, because they were
right for Glendora.
Doug, I am proud of the way
you stepped into politics to right
the damage that the then mayor,
his mayor pro-tem, and one of
the councilmen were doing to our
city because of their negativity
and their viciousness. Their actions included firing our City
Manager without cause, firing all
of the commissioners without
cause, and threatening to fire the
entire city staff. I dread to think
what would have happened to
our city, had the entire leadership
been ousted and replaced with
inexperienced newcomers.
Where would the continuity have
been?
I am proud that you were one
of the leaders who had the vision and courage to fight for the
Marketplace, that you led the
movement to recall John Harrold
and his two cohorts, and I'm
proud that you have had the
courage and wisdom to fight to
replace the City's ancient infrastructure. Had issues such as
water and sewer pipes been replaced years ago, the cost to taxpayers would have been considerably less.
You and your teammates have
done a superb job, Doug. I'm
proud of you.

Glendora - Move Forward
or Go Backwards?
That is the stark choice
Glendorans face next Tuesday on
behalf of our beloved City as
voters: decide whether or not to
re-elect Councilmen Gary
Clifford, Ken Herman and Doug
Tessitor, or replace them with
their challengers.
We should consider a number
of factors, but there are two that
stand out to me. First, are we
better off now than we were five
years ago?
There is a lot of evidence that
we are. City revenues are up as
a result of the Glendora Marketplace and Diamond Ridge
projects among others. The
Council wisely put a lot of this
money back into the community
in the form of park upgrades.
The total renovation now nearing completion of Louie Pompei
sports park alone costs many
millions of dollars, dollars that we
have because this Council
moved us forward.
There are quite a few less
trash-strewn vacant lots in town
because this Council moved us
forward with responsible
projects that respected our high
standards and limited development.
Five years ago, Glendora's
reputation was on a par with
Baldwin Park or South Gate as a
troubled town beset with strife
and erratic, unstable leadership.
Business leaders and developers
stayed away in droves despite
our great foothill location, highly
educated and affluent citizenry,
and proud history. Today,
Glendora is again one of the most
respected and admired cities in
the San Gabriel Valley.
The second critical factor to
me is - what do other leaders

think of these candidates? Who's
endorsing them or opposing
them? The three incumbents are
endorsed by Glendora's State
Senator Bob Margett, our State
Assemblyman Anthony Adams,
our County Supervisor Mike
Antonovich, our County Sheriff
Lee Baca, the LA County Republican Party and our County District Attorney Steve Cooley. I've
known Steve since before his
election, and a straighter shooter
you could never find. He rarely
endorses in local races, and it's
significant that he isn't endorsing his own Deputy, John
Harrold. He knows John's record
better than most, and obviously
isn't impressed. That is something to think about!
Around town, Clifford,
Herman and Tessitor are endorsed by the Glendora Police,
the other two Members of the
City Council (Republican Mark
Kelly and Democrat Karen
Davis), No on Measure A Chairman Joe Santoro and most of the
Committee, homeowner watchdog organization S.O.S.
Glendora, thirteen former
Glendora Citizens of the Year, the
Glendora Republican Club and
hundreds of civic and charitable
leaders who want stable, professional leadership that will unite
us, not divide us.
When you consider the facts
and separate them from all the
hot air, Gary Clifford, Ken
Herman and Doug Tessitor are
Glendora's way forward into a
better future for our community.
Harrold and Parisi? Well, only
in the movies can you go "back
