1. Kayak down Hitchcock Creek
Feeling outdoorsy? Take a trip down Hitchcock Creek! Starting in
Rockingham, the Hitchcock Creek Blue Trail offers paddlers an opportunity
to explore the area’s diverse floodplain forests, historic mills remnants, and
rare plants and animals. The kayak trip is a lot of fun and a great way to get
the family outdoors!

2. Berry Patch Ice Cream—Enough Said
You may have been living under a rock if you haven’t seen the world’s largest
strawberry on the side of 220 in Ellerbe. Besides having some delicious ice cream,
the Berry Patch has lots of locally grown produce (zucchini, squash, watermelon,
and of course strawberries) just to name a few. Take a trip up to Ellerbe and
check out the Berry Patch today!

3. Play inside at Discovery Place Kids
We all know that North Carolina Summers are HOT. Beat the heat and play
inside with Discovery Place Kids—Rockingham! Discovery Place KIDSRockingham features developmentally-appropriate experiences that
encourage imagination, curiosity and skill-building. The museum is openTuesday—Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday noon– 5:00 p.m.

4. Enjoy an evening drink on an outdoor patio
Cold drinks to the rescue. After a long day at work or watching those kids that
you wish could be back in school, enjoy a nice drink on a nice outdoor patio! La
Cabana Mexican Restaurant and Pattan’s Downtown Grille both offer outdoor
seating as well as some amazing food!
5. Try a wine tasting at Little River Vineyard & Event Center
Did you know Little River has a tasting room on site? You sample wine or
order a glass and explore the grounds. The tasting room is open Wednesday
through Saturday from 10 am until 6 pm and Sundays from 1 pm until 6 pm.

6. Plaza Jam in Downtown Rockingham
Plaza Jam takes place from May until October. This family friendly event is free
and tons of fun! Bring your lawn chair and head down to Cole Plaza in
downtown Rockingham to hear great music and even better company!
7. Tour the historic Depot in Hamlet.
The Historic Depot Museum in downtown Hamlet is a great way to spend a few
hours exploring Hamlet and railroad history. Located in Downtown Hamlet, the
depot is home to many historic railroad artifacts and exhibits. Be sure to check
out the model train set of 1952 Hamlet as well.

8. Catch a race at “The Rock”
Have a need for speed? Then Rockingham Dragway is most defiantly the place
for you! With events constantly going on , you can always find something fun
to do at The Rock. Check out their website for a schedule of events below!

9. Fishing
Richmond County has no shortage of fishing spots, so grab a pole and get out
there and catch a big one! Some local fishing spots: Hamlet City Lake in
Hamlet, Indian Camp Lake in Hoffman, McKinney Lake Fish Hatchery in
Hoffman, and Hinson Lake in Rockingham.
