Shuswap Lake Estates Ltd. Box 150, Blind Bay, BC VOE 1HO 250-675-2523 Aug, Sept, Oct 2016 Shuswap Lake Estates Golf & Country Club The 4 day BC Senior Men’s Championship that was held fr om J uly 18–21was a huge success. The golfers golfed a total of three 18 – hole rounds. We had 144 senior men participants from BC, AB, SK, Washington, and Yukon. The players were completely impressed with the condition of our golf course. However, we do apologize to the residents for the early morning mowing that went on for the 4 days. Jen and her staff only had a limited time each day to prepare the course and early morning mowing was a necessary part of preparing for this event. After Mondays windstorm there was a fair bit of scrambling to get the clean up done and we extend a huge thank you to all the members, BCGA officials, and others that came to the rescue to help get the course ready for the 7:30 am tee time. This tournament has shown us how dedicated and committed our members are to the success of our golf course. The 80 some volunteers that signed up to help us in the effort to showcase this course were truly amazing and we are very thankful for all the time and work they put into this event. I heard from several of the participants and the BCGA officials that they have never been to an event with as many volunteers as we had and their friendliness and willingness to help was second to none. We really do live in a fantastic community and this event has put us on the map. Several participants commented that they had never heard of Blind Bay until now and that it is “Truly A Hidden Gem” We couldn’t agree more. It has been a pleasure to host this event and to work with each and everyone of you.— Wendy Winner of BC Senior Men's Tournament, age group 50 – 69, is Harry Ferguson from Invermere, BC. He won with a total score of one over par for the 3 days. It was a fun day, although a somewhat rainy day, with a Golf Poker Run, Golf Cart Parade with carts decorated “Luau Party Style”, a Hawaiian Luau Dinner Buffet and finishing off the evening on the dance floor to live music. We raised a total of $5,092.55 that was sent to the Canadian Red Cross to the Alberta Fire Appeal. These funds were to be matched by the government as well, making a total contribution of $10,185.10. During the course of the day, we had many customers from Fort Mac who either currently live there or have family and friends living there. Many stories were shared of people having to free the raging fire leaving their homes and basically all their possessions behind. Some were homeless with a handful of possession in their cars. We truly hope all of the Fort Mac residents are getting the help and support they need and that they are starting to feel a sense of their community being built back up again. The above is necessary so that our water system can keep up with the larger demand attributed to the summer months. We are told that sprinkling in hot weather during the daytime can actually do harm by drawing the roots to the surface. The tariff, issued by Victoria states: A customer who contravenes water restrictions is subject to one warning notice per year. For each subsequent notice a $50.00 charge applies. This is a standard clause by Victoria Water Rights. Pictured above are Lana German and Gail Orser, winners of the Ladies Summer Swing Tournament that took place on July 8. Congratulations to you both on your achievement. More Golf News Two More Events Happening In August Highlands Senior Open Tournament is on August 22. Players must be over 50 to participate. On April 3, 2016 Kara competed in Vancouver at the Miss Teenage Canada B.C. Competition where she was titled Miss Teenage Thompson Okanagan. On July 16, 2016 Kara left her home in Sorrento to compete in the 10-day competition in Toronto. We wish her lots of fun and success in this competition. To follow are Kara’s words “about what it is for her living in the Shuswap” that she has been sharing throughout the competition. I have been fortunate enough to be raised in the most beautiful spot in the Interior of BC. A little community of 2 little towns that have meshed together! Sorrento/Blind Bay! We are known as the Heart of the Shuswap, and for very good reason! We have the Shuswap Lake in our backyard, front yard, it's all around us! When I talk, I say that I live 'on the Shuswap' and the usual response is WOW! You're so lucky! But it really is more than that! This town comes ALIVE in the summer! That's just how it is, plain and simple! People from all over Alberta and across BC flood this town in the summer! We also have many NHL hockey players who have their summer homes here! We also have many bed and breakfasts and resorts ( with a summer cabin feel to it ) and they are full with excitement and happiness. Sun tans, bikinis and flip flops are everywhere! A super fun energy. The best part though is most definitely the lake itself! Shuswap Lake! It is huge! We have Little Shuswap, Big Shuswap - and the lake has many 'arms' as well! Seymour Arm, Salmon Arm ( which is also a town close by ) Ansty Arm - these are joined together by the 'narrows' I am so blessed to live in a Summer Paradise! It is a dream for anyone who loves to be on the water. The Shuswap is a boaters dream. You can go kayaking, wake boarding, swimming, fishing but this summer already I have discovered Stand Up Paddle Boarding! What an amazing way to start your day! It's so calm and peaceful in the mornings and you can paddle forever! Some even paddle over to Cooper Island. Copper Island is the lakes 'Main Event' it's located in the Big Shuswap and is Awesome! You can hike it, go cliff jumping and it's a meeting place for everyone out on the lake! The water is warm, everyone is playing music - you can tie your boats together and just float! Another cool part of the lake is that it is on the shores of Blind Bay! There are beaches that we use, but it is also right by Centennial Field! This is owned by Shuswap Lake Estates and they work with other locals to host many different bands to come and play throughout the summer! So you can float in your boat and enjoy Music in the Bay! And last but definitely not least is the best way to end your day on the lake would be to stop in at FINZ. This is our awesome little restaurant on the water! Giant patio overlooking the lake with great food and awesome people! They also bring in bands to play, fresh seafood.....it's the best way to unwind after a tough day on the lake! Yes, I am a 'small town girl' but I live in the best small town ever! The people here, our community is Top Notch! This definitely is the Heart of the Shuswap!!!!! We have found that even these restrictions that go back some 45 years are still enforceable. Home owners constantly ask us to enforce these restrictions. Many people have chosen to purchase property in Shuswap Lake Estates because we have these restrictions in place and therefore are entitled to have them enforced. Therefore this notice is to notify residents of Shuswap Lake Estates to remove any of the above mentioned restricted items from your property. This is the ONLY NOTICE YOU WILL RECEIVE. If it should happen that we need to ask the courts to proceed, their costs rapidly increase. In the past, we have found these costs end up costing somewhere between $6,000 and $8,000. This is a lot of money, but the person who has bought in Shuswap Lake Estates because of our restrictions is entitled to have them enforced. Yours truly, J.G. Barker, Pres.
