The Scorecard - Jeremy Golf and Country Club
The Scorecard 006 2 r e b Decem MESSAGE FRON THE PRESIDENT It’s hard to believe that I stepped into the position of President of The Jeremy one year ago this month. It has been a very exciting, challenging, frustrating (my golf game went south), and rewarding year for me. My tenure was enhanced by having the opportunity to work with a great Board of Directors who all shared the goal of making everyone’s experience at The Jeremy the best possible while taking seriously the responsibility of being the stewards of the Clubs finances and resources. They have truly been a joy to work with. I was also blessed to have an excellent General Manager (Rick Schaefer), as well as responsible dedicated Department Heads and staff ( Tom Rhoades, Tom Costello, Jake Hanley, Heidi Henning, Alayna McSweeney, Eric Frady, Ken Campbell, Sauwanee Bahn, Chris Young, and Ryan Prosowski), who recognized the needs of the membership and did everything possible to meet those needs. We would be hard pressed to find a better Manager and Staff at any Private Club in Utah. DECEMBER 2006 Prime Rib Every Thursday Night 2nd Lights On - Club Christmas Party 9th Breakfast with Santa 24th Christmas Eve Day Club will close at 5 pm 25th Christmas Day - Club Closed 31st New Year’s Eve ala carte dining I would also like to thank all the membership for your participation in club activities and functions, as well as your input for improvements and direction for the club. I personally heard from many of you, and greatly appreciated you sugges1st tions. Remember, a great staff is of little use if the club members do not utilize and actively participate in the club functions. until 9 pm JANUARY 2007 Prime Rib Every Thursday Night New Year’s Day - Club Closed Many very good things happened this year, but they have only laid the foundation for what is to come in the future. Most, if not all, of our accomplishments start at the committee level, and our committees are only as good as those who make up the committees. We have excellent Committee Heads for this coming year, and we need any and all members who can serve on these committees to do so. It is here that all progress for The Jeremy starts. I strongly encourage you to join a committee and help continue Jeremy’s progress towards being the best club in the state. Please contact Rick Schaefer, or Mark Pennels to offer your services for one of these committees. The committee that I have been in charge of this year is the Information Services Committee. You have not heard much from this committee this year, but they have been very active. Our club will be rolling out a new web site sometime during the first quarter of ’07, and I am very excited about what we will be able to do and the quality of service that we will be able to offer through the new web site. We do, however, have one problem, only 200 members out of the 437 members here at The Jeremy have provided us with an e-mail address. It is hard for me to believe 237 of our members do not have an e-mail address. If you do have an e-mail address, but have not notified the club of this address, PLEASE let Alayna know your address so that you can participate in all that the club has to offer on line. You can call, or send an e-mail message to Alayna at [email protected]. Once again, I would like to thank the entire staff here at The Jeremy, and the entire membership. IT HAS TRULY BEEN A PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU!!! Larry Eagan A Newsletter for the Members of The Jeremy Golf and Country Club WANTED We are looking for Committee member volunteers. There is a lot of work to be done so it is important that these committees are in place by the end of December 2006. If you are interested please contact Rick Schaefer, CCM General Manager or Mark Pennels - President. We have begun our guest Utah artist program at The Jeremy. Each work of art will be for sale by the artist. Every six weeks we will introduce another artist for your enjoyment. Please visit the Clubhouse soon! Our first guest artist is Carole H. Evans. Carole H. Evans lives in Salt Lake City, Utah where she is a fulltime painter. She is a graduate of the University Of Utah, receiving a BFA in Fine Art and Painting. Continued study with national and local teachers has added to her on-going learning process of painting. Her award winning paintings are included in private, corporate and museum collections. Oil is the medium of choice, however, experimenting with other mediums is of interest. Layers of paint and glazing give depth to her work. The palette knife is a favorite tool in applying paint which gives freedom in putting ideas and feelings on canvas. The artist has a deep love for the land which is a frequent subject for paintings. "Painting is a love, passion and challenge that is a part of my everyday life. It is my hope that those viewing my work feel the pleasure I feel in making a painting. It is important that an impression of a place or time is one that can be revisited time and time again." Beginning the last week of November our next guest artist is Steven K. Sheffield. "My art is continually changing. I paint in distinctly different styles and mediums; it forces me to keep my work fresh and innovative." Steve works on synthetic paper as well as canvas/board. He has exhibited in numerous shows, receiving a number of awards, including four 'Best of Show' awards. He is a signature member, and past chairman of the Western Federation of watercolor Societies, and is a lifetime-honorary member and past president of the Utah Watercolor Society. N ATTENTIO The 2006 Men’s Member—Guest Invitational was a sell out! ATTENTIO N Participants from the 2006 event will have first right of refusal for the 2007 Round-up. Specific dates, format, and entry deadlines will be made and communicated in the near future. If you did NOT play in the 2006 event, but are potentially interested in participating in the 2007 Round-up, you must submit a request to be put on the wait list. The wait list is being created now based on membership feed back. The order of the wait list will be based on submittal date. The annual “Grudge Match” was held in November and congratulations are in order for the 8 Man Senior team who defeated the Junior team by a healthy margin. This annual match has become a fun tradition and I know the Junior team will be looking forward to next years match over the winter. The Men’s Association will be adding two new teams to the Tuesday Night League. Those of you who would like to enter a new team can sign up today. Please call the golf shop or email me at [email protected]. As some of you know our Head Golf Professional, Tom Costello, has played his way in to the final stage of the Champions Tour Qualifying School. This is a great accomplishment, as there were only a small number of players nationwide who made it this far. To be continued in January’s newsletter. The golf shop staff wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a very Happy New Year. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to a great 2007. See you on the first tee.
