Just after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, emergency personnel responded New Franklin Road, near the Burger King, in reference to an automobile accident with injuries. According to the Patrol- man Ley Wynn, of the LaGrange Police Department, a grey Dodge Avenger was traveling north on New Franklin Road when it collided with a green Chevrolet Lumina that was attempting to turn left onto New Franklin Road from Mimosa Terrace. By the time police arrived, paramedics were already treating the female driver of the Dodge, who only sustained minor injuries. Police were however, unable to speak to the driver of the Chevrolet, who was trapped in the vehicle. The 79-year-old driver of the Chevrolet had to be extricated via the Jaws of Life by the LaGrange Fire Department and was later airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center for possible serious injuries. In the meantime, police were able to speak with the driver of the Dodge, who stated the other vehicle pulled out in front of her and she did not have time to even try to avoid the collision. Witnesses at the scene also advised police that the Chevrolet pulled out in front of the other vehicle, which had no way to avoid the accident. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor for either of the drivers, who were also both wearing seat belts.
