That is the goal of EVOKE loudspeakers. To inspire you to listen to your music or
watch a film as if for the first time. To hear it as if it were live in the moment.
Natural. In a holographic space. At ease. Dynamic.
EVOKE finds its inspiration from legends like Arnie Nudell of Infinity, John
Dahlquist, David Hafler and so many more. EVOKE is further inspired by the late
Brian Cheney of VMPS Audio who believed you could build a state-of-the-art
loudspeaker for a price that often exceeded the performance of much higher
priced loudspeakers.
That is the goal of EVOKE. Once you audition them you will forget you are
listening to electronics and speakers and become immersed in your favorite films
or music.

RearPanel
TheportandcontrolpanelsareonthebackofEDDIE.Itisimperativethattheportisat
least12”fromthebackwallforoptimumbassperformance.
Therearemidrangeandtweeterlevelcontrols.Theyarepresetduringtheburn-inatthe
factory.At12O’clock,EDDIEissetforflatresponse.Dependingontheacousticsofyour
roomorpersonaltasteyoumaywanttoadjustthem.Counterclockwiselowersoutput.
Clockwiseincreasesoutput.
Theleftspeakerbindingpostisforthepositive(+)leadofyouramplifier.Theright
speakerbindingpostisforthenegative(-)leadofyouramplifier.NEVERconnector
disconnecttheseleadswiththeamplifierturnedon.
Youcanfindyourserialnumberinthelowerrightcorner.Afterthe#sign,theserial
numberofthisspeakerwouldbe“EDDIE0000”.Yourspeakerwillhaveanumberother
than“0000”.

Electronics
OverallComponentQuality
EDDIEisoneofthefinestloudspeakersmade.YouandEDDIEdeservesupportingaudio
componentsofthehighestquality.Audiosystemsarehighlysynergistic-excellent
soundqualityinanyonecomponentcanraisetheoverallperformanceofthetotal
system,whilepoorerqualitycanseemtodiminishtheoverallresultmorethanyou
wouldexpect.Chooseyourothersystemcomponentswiththesamecareyouhave
devotedtoselectingEDDIE.Asageneralruleavoidreceiversorlow-pricedmultichannelamplifiers.Generallyseparatepre-ampsandpowerampsareyourbestchoice.
MinimumPowerRequirements
Whileyoucanuseaslittleas50wattsperchannel,EDDIEoperatesbest100wattsper
channelthatisstableintoa4-ohmload.Someuserswillfindtheseminimums
insufficient,whileotherswillwonderwhyanyonewouldneedlargeramplifiers.Your
listeninghabits,thesizeandacousticsofyourlisteningroom,andyourpersonalviews
willdeterminehowmuchpoweryouneed.
Maximumpower
Asapracticalmatter,ifusedinaroommatchedtoEDDIE,youcanuselargeramplifiers
andheartheperformancedifference.Indevelopment,EDDIEwastestedwithamplifiers
producingover250wattsperchannel.Theadditionalpowerwillyieldimmediate
dividendsindynamicrangeandclarity.
Withanyamp,beawarethatEDDIEhashislimits.Asmallampmayclipandburnthe
woofersvoicecoilormelttheplanarorribbon.Toolargeasignalandyouwillfirsthear
thewoofercomplain.Thismaybeduetotheamplifiersinabilitytoprovideproper
damping.ThewooferinEDDIEdoesextendto32Hzandintherightroommaygo
lower.Butitisnotdesignedtodothejobofasubwoofer.
Forspecificelectronicsrecommendationsandoptimumroomsizesspeakwithyour
EVOKEEDDIErepresentative.

Cables
Wiring
Systemcables,wiring,andconnectorshavecometooccupyacentralpositionin
audiophilediscussionsaboutsoundquality.Wemakenorecommendationsabout
specificsofcablesandinterconnects,excepttonotethatthepowertransferbetween
theamplifiersandspeakersshouldbeasefficientaspossible.Thismeansusingheavy
gauge,lowimpedancespeakercables.Thereisnosubstituteforpersonalexperiencein
theselectionofaudiocomponents,andnowhereisthistruerthaninchoosingcables
andinterconnects.
CableLengths
Pleasedonotcutororderanycablestoafinishedlengthuntilyouhavedeterminedthe
exactlocationsforallofyourcomponents.Cablesthataretoolongrarelycreate
problems(exceptforvastlytoo-longspeakercables),butcablesthataretooshortare
oneoflife’ssharperirritations.

Sources
EDDIEwascarefullydesignedtosoundgreatwithmostsources.Thisisnota
compromiseindesign–butrathertheresultofverycarefuldesign.
Thereare3typesofperformanceyoucanexpectfromEDDIE–Ecstasy,amazementand
disgust.
Withreferencematerials,EDDIEwillopenaworldofdetailyoumayhavenever
experienced.Well-mixedCDs,VinylandFLACfilesaregoodplacestostart.Someofthe
Pandorastationswithnewermaterialareverysatisfying.
Ifyou’vegonetoamovieandbeendisappointedthatitwasjustloud–you’lllove
EDDIE.Intesting,filmsproveverysatisfyingbelyingtheideathatyouneeddifferent
speakersformusicandfilm.Somuchforthattheory!
Thentherearethosesourcesthatarejustplainbad.Wedon’tmeanarecordwithsome
dustorafewscratches.ItisbecauseEDDIEhasexcellentphaseresponseandifyour
sourcewasmixedpoorly,compressedorrolledoffattheloworhighend,EDDIEwilllet
youknow.Anysourcecanbepoorlyproducedaseasilyasitcanbeexceptional.
Thereisoneexception.IfyouhaveamassedahugecollectionofMP3files,andmany
peoplehave,youwillmostlikelyfoundthequalitytobepoor.MP3filesarecompressed
intosmalldatafiles.That’swhyyouriOSorAndroiddevicecanholdsomanytracks.
Whilethesefileswillnevercomparewithaudiophilesourcesthereisawaytomake
themsoundbettersoasnottothrowawayalargecollection.
OneoptionistovisittheiOSorAndroidstoreandinstallanequalizer.Dosomeresearch
forthebestplug-ins.CarefullyfindacurvethatyoucannameEDDIE.Andrememberto
haveyourpre-ampvolumelowbeforeyoupluginyourdevice!
Anotheroptionistopurchasea“dock”withanonboardDACwhereyoucanpluginyour
iOSorAndroidmobiledevice.Thiswillprovideforthebestsoundqualitypossible.

BreakIn
DuringproductioneverycomponentforEDDIEishand-selected.Driversmustperform
withinparameterstomatchtheproductionsamplebothelectricallyandsonically.
Crossoversaretestedbeforeinstallation.Eachdriveristestedpriortoinstallation.And
whenthespeakeriscompleteithasathoroughvisualchecktomakesureEDDIEis
lookinggood.
Butthat’snotenough.Hehastoperform.EDDIEgoesthroughrigoroustestingtoassure
itmatchestheproductionsample.Thentherearemusictests.
Avarietyofmusicistestedatvariousoutputlevels.Thisispartofthefactorybreak-in.
Thisiswherethemidrangeandtweeterlevelcontrolsaresetforflatresponse.Finally,
theultimatereferenceisatrainedear.BesidesspecificationsEDDIEmustypassrealworldlistening.
WhenyoureceiveEDDIE,youshouldbeginlowerlisteninglevelsprogressingtohigher
listeninglevels.Afterabout50hoursofuseyouwillbehearingEDDIEathisbest.(Please

StereoSpeakerPlacement
FollowingafewruleswhenplacingEDDIEwilldelivergreatperformance.Toeinthe
speakerstowardthemainlisteningposition.EDDIEshouldbe2-3feetawayfromthe
backandsidewallsandbe6to8feetapart.Followingishowtosetyourlistening
distance:
A1to1ratioiswhereyourdistancetothespeakersisthesamedistanceasthe
speakersareapart.Thisisthemostengagingperformance–atruenear-fieldmonitor
experience.A1to1.5ratioissimilartothemixingpositionrecordingartistsusein
mixingTHXsoundtracksformovies.1to2ratiosareforalargerstagepresentation.All
ofthesepositionsarepersonalpreference.Pleasenotethatyourlisteningposition
shouldbe6–8feetawayfromthebackwall.
8-footorflatceilingscausethemostbassproblems.Soifyouhavehigherorvaulted
ceilings,EDDIEwillperformbetter.Acoustictreatmentsbetweenthespeakers,onthe
sideandrearwallswillhelpeliminatereflections.
Thespeakerstandisacousticallyimportant.ItprovidesafrontbaffleandanchorsEDDIE
tothefloorforoptimumbassperformance.EVOKEoffersamatchingstand*forEDDIE.

need3frontspeakers,2sidesandanLFESubwoofer.Thisisknownasa5.1system.
Add1extrapairofspeakerstotherearwalland1pairofspeakerstotheceilingandyou

Ifyourroomisdeepenough,youmayneed2additionalsidespeakers,and2additional
speakersontheceiling.Thisisperfectwhenyouhave2rowsofseating.Thiswouldbea

Listentoindividualtrackstoestablishalisteninglevel.Not
allrecordingshavethesameoutput.

preamp.Additionally,EDDIEpresentsatrue4-ohmload.Agooddampingfactorandlow
impedancestabilityisrequired.Lessthananoptimalampmaymayleadtoclippingand
causedamageoccurtothevoicecoilordamagetheplanarandribbon.
Mostofall,taketimetogettoknowEDDIE.You’llhaveagreatlong-termrelationshipas
yougrowtoknoweachother.
Care
EDDIEshouldbekeptdustfree-simplywipetheenclosures’finishedsurfaceswitha
soft,clean,lint-freeclothonaregularbasis.Remove
theclothgrillescoveringthespeakersandvacuum
themwithadustbrushattachment.Donotvacuum
whileontheenclosure.Thefrontgrilleclothmaybe
lightlybrushedtoremovedust.Donotvacuumthe
driversonthefrontbaffleever!
