KEYNOTES PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA KEYSTONE REGION December 2010 KEYSTONE REGION HOLIDAY 2010 (2011?) BASH ---- by Bill Simon III Happy late season's greetings to all of you. Your Carrera Christmas, High-Speed Hannukah, and/or Keystone Kwaanza will soon be memories. Your faithful Executive Board considered the hustle, bustle, and hassle associated with all those weekends and office parties in December, and has again decided to celebrate another year of Porsche fun after the holidaze (!) are finished. So, this year's 2010 Keystone Holiday Bash will be in 2011, specifically on Saturday evening, January 15th at the Nittany Lion Inn on the Penn State campus in State College. So-o-o-o-o, now that all the other holidays are past, come on out and join your Porsche friends for a laid-back evening of fun and fellowship, maybe even a little Porsche talk, and even a few late-holiday presents which didn't make it under your tree. Here are the details. Keystone Region Post-Holiday Bash: Saturday evening, 15 January 2011. Times: Cocktail hour, with suitable munchies, at 6:00PM (Cash Bar). Dinner at 7:00 PM. Cost: $25.00 per person, incl. tax and gratuity. WOW!!! Only 25 bucks per person!! (Note: This is your best deal ever to start out the New Year!! More than half of your costs are being underwritten by your Keystone Region. Such a DEAL!!! ) Menu: Select from the following three entrees, each with an international touch: (1) Mediterranean Style Short Ribs, braised with a sauce of toasted almonds and dried apricots, with tomatoes, sweet potato, and buckwheat cakes. (2) Tangerine Roasted Chicken, an 11-oz. European style chicken breast, with snow peas and jasmine rice. (3) Sake-Ginger Shrimp, sautèed with zucchini and scallions, with a sake-garlic and ginger sauce, over rice noodles. All meals include soup, salad, veggies, and, for dessert, an old-fashioned chocolate layer cake, more sinful than a Carrera GT. Wine will be available. Location: The "Alumni Lounge" at the Nittany Lion Inn on the Penn State campus. (Enter the main hotel entrance. To get to the Alumni Lounge, go thru the hotel lobby; go past "Whiskers" (the bar); turn left at the Dining Room entrance, and go down the hall to the "old main entrance" of the Inn.) Directions: The Nittany Lion Inn is at the northwest corner of the Penn State campus, at the corner of Park Ave. and North Atherton St. (Business Rte. 322) in State College. It's a large white brick building with blue shutters on the windows (...Blue .... White,...Penn State ... get it?). Enter hotel front off Park Avenue. Parking: Es ist kein Problem: (which, if you're coming from Arizona, means "No Problemo, Señor): The Nittany Lion Inn main entrance is directly adjacent to the Nittany Parking Deck, easily visible from the hotel front. Get your parking ticket stamped at the hotel front desk on the way in for free parking. The Nittany Lion Inn does really first-class work. Come and enjoy the after-holiday time with like-minded motorheads. Now, you KR Guy dudes --- we again promise not to talk about cars ... at least not too much ... for most of the evening. Also, the famed Keystone Region Goodie Store will be on-site and open all evening, just in time to get that belated Keystone Region present for your favorite Porsche nut. Also, there will be many fabulous door prizes. The Logistics (Really IMPORTANT Stuff Here): We're limited here to about 50 or 60 people, so please RSVP EARLY to Bill Simon. More importantly, please send Bill a check for your meals and your selection of entrees. continued next page Even more importantly, please RSVP to Bill not later than 3 January by phone or e-mail. "The [proverbial] check's in the mail" is OK here, but the headcount and choice of entrees needs to be to the hotel planners by 7 January. Bill is at: 814.235.1356 (yes...."one 356"...) and at [email protected] . Send checks (payable to Keystone Region, PCA) to him at: 880 West Aaron Drive, State College, Pa. 16803-3119 . Overnight Lodging: If you're coming from outside the immediate Centre County area, take advantage of some super economical overnight lodging (including free breakfast). Region member Mike ("I still wanna buy a vowel") Szczesny has arranged a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn and Suites for a paltry $39.00 per night. The Hampton is located at Williamsburg Square, behind the Olive Garden and Holiday Inn Express, at the Toftrees/Woodycrest exit of I-99/US-220/US-322. Call the Hampton at 814.231.1899 for reservations, and mention the "Keystone PCA" rate for our special price. For additional help, call Mike at 814.234.3721 (home) or 814.880.3788 (cell), or e-mail him at [email protected]. As in previous years, our end-of-year get-together (...actually beginning of a new year...) is always a highlight. So, come on out, win vast and glorious door prizes, and end the holiday season in style with your Porsche friends!! See you there!! January Board Meeting: For the 2011 Board of Directors and any or all other interested members, your Board will have its first planning meeting on the following day, Sunday, 16 January 2011, in State College. Details will be available at the dinner. As always, all Keystone PCA members are invited and encouraged to attend. We welcome your ideas! FROM BEHIND THE WHEEL It's Sunday afternoon, the leaves are falling, and I'm thinking about the end of another Keystone PCA season. To steal someone else's words, “It was a very good year”. Remember the days when we had four or five cars for an event? Our Cars and Coffee breakfasts averaged 15 cars, our picnic at J. D. Davis's B&B had sixteen cars, and the very next weekend we had over twenty cars for Eric and Karon's Canyon Cruise. How good is that? At the fall Zone 2 President's meeting they couldn't believe the participation we get with a 75 member region. Speaking of the President's meeting, it was again interesting and fun. I picked up some new ideas for the incoming Keystone Board that should help us continue our up-ward trend. Incidentally, here is some news hot off of the press. The zone 2 DE at VIR will be held on March 18-20; the zone 2 club race at VIR will be held on June 24-26; the new PCA national headquarters will be open in January and will be in Columbia, Md. In 2011 Tech Tactics will become a national event, hosted by Porsche and will be in Easton, PA. February 26-27 (2 one day events). Also, there will be an ALMS race through the streets of Baltimore on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and it will be called the Baltimore Grand Prix. If there is no Porsche Platz, zone 2 is contemplating a PCA corral. Pretty neat huh? As you know, this is my last article as Keystone President. The elections are over and I will turn over the reins to the new President at the holiday party in January. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you for supporting my efforts, and the region, for the past 2 years. Because of your effort and participation, we've prospered in every way, and really had a lot of fun. Now I'm going to sit back and enjoy the events while others worry about all of the details. So, thanks to all of you for “coming out to play”. And remember: It's not just about the cars, it's about the people!
