before lunchtime
Norcia was founded by the Sabini behind the Sibillini Mountains and already in the II
century B.C. became a growing Roman municipium. The town of Norcia, surrounded by
still intact walls of the 1300s, is rich of historical-artistic evidence and, in addition to its
beauty and to nature trails, offers a rich, genuine cuisine and typical products.
8-Day “Medieval Italy Tour“ - Rome, Umbria, Tuscany, Florence
• Check-in at Palazzo Seneca.
A house in an Umbrian palace: this is the atmosphere you live in this charming residence
of the 16th century, that re-opens its doors in Norcia, in the heart of Umbria, after a careful
restoring. Fusion of design and tradition, simplicity and quality, this is the secret of this
new elegant project promoted and realized by Vincenzo and Federico Bianconi, the last
generation of a family who has been offering Hospitality and Foodservice since 1850.
Lunch in Norcia - Restaurant suggestion: Fonte Antica.
Afternoon
Departure for the Marmore Falls
The Marmore Falls has ancient artificial origins: the Romans diverted the course of the
Velino River towards the 165-metre high drop off creating what is now a popular tourist
attraction.
• On the way back to Norcia visit to Terni and Spoleto.
Terni it is not only the city of the steelworks, of iron and fire. For those with enough curiosity
to discover it, Terni reserves immense surprises deriving from a three-thousand-year history. It
is a rare example in Umbria of a modern city perfectly integrated with the more ancient part
of the city. Terni is surrounded by countryside that has enchanted visitors for centuries.
Terni is also the city of Saint Valentine, the patron saint of lovers all over the world. His
basilica, containing his tomb, is the subject of continuous pilgrimages, while every year the
entire city dedicates important events to its patron saint.
Spoleto: the city of felicitously situated on a sunny hillside, surrounded by green rises. A
centre founded by the Umbri, with probably Etruscan influences, it was Romanized at the
time of Samnite wars.
Present-day Spoleto is a city with a lively archaeological, artistic and monumental content.
The city boasts a consolidated cultural tradition and interesting handcrafts customs.
Evening
Dinner in Norcia - Restaurant suggestion: Vespasia, at Palazzo Seneca.
Contemporary-style cuisine is served in the restaurant’s two pleasant, small dining rooms
overlooking the garden.

DAY 3: A FULL DAY IMMERSED IN HISTORY
A full day to discover the history of the ancient and spectacular region passing through 3
key cities such as Foligno, Assisi and Gubbio.
• The first stop is in Foligno is one of the very few Umbrian cities built in the plain. It rises up
on the banks of Topino river where the river erupts into the valley in an area where extensive
drainage of the large swamplands took place, first during Roman times, then during the 15th
and 16th centuries, and finally in the 19th century. Not to be missed a visit to the Romanic
church of St. Mary Infraportas and the Abbey of Sassovivo, situated at only 6 km’s distance
from the city centre. The former is distinguished, other than by the frescoes dating back to
the 15th and 16th centuries, by its beautiful bell-tower and by its 11th century portico.
• Second halt in Assisi, a medieval city built on a hill, is the birthplace of Saint Francis,
closely associated with the work of the Franciscan Order. Its medieval art masterpieces,
such as the Basilica of San Francesco and paintings by Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone
Martini and Giotto, have made Assisi a fundamental reference point for the development of
Italian and European art and architecture.
Lunch in Spello - Restaurant suggestion: La Bastiglia (1 Michelin star).
Creative, occasionally sophisticated cuisine is served in an elegant, rustic-style dining room
or on the panoramic terrace. Full use is made of traditional Umbrian ingredients.
• Next stage is Gubbio, which vies with Assisi for the title of Umbria’s most medieval town.
The beauty of its twisting streets and terracotta-tiled houses is enhanced by the imposing
Apennines. Every one of its inhabitants’ homes has a medieval origin, and the city itself
is protected by medieval walls. With its smartly preserved medieval streets and rugged
mountain setting, Gubbio’s culture flourishes with local festivals and a strong tradition of
ceramic making.
Return to the hotel for dinner
Evening
Dinner in Norcia - Restaurant suggestion: Taverna de’ Massari.
A “taverna” in the heart of the resort: a small dining room with 3 tables, and from here you
enter the main dining room, with arched ceilings and frescoes; traditional dishes.
Overnight at Palazzo Seneca 5* (Norcia).

Trasimeno and the Tiber valley. The town is worth visiting not only for the beauty of its setting
but also for its fine old buildings. Perugia is renowned as the principal centre of the Umbrian
school of painting, the leading members of which, Pietro Vannucci, called Perugino (14461523), and Bernardino Betti, called Pinturicchio (1455-1513), both worked here. The
