At the return of the crusade, some ground
taken back from Palestine were widespread at
the highest point of the village. Was built
there the Church from the XIth century . This
History gave its name to the village of SainteTerre (Holy-Land), located on one of the paths
of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle.
It was a fishermen village (a fishery already
existed in the XVth century in Lavagnac).
Nowadays, some professional fishermen
continue this activity by fishing migratory
fishes (lampreys, shad, eels, elvers). SainteTerre is a little town at the edge of Dordogne
river, capital of lamprey, this famous fish
appreciated by gourmets. Offer you a walk
next to the river Dordogne, you will love its
charms, beauty of nature and calm. Some
stunning mansions were built in the XIXth
century all along the road of Lavagnac. In
summer, you can enjoy beaches with full
amenities on the edge of the Dordogne river.
Sainte-Terre is also a wine-growing fief.
Located on appellations « Bordeaux » and
« Bordeaux Supérieurs » that fringed the south
of Saint-Emilion appellation. Sainte Terre
count some 350 hectares of vineyards
exploited by more than 25 producers.
