I want to sing for joy this time of year! I love
summer so much! I just can’t get enough of
the flowers, warm days and extra hours of
daylight.
We had an awesome trip to Peru in the early
spring. Each day of our tour brought new
wonders, fantastic sights and incredible
beauty! I would have to say that, besides
Machu Picchu, the sight that “wowed”
me the most was the Uros Floating Islands
on the 13,000- foot high Lake Titicaca. The
Uros Indians retain centuries-old practices
as they live on islands made completely of
tortora reed….I still can’t believe it! What an
amazing world we live in! Some photos from
our trip are on this spread .
Many of you may have begun packing for
our upcoming trip to Colorado Springs,
departing on June 19. Ah, the beautiful Rocky
Mountains in early summer—time to get
excited!
I’d like to thank Miss Southeast Iowa’s
Outstanding Teen McKenna Tackes for being
our guest speaker at our April luncheon.
McKenna will be in the Miss Iowa Pageant
June 9, 10 and 11 at the Adler Theatre in

Let’s go for a scenic ride this fall on a diesel powered train! Our 2-hour excursion takes
us from the depot in Boone, through the Des Moines River Valley and to the old mining
community of Fraser, crossing the 156-foot tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge and the Des
Moines River Bridge along the way. We will enjoy a light snack, sandwich, beverage and
scrumptious dessert en route.
On our way home our evening meal awaits at Smokey Row Coffee Co. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
This unique restaurant is a favorite with the locals, and this evening it’s our turn to experience
its charms.
Price includes train ride with lunch, train museum admission, evening meal at Smokey Row,
