“I was at the lowest point in my life.
I couldn’t provide for my kids.”
When I moved here, it was rough during the summers to keep
my kids fed. We had nothing at first. No beds, no refrigerator.
What little food we had, I kept in a cooler, and I ran out for ice
every day. Things are better now – my five boys are all honor
students, involved in after-school activities and leaders at their
schools. But I remember how hard I struggled just to feed
them. We volunteer for the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid program
now – and I get my neighbors involved, too – because I know
what my kids went through. If I can see to it that other kids are
eating during the summer, I know I’m making a difference.

Thousands of Georgians know what it’s
like to be trapped. In fact, Georgia has the
third highest rate of poverty in the country,
according to the U.S. census.
Action Ministries is breaking down the
barriers that stand in their way by filling
basic needs of hunger relief, housing and
education. They’re getting out and realizing
their potential.
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, and we lead people out of poverty
WE
ARE
by providing hunger relief to hundreds of thousands of Georgia’s children.
Nearly 800,000 children in Georgia receive free or reduced-price lunch at school, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer.
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, through the dedication of thousands of volunteers and donors, ensures that these children are fed in the
summer. Unlike other feeding programs, we take the food to the children in their neighborhoods, removing the barrier of lack of
transportation. In 2013, Smart Lunch, Smart Kid delivered 210,055 healthy lunches to children in the neighborhoods where they live,
along with enrichment activities and mentoring opportunities to ensure that their minds, as well as their bodies, are nourished.

·Make lunches and deliver to your area SLSK site
Smart Lunch, Smart Kid relies heavily on corporate and organizational giving,
which includes donations of funds and food. Leading corporations such as
Walmart, Gas South, WellCare and Sam’s Club have chosen to invest in their
communities by supporting the program.
·Decorate lunch bags
·Deliver lunches to children in their communities
·Provide an enrichment activity or
mentoring for the kids
Examples of the impact of your gift:
· $12.50 Ensures one child eats every day for a week
·Organize a food or book drive at your church,
school or civic organization
· $50 Provides lunch for one child for a month
· $1,500 Feeds one neighborhood for a month
·Enlist your colleagues in a “Volunteaming” effort
to make lunches as a team
· $4,500 Provides lunch for one neighborhood for the entire summer
