WEEKLY LINKS Orchards Golf Club FROM THE GM Jason Waters, PGA May 8th, 2014 In This Issue From the GM From the Pro Instruction Upcoming Events Weekend Specials On the Course Membership General Manager/Director of Golf I don’t know about all of you, but I am so happy to see the weather finally change and it looks like spring has finally arrived. Matt and the entire grounds crew have been very busy getting the course ready through non-ideal conditions and every day we see more and more improvements. You will notice some specific areas they are working on and I thank you in advance for being patient as we work to make the course better. This week we launched a monthly calendar of events for the clubhouse. The team is committed to providing a fun, enjoyable experience in the clubhouse for all members and I hope you will take advantage of what your club has to offer you. Chef Mark has put a lot of thought in to creating a fun experience in the clubhouse. The golf calendar is off and rolling. The Andy Vitali Member/Member or Member/Guest is right around the corner. If you haven’t registered, please consider playing. This event offers a great opportunity to play with a fellow member at the club or introduce a future member to the fun that we have here at The Orchards. Jodi has been hard at work showcasing the club to all of our potential members. If you have anyone who you would like to see join you at the club, please let us send them an invitation on your behalf. May is the biggest month to get new members introduced to The Orchards. Let us help you fill the remaining open memberships with your friends. E-MAIL ME Orchards Pride #4 Greenside Bunker. Wednesday at 8am and at 8pm. Thank you members for raking the bunkers and returning them to the condition you found them. Either that, or you are so good, you don’t hit golf balls in bunkers here at The Orchards! In order to care for your course, please make sure carts stay away from green surroundings and stay on paths where present. Thank You. FROM THE PRO Jonathan Banas, PGA Head Golf Professional Now that spring finally seems to be upon us, it’s time to highlight some of the unique new opportunities that we have to offer this year. Let’s first take a look inside that golf bag. If you are like me, there is at least one or two clubs in there that have a tendency to upset you on a semi-regular basis. Obviously the problem is not the Indian, but it may be time to look at a few of those arrows. Keep in mind that we will have skilled tech reps from Titleist, Taylor Made and Callaway on the range for demo day on Saturday, May 17th. This will be a great opportunity to try out all of this year’s new technology and see if there is a new club that will enhance your current set. The event will take place from 10 a.m. and last till about 3 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity, so try not to miss it. Did You Know? The James D. Young Memorial Tournament entry begins Friday May 9th at 7am. If you wish to get more information on the event or register, click HERE for more information. We are taking 56 teams and expect to SELL OUT, so plan to sign up quickly. Thank You. Orchards Pride If you cannot make the demo day, new at the Orchards this year is some of the latest club fitting technology that can be administered by the professional staff. Whether it’s spending a little time at the range with a few driver shafts, or a full blown club fitting that includes a launch monitor and fitting carts options, we now have much more technology and expertise than before. If you are interested in a custom fit, please see any member of the professional staff. As always, please see me with anything that you may need. Better weather is just what is needed to show the fruits of our labor this spring. Greens aerification, verticutting, topdressing, tee renovation, and rough seeding will all benefit from some warmth, a few well-placed showers, and sunny days! I look forward to layering more management practices on top of the work we've already done to keep improving the course conditions and playability. The Grounds Committee had a productive introductory meeting this week where many ideas, goals, and plans were put on to paper for implementation this season. We will be sharing much of this information with the membership as soon as it becomes relevant and we work things out in more detail. Please bring all concerns, questions, or discussion to me or any member of the committee. We’re all glad to help! Please continue to enjoy May golf, and stay tuned regularly to this newsletter and the maintenance blog for more information. Things will start moving more quickly now that the weather is better and staffing levels increase. Happy golfing, I look forward to seeing more of you out on the course. Equipment Review The Big Bertha Alpha, Callaway’s lowest-spinning driver, is designed for the player looking for several adjustable features to fine-tune launch conditions by adjusting vertical center of gravity, loft, lie and directional bias. The new Big Bertha Alpha driver is made up of eight different materials including carbon fiber, titanium, aluminum, tungsten and steel. Callaway managed to remove weight where you don’t need it, such as in the crown, and use it in places where it can be useful such as the Adjustable Perimeter Weighting or Gravity Core. Stop by the Golf Shop and Schedule a Professional Fitting with One of the Members of our staff.
