YURODNY ENSEMBLE
YURODNY ENSEMBLE Founded in Dublin in November 2007 by saxophonist, composer and producer Nick Roth, Yurodny perform contemporary interpretations of traditional music from around the world and work collaboratively with performers and composers who share their passion for the re-imagining of tradition and the vitality of the present. Described by the international press as 'triumphant...vibrant and irresistable', 'music sans frontieres...breathtaking elegance' and their recorded work as ‘surely one of the most significant releases to come out of Ireland in decades’ (AllAboutJazz) Yurodny have performed across Europe and are signed to the Diatribe label, with whom they have released several critically acclaimed records and feature-length documentary films. In 2013 Yurodny were awarded the CultureConnects EU Presidency Award by Culture Ireland (International) and the Arts Council of Ireland (National) as part of a cultural programme celebrating Ireland’s cultural contribution during their tenure of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. As part of their journey to re-imagine traditional music in today’s changing society, they have worked with some of the world’s leading composers and given several important world premières, including recent new work by Mamoru Fujieda, Kamran Ince, Onur Turkmen, Ian Wilson (Arts Council of Ireland) Lars Graugaard (Danish Arts Foundation) and Dan Trueman (Arts Council of Ireland). Their performance schedule for the first half of 2013 includes a headlining performance at Kings Place, London for the opening night of the Songlines Encounters Festival, a two-week residency in Copenhagen and Oslo as further research into the Yurodny SciLens project (sensor augmentation of the ensemble) and performances at GAIA Festival, Switzerland and the HOPA! Festival Dublin.
