Wednesday, May14, 2014 5 STAR MESSAGE BA: Where Leaders Learn This weekend, Brookfield Academy will graduate its 44th senior class. This year’s class of 84 seniors is the largest graduating class in the school’s history. On Friday evening, the Senior Dinner will be held at the Wisconsin Club to recognize and honor the Class of 2014 and their parents. On Sunday afternoon, at Brookfield Academy's commencement ceremony, we will proudly present diplomas to our outstanding and deserving seniors. These events highlight the culmination of an educational journey filled with fond memories, notable achievements, and lasting friendships. It is with great joy, satisfaction, and gratitude for having had the opportunity to educate these exceptional students that we firmly believe Brookfield Academy’s 44th graduating class is prepared for college and life. HHHHH ALL SCHOOL H Congratulations, Class of 2014! These students are ranked among the best scholars in the nation. They have been recognized as amazing athletes and have won countless awards for their efforts on our stages, on our athletic fields, and in our classrooms. Best wishes to our graduates as they continue their educational journey! H Graduation Parking: Additional parking will be available at Liberty Hall. The east door to Patriots Hall will be open for your convenience. Parking will also be available at the Fields of Freedom, with a shuttle bus to and from Patriots Hall. H Congratulations! Seniors Liam McCarty, Jimmy McMullen, and Justin Zhu have been awarded National Merit Scholarships of $2,500 each. Approximately 1.5 million students entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarship winners are chosen from approximately 15,000 distinguished finalists. H Cum Laude Society inductees: Sam Baureis, Neil Chand, Emily Esser, Griffin Gill, Paige Hammond, Morgan Malatesta, Emily Marks, Liam McCarty, Jimmy McMullen, Robert Neff, Sangwoo Park, Simar Puri, Daniel Trunzo,Clare Urbanksi, Hee-Jun Yang, and Justin Zhu. Congratulations! H BA French students score big at the State Concours Oral! Thirty-six students competed in a State French forensic style competition, earning 34 gold medals and two silver medals. Competition categories included Poetry, Extemporaneous Prose Reading, and Extemporaneous Conversation. French has been part of the BA curriculum since the school’s founding, and our students continue to enjoy and excel in all aspects of language learning. Congratulations! H AP Microeconomics students present their business plans and showcase products in Patriots Hall Gym on Friday, May 23, 1 -3 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend! UPPER SCHOOL H Awards were given to members of the graduating class at the senior assembly. Well done! H Upper School Performing Arts Reception,Thursday, May 22, 6 – 8 pm, Patriots Hall Performing Arts Studio. A student cabaret will feature senior performers. Come celebrate the accomplishments of theater and music students this year, including an induction of members into the International Thespian Society. MIDDLE SCHOOL H Parents selling textbooks to incoming 2014-15 MS students/parents can fill out the textbook resale form located in the MS office or online under forms. BA will only share contact information with interested parents; resale forms will be posted for prospective buyers in the office by Mrs. Randall’s desk. All textbook prices and sales are determined and finalized between seller and buyer. Contact Mr. Ricci with any questions. H Fall Sports Registration runs through Friday, May 23; See Sports Report. LOWER SCHOOL & PRIMARY SCHOOL H Level 5 parents interested in purchasing textbooks for use at home can find the 2014-15 textbook list online. BA provides one set of textbooks; many parents buy an additional set. Some current Level 6 parents may be selling additional copies. Routinely check the MS office for textbook resale forms to see what is for sale. All prices and sales are determined and finalized between seller and buyer. ADVANCEMENT/ VOLUNTEER NEWS Teacher Appreciation Week Thank you to our Teacher Appreciation Week volunteers, especially Debbie York, Brooke Erlinder, Kris Guest, Julie Halquist, and Chris Schlagenhauf for doing such a wonderful job showing our faculty and staff how much we appreciate them! Dinner Auction Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Dinner Auction a success! As a direct result of the generosity shown by our sponsors, donors, guests, and volunteers, we raised $235,000 to increase campus security for our students next year! There truly is no place like home!
