Celebrant:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us pray.
THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the
mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all
virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for
those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives
and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
COLLECT FOR BAPTISM
Almighty God, by our baptism into the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, you
turn us from the old life of sin: Grant that we, being reborn to new life in him, may live in
righteousness and holiness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
THE LESSONS
The people sit.
A reading from the Revelation to John 73:9 – 17
(LECTOR)
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every
nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the
Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying,
“Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the
angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they
fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing, “Amen! Blessing and glory
and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!
Amen.”
Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, and where have
they come from?” I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.” Then he said to me, “These
are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them
white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship
him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter
them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any
5
scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will
guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Psalm 34: 1 – 10, 22 Benedicam Dominum The people respond after the asterisk.
(LEM 2)
1 I will bless the Lord at all times; *
his praise shall ever be in my mouth.
2 I will glory in the Lord; *
let the humble hear and rejoice.
3 Proclaim with me the greatness of the Lord;
let us exalt his Name together.
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me *
and delivered me out of all my terror.
5 Look upon him and be radiant, *
and let not your faces be ashamed.
6 I called in my affliction and the Lord heard me *
and saved me from all my troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encompasses those who fear him, *
and he will deliver them.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; *
happy are they who trust in him!
9 Fear the Lord, you that are his saints, *
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger, *
but those who seek the Lord lack nothing that is good.
22 The Lord ransoms the life of his servants, *
and none will be punished who trust in him.
A reading from the First Letter of John 3: 1 – 3
(LEM 1)
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is
what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we
are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this:
when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this
hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
People

Thanks be to God.

SEQUENCE HYMN “Lord, Make us Servant of Your Peace” (Dickinson College)
The Hymnal 1982, #593, stz. 1 – 2

Celebrant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew 5: 1 – 12
People:
Glory to you, Lord Christ.
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples
came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. “Blessed are
the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. “Blessed are those who
are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you
when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my
account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they
persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Thanksgiving over the Water
Celebrant:
People:
Celebrant:
People:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Celebrant: We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved
in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in
Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was
anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and
resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By
it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful
obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship this child who comes to him in faith,
baptizing her in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are
cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our
Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
The Baptism
I baptize you, Kristina Sonika Estrada in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit. Amen.
Kristina, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever.
Amen.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this
your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised her to the new life of grace. Sustain her, O
Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give her inquiring and discerning hearts, the courage to will and to
persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works.
Amen.
Let us welcome the newly baptized.
12
We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his
resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood.

With the angels and archangels and the spirits of the blessed.
Lord, have mercy.
With Mary, mother of Jesus and bearer of God.
Lord, have mercy.
With the holy patriarchs, prophets, apostles, and martyrs.

For Mariann, our bishop, and Cassandra our Rector, for this holy gathering, and for the people
of God in every place.
Lord, have mercy.
For all nations, tribes, people, and languages.
Lord, have mercy.
For the sick and the suffering, the hungry and the thirsty, the poor and the meek,
and all who are persecuted.
Lord, have mercy.
For the dead and those who mourn.
Lord, have mercy.
For our country and those who live in it, and for our families, companions,
and all those we love.
Lord, have mercy.
For our ancestors and all who have gone before us in faith. (The people may say aloud the

ourselves and one another to the living God through Christ.
To you, O Lord.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father
Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
For in the multitude of your saints, you have surrounded us with a great cloud of witnesses,
that we might rejoice in their fellowship, and run with endurance the race that is set before us;
and, together with them, receive the crown of glory that never fades away.
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the
company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

The people stand or kneel.
Then the Celebrant continues
Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had
fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your
only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to
you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a
perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and
when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat:
This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and
said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for
many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

THIS WEEK’S HEALTH TIP. Building a Healthy Parish One Tip at a Time. Viruses spread by:
touching your mouth, nose or eyes after you touch the mouth, nose, eyes or hands of an
infected person or you touch surfaces like toys, phones, doorknobs, and computer keyboards
contaminated by viruses. Some viruses can live up to 48 hours on a surface. What should I do?
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or with an alcohol based hand gel. Be careful
not to rub your eyes, or touch your mouth or nose until your hands are clean. Sneezing and
coughing into the bend of your elbow keeps viruses off your hands and away from others.
