hillside, with shoots out to about 12-18 inches after some soaking rains in late
levels and likely reduce them intentionally to lessen the water requirements in
what promises to be a dry season. It will be unlike any season in our memories
unless we get some summer rain, but it will make delicious wine no matter what.

2010 Kuleto Estate “Villa Vista” Cabernet Sauvignon
2006 Kuleto Estate Syrah

Our 2010 “Villa Vista” pumps out an amazing volume of exotic red fruits and flowers
(red currants and passion flower), showcasing a balance of sweet and savory spice
aromas. It enters the mouth sweetly and arcs over the mid-palate with laser-like acidity.
It’s still very much in its infancy due to minimal racking to preserve the aromatics.
Decant it for several hours and enjoy with any braised meats.
The 2006 Syrah is a beautiful deep red-purple, loaded with berry syrup and
bacon-like aromas. With age, it has replaced most of its fresh fruit aromatics
with the riper fruit elements. The mouth is enormous! It enters the palate sweetly
and then explodes to all corners of the mouth. I recommend a good one-hour
decanting to really enjoy this beauty.

3% Petit Verdot, 3% Syrah (last three co-fermented with Cabernet Sauvignon at harvest)

2011 Kuleto Estate Malbec
2010 Kuleto Estate Zinfandel
This Malbec is all about exotic aromas and freshness in the mouth. In 2011, we produced
one pure Malbec lot and another one that was co-fermented with some Zinfandel that
looks and tastes often like Malbec. We use the larger 500L barrels for Malbec because
they preserve the juicy fruit aspect of the variety. This wine is loaded with deep red
and black fruit aromas that are very exotic, fresh, and layered with a touch of coffee. It
enters the mouth very softly due to the lower alcohol and gentle tannins.
This 2010 Zinfandel has the hallmark ‘big fruit’ and ‘peppery’ aromas, yet is also
made more complex with a brooding, dark wood aroma reminiscent of polished
mahogany. Though quite alcoholic, it is balanced by its incredible acidity that keeps
it from feeling hot and allows it to fill the mid-palate. Our Zinfandel often reminds
me of wines made elsewhere in the world. Our 2010 Zin brings to mind Italian
Amarone – big, flavorful, and alcoholic but somehow light on its feet.
