We gather to praise God, in God’s sanctuary, to rededicate our lives to the service of God through music, spoken word and discipleship. PRELUDE Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH * CALL TO WORSHIP (adapted from Psalm 150) Praise the Lord! Praise God in the sanctuary. Praise God for his mighty deeds. Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Christ the Lord is Risen Today! God of the empty tomb and of our empty hearts, when we are afraid to speak our faith in the world, forgive us and help us to find our voice. Forgive us when we are afraid to forgive and afraid to love again. When we are confined by our hurts, touch us with your wounded hands and set us free. When we are locked behind our doubts and fears, open our hearts, and give us peace. SILENT PERSONAL CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON God’s mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, that we are forgiven. Know this, and be at peace. Thanks be to God. Amen. * CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE 1. God’s Word is read and its message is proclaimed in scripture, music and interpretation. Christ is Alive! Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. The cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises ring. Love, drowned in death, shall never die. PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION John 20:19-31 SERMON Peace Be With You Thine Is the Glory Bible NT: Pg. 115 The Rev. Stanley Wherry JUDAS MACCABEUS The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Hymn 246, v. 1 THANKSGIVING After the proclamation of God’s Word, we respond by offering prayer and returning our tithes and offerings. RECOGNITON OF 50 YEAR MEMBERS Hymn 246, v. 5 * PRAYER OF DEDICATION The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. * AFFIRMATION OF FAITH PRAYER OF CONFESSION arr. David Cherwien Christ is Alive! 5. Christ is alive, and comes to bring good news to this and every age, till earth and sky and ocean ring with joy, with justice, love, and praise. WORD * HYMN 238 LLANFAIR Day of Arising The Choir sings an anthem based on Hymn #252 capturing the Easter and communion imagery of Christ with his disciples in their grief on the Road to Emmaus being revealed in the breaking of bread. * DOXOLOGY LESSON settings by John Ferguson & John Leavitt * HYMN 245 (Children will be dismissed to their Sunday School classes with their shepherds following the Children’s Message.) A time for quiet preparation before worship I bind unto myself today the strong name of the Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three in One and One in Three. (Attributed to St. Patrick) OFFERTORY SENTENCE OFFERTORY CHILDREN’S MESSAGE GATHERING PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP Greet one another with the sign of peace. THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER The Invitation The Great Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord’s Prayer The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right… and join their unending hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord. God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the Highest! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you, and … as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit…forever. And now, we pray as Jesus taught us: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. WORDS OF INSTITUTION AND THE DISTRIBUTION PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
