The Scorecard MESSAGE FRON THE PRESIDENT NO V 006 2 R E EMB Congratulations to our three new Board Members, Ellen Artist, Paul Dorius, and Dan Hall. They will be very good additions to next year’s Board. We had six strong candidates running for the Board this year, and I want to thank Paul Epp, Lane Read, and Jeff Wood, for running as well. Please encourage them to consider running again in future years. Our golf season, and what a great season it has been, is quickly coming to a close. I played my last round for the year today, and the course is still in great shape. A great big THANK YOU to Tom Rhoades and his crew for the wonderful condition the course has been in all year. Remember, the last day for play on the course is November 12th, unless snow closes us down sooner. Get out and enjoy the last few days. With the closing of the course our winter hours for the clubhouse will kick in, we will be open Thursday through Saturday for dinner, and Saturday and Sunday for lunch. Take advantage of the Pier Bar for watching some college football on Saturdays, and your favorite Pro team on Sunday! Many outside functions, especially Christmas parties, are being scheduled for the holiday season. If you would like to schedule a function, we will open the club on days that we are normally closed during this time of the year if you have a function with at least 50 people attending. If you are interested, please contact Ryan our Rick. On September 28th the Ladies Association had its first free Closing Social Party for all members of the Association. The new board was introduced to the general membership and voted in by a show of hands. The committee chairs began campaigning for volunteers to assist them with their new duties. We had a wonderful response from the attendees, though we never seem to have enough help. I am personally inviting those of you who were not able to attend to call one of the committees chairs and get involved. We have listed the phone numbers and emails for your convenience. Last year we introduced Bunko night and now I am hooked. This is a chance for you to come and learn about this complicated game (only kidding). But, more than that it’s a time you can get to know other members, visit all you want and not be messing up someone’s back swing. We provide light Hors d’ oeuvres and you can purchase drinks. We meet in the Pier Bar at 7:00 pm once a month, usually on a Thursday Night. Come join us it sure beats sitting at home watching TV or starring out the window at night. The chairs for this event are Cari Zylstra and Christine Padan. So, call them … Bridge meets the first and third Monday of every month. Fran Johnson is the Chairperson once again. I am not a bridge player but what a nice group of ladies (I say that now but wait until they have to teach me over and over again) that are willing to take on all new comers as well as the experienced players at large. Fran, I do play Rummy, is that going help with my lessons? Peg Armstrong will be our Handicap and Rules Chairperson this year. Team Golf requires this position in order for Jeremy Ladies Team to be eligible to participate in Team play. The next JLA Board meeting will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 5:30 pm. Board and Chairs please plan on attending this meeting so we can plan out the upcoming year. Following the meeting will be Bunko at 7:00 pm in the Pier Bar. We hope you will stay for this fun dicey event. I want to thank Mert Gertino for all of her hard work in collecting some of the best volunteers at Jeremy. But in addition to thanking her, my personal appreciation goes out to everyone who said YES when she called. In order for us to have a fun filled 2006 / 2007 we rely on volunteers. Weather permitting we will close the course on Sunday, November 12th. Although we had a late start this spring, we have enjoyed excellent golf course conditions this year. Tom Rhoades and his staff have been able to maintain the course at a high level despite a labor shortage this summer. There were a number of improvements/changes implemented on the course this year: · Repair of the pumps at the #6 pump house (at well below budget – special thanks to Layne Read and his company). · New tee monuments. · Cart path sealing. · New USGA yardage stamps. · Aeration fountain for the #2 pond. · Tee leveling at #4, #8, 11, and 18 (still under construction). · New mower blade sharpener. · New mowing equipment (under a very favorable long term lease with John Deere). The Member Survey earlier this year indicated a priority to the golf course for any potential capital spending. Based on this support, a golf architect has been commissioned to recommend improvements to the driving range, practice area, and putting green. We are on a schedule to offer this project for consideration by The Membership by January07. I would like to take this time to thank the following Grounds Committee members for their participation this year… Eric Anderson, Mike Brown, Tom Burt, Layne Read, Don Swanson, and Jim Tidwell. N ATTENTIO The 2006 Men’s Member—Guest Invitational was a sell out! ATTENTIO N Participants from the 2006 event will have first right of refusal for the 2007 Round-up. Specific dates, format, and entry deadlines will be made and communicated in the near future. If you did NOT play in the 2006 event, but are potentially interested in participating in the 2007 Round-up, you must submit a request to be put on the wait list. The wait list is being created now based on membership feed back. The order of the wait list will be based on submittal date. Please email Rick Schaefer, General Manager, at [email protected] with your request.
