Emily Tapio PG/SF
“A coach on the floor, Emily Tapio can play every position on the
court. Emily plays the point, the 3 and the 4 regularly for us this
year. She can score from all points on the floor, handle the ball,
defend, and is a strong rebounder. Emily is one of the most unselfish
players I’ve ever come across as a coach and makes all of her
teammates better. She is among the leaders in all statistical categories, is always our leading rebounder, and has games where she is
the leading scorer, rebounder, and assist maker. Emily brings
leadership and gritty toughness, plus a will to win, to every game
and is never slowed down by minor injuries. Division 1 potential is
written all over Emily Tapio. She is coachable, her great listening
skills in-game translate to an advantage on the court. Brewster
High School has a star in the making and Emily will be a 1000
point scorer in Class A as early as her junior year.”

Margo Hackett PG/SG
“Margo is a premier scoring guard that is not afraid to shoot from any position on
the floor. Margo continues to improve her passing and ball handling skills, making
her a serious threat whenever she touches the ball. She gets in lanes and can finish.
Margo is an excellent free throw shooter. Margo has bought in to playing on the
ball defense and has made great strides on ‘D’, adding to her already strong
offensive game. Margo is turning into a complete player and is coachable. She will
set new scoring records at Pawling High School that will stand for years to come.”

Christa Scognamiglio SG
A diamond in the rough, Christa has been a great find for the Pride. One would never
know she is a freshman, she brings a great deal of poise and leadership to the court.
Her effort is exemplary, you won’t find a more active defender than Christa. She
invades passing lanes, putting opponents under a great deal of pressure and is almost
guaranteed to provide 4 points a game off of steals. Christa handles the ball with
confidence and drives to the basket strongly. Her shot continues to improve and
Christa can reel off bunches of jumpers in some games. She rebounds with confidence
from the guard spot and can play the 1, 2 and the 3 positions. Christa brings a lot of
intensity to the practice gym and has Division 1 potential in her future.

Aly Tuman SG/SF
“Aly has a flair for making the big shot, with two under her belt, this season, one to
win and one to tie a game that the Pride later won in OT. She is a performer that
brings veins filled with ice, always calm down the stretch. Aly has an excellent
jumper from 15 feet out and brings tough on-the-ball defensive skills. Aly can attack
the basket off the dribble and has a solid left hand, and finishes with both hands, in
addition to a tear drop. Aly is a fighter, tall with long arms, a skills player that will
be an asset
to any college team.”

Vania Simpri PF/C
“Vania has a big, strong body and soft hands. She is a great free throw
shooter and pressure, late game situations, seem to have no impact on her
ability to hit them. Vania has a nice 10-12 foot jumper that she should be
encouraged to take more often. She has a huge upside, and has not scratched
the surface of her potential. Vania is a hard worker and coachable and she is
working to continue to strengthen her hands and play well around the basket.
Vania was a big part of Brewster getting to the Final Four in Class A, with
three games of 20+ points and she’ll be needed if that school hopes to
complement Emily Tapio and win a Gold Ball.”

ever come across as a coach. The ultimate team player, Jenna plays with more
heart than a lion and makes her entire team better with her example of hard work,
hustle, and by deploying her premier people skills to better the entire unit. Jenna
brings an excellent jump-shot from the 12 to 17 foot range and plays excellent onball defense. Jenna never surrenders and as a coach I consider myself fortunate to

“Gabby is a warrior on the floor, it’s just that simple. She’s bought in and is moving
forward along the learning curve rapidly and is coachable. All that fails to describe
the intense spirit, literally that of a prize fighter, that Gabby brings to the floor. She
personifies toughness and rebounds as if her life depends on it. She adds a courage
factor to her teammates, makes them all feel more confident. Gabby is fearless and
will play Power Forward for Carmel High School next year and I already have her
penciled in for ‘Most Improved Player”… and potential bodyguard.”

“Onyx has a great build for basketball and is very athletic. Onyx is a
strong rebounder and can put the ball back in with either hand. She has
shown the left handed hook shot and is a shot-blocker. Onyx can hit the
jumper from the foul line in and has great potential and can write her own
ticket as soon as she realizes how much of a basketball player she can be.”

NY Pride ALDO completes 4-1 run at Blue Chip Pre Season Challenge at
University of Richmond and VCU
What a difference a year makes. The 2009 'young guns' edition of NY Pride ALDO ran off a record of 4-1 at the
Pre Season Challenge in Richmond, compared to last year's 1-4. In the process it began to reveal its character
as a relentless team-defense machine, holding opponents to 30 or less points in three games. There was evidence of big-moment potential as Aly Tuman nailed a three in the closing seconds to tie a game that then ended
up going to double OT against the Elmira Lady Express (following her game-winning layup at the Future Stars
showcase). This was Pride ALDO's second outing against the northern New York powerhouse, which features
strong front-court players, a leather-lunged signature coach and an athletic PG. The final game of the tournament, held at the University of Richmond's Weinstein Center, ended 52-30, in the favor of NY Pride, against a
NEPA Flames team that brought plenty of size and hard-nosed front court play to bear. The game started off as a
close affair but the Pride pulled away behind a barrage of threes from Margo Hackett, Emily Tapio, Raegan Knox,
Jenna Gambino, and Christa Scognamiglio.
Kasey Heyda SF
Kasey is a second year Pride player and brings Briarcliff High School and
Don Hamlin coaching, which means State and Federation championship
experience, to the team. Kasey can hit the jumper from 12 feet in, and can
go to the basket strongly when she wants to. Kasey helps us by playing four
positions and brings toughness and intensity to the floor at all times. She
will bang, rebound, and lifts the team up when she checks in.”

“Our youngest player, Kelsey is an 8th grader that has a chance to become a special player. She is big and strong and can
hit the foul line jumper. Look for her to impact the Carmel High School varsity team in a positive way over the next four
years.”
—Aldo Redendo
Kiara Maruo G/F
“Kiara is a very hard-working player that is strong around the basket and in
the paint. She has a knack for heading into the rebounding scrum and coming
out with the ball and putting it in the basket. Kiara is a cool customer that
never loses her head and works hard on defense. She can hit the 10-12 foot
jumper and is an excellent weak side rebounder for her size. She’ll be an
important player for Ridgefield varsity in the coming season.”

Westchester/Putnam All Star and Rockland County All County teams include
PRIDE players Knox, Weiner, Tapio, and Scognamiglio as well as Pride
alumni
The Journal News (readership 120,000) announced the Westchester/Putnam All Star team for the 2008/2009
season the week of April 20th. The list included spots and honorable mentions for members of last year's showcase squad, Jessie Kavana (Sr.—Mahopac), Devon Quattrocchi (Sr.—Brewster), Brittany Horne (So.—Carmel),
and Tori Jarosz (Jr.—Lakeland). This year's NY Pride was well represented by Katie Weiner (Jr.—, Briarcliff), Emily
Tapio (So.—Brewster), and Raegan Knox (Fr.—John Jay). The Rockland County All County team included honorable mention Christa Scognamiglio (Fr.—Pearl River).
Ourania ‘Nia’ Yancopoulos PG/SG
Nia is all about energy and brings it in abundance whether in a game, in practice or while
training. She brings an intensity and love of the game that comes along once in a while,
and has yet to reach her potential as a player. Nia is a slick dribbler that can hit the jumper
from all ranges and the 3. She’s been hampered by some injuries the last three seasons but
will be matriculating at Hackley in Tarrytown and will be a sophomore next year, creating
ample opportunity to become the player she is meant to be. Yorktown lost what might have
been the best guard to play in that school in years.”
—Aldo Redendo
Carey Berry SG/SF
“Carey is a freshman with a lot of potential. She has a good shooting touch from 15 feet
out and is not afraid to go to the basket. Carey can score with either hand on the inside and
runs the floor. She is coachable and will be a big part of the Putnam Valley High School
varsity team next year and going forward.”
—Aldo Redendo
Taylor Pompilio SG/SF
“Taylor is the unsung hero of her team, tough as nails and can do everything well, especially for a freshman. She rebounds aggressively for a 2 Guard, and then some, and makes
the right pass, using her excellent court sense. Taylor has a good left hand and can go to
the basket from either side. She has a consistent free throw, works hard in practice and
games equally, and will be heard from at Lakeland High School, starting with next season.”
—Aldo Redendo
Raegan Knox PG/SG
RAEGAN KNOX: “John Jay’s Raegan comes from an enthusiastic
basketball family. Her two brothers will be playing at Union College
together staring in the 2010/2011 season. Raegan, a freshman, plays like a
senior. She has a deadly outside shot and can drive to the basket strongly
with either hand. A true scorer, Raegan adapts very well when put at the
point guard position. Raegan is an excellent on-ball defender and plays
with intensity every moment she is on the court. She will likely be a 1000
point scorer in Class AA for John Jay High School. Raegan is easy to
teach and has a high basketball IQ. If she continues to improve at her
current rate she will be a Division 1 prospect.”

NY Pride girls 16U breaks ground on new season at Future Stars Invitational
In the US Navy they call it a 'shake down cruise'. In the fjords of Norway, the occasional 'viking swimming lesson'
has been utilized to separate young men that fight for the surface from those that sink to the bottom. At NY Pride,
the Future Stars Invitiational filled all of these roles and more as PRIDE JAMES and PRIDE ALDO waded into
hardwood combat with the likes of the Long Island Xtreme, Elmira Express, and Long Island Lightning, teams
with 'four years', 'two years' and 'three years together' under their collective waistbands. The photo below shows
PRIDE ALDO players fresh off a layup at the buzzer by Aly Tuman for a 2 point win over the Lightning. The team
completed a 4-0 weekend that included cruising over the Xtreme by 15, and tight wins over Elmira and the
Lightning, plus another over a Future Stars team. On the PRIDE JAMES front, standout play by Brewster's Vania
Simpri, with three double-digit scoring games was coupled with Andi Moschetta running the point and serving as
top scorer in two games. Parents and players were impressed with the fire-in-the-eye exhibited by PRIDE
JAMES' Gabriella Rodriguez who plays this game with the heart of a warrior.
Play with the Pride, Train with Pride Section I ALL SECTION RECIPIENTS
The NY Pride is proud to announce inclusion of current and recent players on the list of All Section recipients for
the 2008/2009 season in Section I. The following players received All Section honors, including honorable mention:
Devon Quattrocchi (Brewster), Tori Jarosz (Lakeland), Margo Hackett (Pawling), Emily Tapio (Brewster), Raegan
Knox (John Jay Cross River), Jesse Kavana (Mahopac), Katie Weiner (Briarcliff), Brittany Horne (Carmel) and
Christa Scognamiglio (Pearl River). In the photo below (top), the Pride's Raegan Knox knocks down another free
throw for John Jay while Carmel's #2 Brittany Horne looks on in the low block. The next photo (middle) is the
Pride's Christa Scognamiglio taking her defender off the dribble on her way to depositing another two points for the
Pearl River Pirates. In the bottom photo, the Carey Berry of Putnam Valley is closely guarded by Yorktown's Ann
Kelsey while the Cornhuskers' Jenna Gambino looks to anticipate help defense. Berry, Gambino and Kelsey are all
playing for the NY Pride ALDO squad during the 2009 AAU season.
