Car Club Cavalcade - California Automobile Museum
March/April 2011 Vol. 24 No. 2 From the Director Dear Members and Friends, As Spring begins to peek out at us in the form of budding daffodils (my favorite flower in case anyone is inclined to surprise me with some), baseball training and glimpses of sunshine, I always feel the renewal that this time of year represents. I’m excited about all our new docents in training; hopeful about innovative visions and plans for the Museum in the coming months and energized by the new events and collaborations planned for 2011 including the Folsom Motorfest, Shriners Concours and a few movie projects. Some newsworthy items to keep you up to date on what’s happening around these parts: In 2010, for perhaps the first time ever, event rentals surpassed vehicle sales as our top revenue stream. That’s good news for rentals (great job Hallie!) but not such good news for our car sales. As you may remember, our car sales program was closed down for about 3 months while we waited to get our Dealer’s License through the DMV, so thankfully sales are picking back up. Be sure to check out all our new listings on Hemmings.com and ClassicCars.com! Sierra Chapter ATOS (owners of the WurliTzer currently housed at the Museum) have opted to begin their search for another facility with a better guarantee of longevity and more availability on Friday evenings for their silent movie series, so we’ll be very sorry to see them go! We recently said goodbye to Kaela Nelson, our Marketing and Education Coordinator for the last several years, but we say hello to Gina Azzarello, our new Marketing Specialist, and we’ll seen add a new Education Coordinator to our staff as well. Admissions continued to stay strong through 2010 (see chart p.2) and we are hoping for the same trend in 2011! Please stop in to see our Dropped & Chopped Exhibit if you haven’t already, as well as our Automobilia! exhibit which changes almost weekly! Hope to see you soon. Best regards, Car Club Cavalcade March - The Kaiser-Frazer Owner’s Club will be showcasing some of its members’ vehicles. Help us save Museum $ by requesting the email version of this newsletter! Dear Readers, Hello! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Gina Azzarello and I am a new face around the museum. I am joining the team as the new marketing specialist. My background comes from CSUS and personal experience in digital media, promotional campaigns and marketing. So far, I am impressed with the wonderful volunteers and docents that our museum has, the friendly staff, and feeling of acceptance. I am thoroughly enjoying learning about all of the programs and exhibits the California Automobile Museum offers. I am looking forward to the future, especially our next exhibit, American Muscle! American Muscle opens on April 9th, 2011 and I am planning some fun activities for our grand opening. I am very open to new ideas us on Facebook and leave a comment. Thank you so much for all of your support. Drive on! - Gina Azzarello Greetings! recently to check out the latest happenings. Of note is our current quarterly exhibit, Dropped th and Chopped, on display through March 27 , which features some truly spectacular hot rods and customs, including a few Sacramento icons. American Muscle is coming up next th beginning on April 9 constantly striving to improve the flow of our permanent exhibits as well, and to tell our stories as logically and effectively as possible. Look for more and bigger changes in this direction in the near future. For those of us who are at the Museum regularly or daily, it can be easy to get swept up in the everyday concerns and crises that arise, to only plan one or two steps ahead of where we are now, but we must remember that a first - picture that all of our recent changes represent, and let us know what you think. Your feedback, questions, and comments are always welcome they help the Museum continue to grow in exciting new directions!
