We wish to play a unique and vital role in our community, not just by offering beautiful wares for sale but also by fostering a space in which people of all ages might embrace their creativity, hone their skills and take advantage of lovely materials in new and exciting ways. We at Kreatelier are always thrilled to conjure a novel product, experiment with an inventive technique or re-imagine an old nothing into a marvelous something. Let us show you how! come work with us! crafty saturdays workshops for children Drop off your young craftsperson to explore basic sewing skills. In classes no larger than 6 students, children (ages 5 and up or 8 and up) will learn about basic hand and machine sewing and discover different fabrics through very simple projects. Whenever possible, our instructors try to upcycle leftover fabrics and materials to demonstrate how easy it is to conserve even when creating. Visit the store to see examples of sewing projects. MAKE A DECORATED PILLOW MAKE A STUFFED CREATURE SESSION 1: Sat, November 6th, children age 5 and up SESSION 2: Sat, March 19th, children age 5 and up 10:30am -12:00pm $30 Instructors: Tracey Gamache and Line Daems Who wants to learn how to make a pillow? Come make it happen with the help of Kreatelier! Children will learn how to put a basic pillow together using the sewing machine and embellish it with hand sewn appliqués. All materials will be provided. SESSION 1: Sat, December 11th, children age 5 and up SESSION 2: Sat, March 12th, children age 5 and up 10:30 am-12:00pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Real or imaginary, it is up to the student. Using fuzzy fabrics, shiny buttons and soft stuffing, children will make a very special snuggle animal or creature that can’t be found in any store. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. MAKE A FABRIC DOLL Sat, November 13th, children age 8 and up 10am – 12pm $40 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Bringing their imagination, children will design and make a one-of-a-kind fabric doll. Using a basic doll pattern, students will bring hair, face, clothes and life to their new keepsake friend. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. MAKE GREETING CARDS Sat, December 4th, children age 5 and up 10:30am – 12:00pm $30 Instructor: Line Daems Did you know that you can actually sew on paper? Using fabric shapes, letters and buttons, make your own stash of unique greeting cards. You will bring home fun cards for every occasion throughout the year. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials provided. MAKE DOLL SLEEPING BAG SESSION 1: Sat, January 15th, children age 8 and up 10:30am – 12pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache During this class, students will decorate and sew a quilted sleeping bag, big enough for an 18-inch doll or their favorite stuffed animal. Lined with soft flannel and equipped with a built-in pillow, beauty sleep is guaranteed. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. MAKE A MINI MESSENGER BAG WITH BRAIDED STRAP SESSION 1: Sat, January 22th, children age 5 and up SESSION 2: Sat, April 30th, children age 5 and up 10:30 - 12:00pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Children will design, sew and decorate their own special small messenger bag to carry all their personal belongings. The strap will be braided with colorful fabrics. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. MAKE VALENTINE CARDS T-SHIRT CREATURES Sat, February 12th, children age 5 and up 10:30am – 12:00pm $30 Instructor: Line Daems and Pernilla Frazier Do you struggle every year to come up with special valentine cards? Kreatelier will help you take care of that problem. During this class students will use fabrics scraps to make colorful love greetings to all your near and dear ones. All materials will be provided. Sat, April 9th, children age 5 and up 10:30am – 12:00pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Bring in an old t-shirt and Kreatelier will help you to trace a crazy shaped creature and make wacky face decorations using hand sewing techniques. Students will cut and stuff their creature and close it using the sewing machine. Please bring one old t-shirt, all other materials will be provided. JUGGLING ANIMALS Sat, February 19th, children age 8 and up 10:30am – 12:00pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Using fun colored scraps of felt and fabrics, students will make small animals and then fill them with dried peas. These creatures will be just the right size and weight for juggling. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. MAKE FABRIC MESSENGER BAG Sat, April 16th, children age 8 and up 10:30am -12:00pm $30 Instructor: Tracey Gamache During this class, children will learn how to design and make their own special fabric messenger bag, big enough to fit everything needed for all kind of trips. Sewing machine and hand sewing techniques will be addressed. All materials will be provided. CUSTOM WORKSHOPS AND PARTIES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS! All projects can be scheduled at your convenience. Have a craft-worthy occasion? Want a DIY birthday? Missed a class or would like to repeat a class with some friends? We can help. All instructors can offer their workshops at other days and times. All workshops can also be modified for older or younger children. Private classes are available too. Kreatelier can provide a unique and creative experience for everyone. Students bring ¾ yard each of lining and a pretty fabric and will learn how to create and sew this practical fabric box with handles for easy carrying. Sewing machine will be used and interfacing will be provided. Kreatelier will provide sewing machines but students should bring their own machine if possible. No previous sewing skills required. THE ART OF FELTING SESSION 1: Thurs, November 18th, 6:30 – 9:30pm $55 SESSION 2 : Wed, March 16h, 6:30 – 9:30pm $55 Instructor: Wendy Mueller Head, heart, hands and plenty of soap and water are the basics. This class is a crash course for beginners and some new techniques for the experienced felter. Ordinary sheep’s wool will be transformed into magical skin-like felt. Students will make an object both sculptural and/or utilitarian. A rubber play ball or soap will be used to create a felt basket or ball. Learn about different types of wool, how to prepare raw fleece, wrapping a form and make embellishments. During this class students will learn machine appliqué and how to sew a mitered corner. All materials will be provided. Thurs, February 3rd, 7 – 9pm $45 Instructor: Tracey Gamache Students will make one or more multipurpose cotton draw string bags. Use it for laundry, storage, traveling etc. This eco friendly reusable cotton bag will become a lifelong companion. All materials will be provided. Kreatelier will provide sewing machines but students should bring their own machine if possible. No prior sewing skills required. MAKE A ZIP-POUCH Wed, February 16th, 7 – 9:30pm $50 Instructor: Pernilla Frazier and Tracey Gamache Back by popular demand! Have great fabric that aspires to be a fluffy pillow? Come make it happen with the help of Kreatelier! Construction, closures and piping will all be addressed. Please bring 1 yard of fabric of your choice. If you want contrasting piping, bring ¼ yard of a different fabric. A pillow insert will be provided. Kreatelier will provide sewing machines but students should bring their own machine if possible (including a zipper foot!) No previous sewing skills required. Students will be using natural linen and an array of colorful and gorgeous prints while learning basic bag construction, freeform patch working andzipper construction. She has been working for Kreatelier since the store opened in 2008. Her outstanding sewing work, eye for detail and patience make her a wonderful teacher! Tracey has her own small sewing business. Kirsten Cole designs and produces a full line of ecofriendly, handmade accessories and home accents. She also teaches fashion courses including garment construction, draping and patternmaking in the C.E. program at RISD. Her specialty is creative costuming for both the stage and the film industry. Pernilla Frazier and Line Daems are the creators and owners of Kreatelier. Established in 2007, the company is both an innovative textile product design studio and a unique retail store, dedicated to offering colorful, functional, environmentally aware, European-inspired design. Line and Pernilla are excited to share the textile crafting tradition with the community through their own workshops and the workshops of others. To find out more, visit www.kreatelier.com Wendy Mueller is a studio artist specializing in handmade felt tapestries and dyed and printed textiles. Educational background includes a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, Archie Bray Residency, Helena Montana, Summer Textile Institute, RISD. She has been a New England Foundation for the Arts Fellowship recipient and has been commissioned work thru One Percent For Arts. In 1990 she received a travel grant from RISCA to attend the first International Felt Symposium held in Arhus, Denmark. Her work has been exhibited at the American Craft Museum. Paige Bennett-Bonn is an eco-friendly designer who makes handbags from high-end upholstery and homedécor remnant fabrics. Along with her home accent creations, her work can be found at her Etsy shop as well as at other stores in New England. Paige started working at Kreatelier in 2010.
