Being editor of DOS has been great so far
but this month I ran into a few glitches...
technology is great when it works, and when
it doesn’t it can be a real challenge! A few
computer problems and a much needed
vacation have delayed this issue , but the July
issue should be in the mailboxes on time!

From the P2O Chairperson
Welcome to P2O!® As Chairperson of P2O® for
2014, I’m extremely excited about returning to
Granville for the third time. We hope you’ve
enjoyed the experience in Granville the past two
years. The feedback that we’ve received is 100%
positive, almost everyone like Granville as our
current location. We had over 400 cars and expect
this years event to sell out at a limit of 500 cars total.
Imports of Columbus, OH, Forgeline Wheels of
Dayton, OH, NJB Automotive of Westerville, OH,
Stoddard NLA, LLC, of Highland Heights , OH ,
Performance Auto Spa of Plain City, OH, and Aase
Sales of Galena, OH for enlisting as Major Event
Sponsors. P2O® also benefits from supporting
sponsors to ensure our event is first class in every
way.
This is my 4th year as Chairperson of this
tremendously successful event, and my goal is to
leverage the hard work over the last nine years by
volunteers and organizers to make this year the
best ever. Hosted by the Mid Ohio Region Porsche
Club of America , P2O® brings club and non-club
enthusiasts together to share in cars and great
conversations.
This year we expect up to 500 shiny Porsches to
attend the uptown Granville. Saturday July 26th is
the car show, with the evening party sponsored by
Byers, and Sunday the 27th is the organized drive. In
past years, we’ve registered over 400 Porsches from
19 states and Canada .
Your registration fee is a real bargain considering
it gets you an event T-shirt, event poster, and entry
into the car show where beautiful cars and sponsors
will be on hand to help make your Porsche
ownership experience even better. Attendees will
also have a chance to win great door prizes that will
be given away throughout the day. We think it’s the
best bargain of the summer.
Your attendance will help raise money for a
prominent cancer foundation, our charity of choice
for the fifth straight year. Everyone knows someone
affected by cancer and we’re asking everyone to
help find a cure. P2O’s® brainchild, MaryLynn
Roe, battled cancer with endless courage and this
year we are continuing the tradition in her honor.
MaryLynn’s Row is reserved parking directly in
front of show center for attendees allowing us to
donate money to charity every year to fight cancer
and help others. We also donated money to the
Humane Society.
As great as the cars are, it’s the great people that
create the success of this event. We hope you will
enjoy your visit to this year’s event and make
plans to attend next year. Look forward to seeing
you Friday night at Brews Cafe and the rest of the
weekend!
P2O® 2014 will be bigger and better than ever
without sacrificing the distinct personal touches
that make it completely casual and relaxing.
Sincerely,
Ron Thomas
We will continue with our Peoples Choice car
show with awards for the top ten percent of
registered cars (Top-50 awards). Thanks to Byers
Chairperson, P2O®

P2O® IS IN GRANVILLE ON JULY 25-27, 2014 — UPDATES TO FOLLOW
THINGS TO BRING WITH YOU
- Cameras and camcorders! P2O® is a unique venue unlike any other. The event is a traditional favorite for photobugs and professional
photographers and media outlets put P2O® on their schedule too! Bring plenty of film or recording space on your equipment because we’re
confident you’ll take more photos and video than you expect to.
- Coolers, snack items, and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome! The last week of July can be very warm so it’s not unusual for attendees
to bring a full cooler of cold drinks to battle the temperatures. Sandwiches and other ready-to-eat items are also encouraged for the do-ityourselfers. The city of Granville has a STRICT law against open containers of alcohol. If you wish to drink alcohol, please leave it at home
and patronize local Granville establishments. But most of all, drink responsibly!!
- Bring enough cash to patronize P2O® event sponsors! Products and services are available to help make your Porsche ownership
experience even better.
- Sunscreen, light clothing, and hats are advisable to protect yourself from the sun. While there are plenty of spots near show center to
take a break and enjoy air-conditioning, if you elect to spend most of your day outside it’s imperative to use common sense! Remember, it’s
the end of July.
- P2O® is a RAIN OR SHINE event. Prepare for all possible scenarios! Bring a rain jacket if the forecast looks suspect and any other foul
weather apparel you may need. For those who take extra care in the look of their Porsche, bring enough towels and cleaning agents to battle
the elements.

Yellow Springs Drive and Dine May 18th 2014
musician playing the steel drum filled the air as we
strolled along the sidewalk. Afterwards we said our
“goodbyes” and headed home our separate ways.
Beth and I headed back to Newark via Delaware
and the “Top Gear” trio of Jim Davis, Eric Carine,
Bernie Pipan and his son Bernie (Bernie squared)
headed home on the “super slab”.
Let me start by thanking everyone who participated
in our May Drive and Dine out to Yellow Springs.
The weather was “picture perfect” and the turnout far
surpassed what I anticipated. We had a very nice mix of
older air-cooled as well as the latest “high tech” models
show up for the drive. We met at Cup ‘O Joe located at
Lennox Square and had our last cup of coffee before
heading out around a quarter to eleven. The drive out
I-70 and Route 42 went well as reported by others
on the run and judging by “thumbs up from passing
cars and pedestrians our presence was welcomed. My
navigator Beth called ahead to Young’s Dairy to alert
them there would be eighteen of us showing up for
lunch and to clear the runway for our landing.
I wanted to mention that there were several new
members who Beth and I spoke with that were
participating in their first D&D with our club. To
those members Shinji Sakai, Betsy Eastlake, and
Joe and Julie Billmaier I hope we made a good
“first impression”. There were also several longtime
members including Bill Metais who drove in
from Washington Courthouse. Well those are the
highlights of the May ride. I hope you can join us in
June for our next D&D. Keep an eye open for info
in DOS and on Facebook.
Till we cruise again, Butch
It was an impressive site to see thirteen spotless
Porsche’s lined up in the parking lot. Young’s Dairy does
not disappoint and after chowing down on chicken,
burgers and milk shakes it was off to downtown
Yellow Springs to see the sites. The sounds of the street

Yes, I did take my Cayenne out on the course and I am happy
to report that there was at least one other crazy Cayenne driver
there terrorizing those little orange cones. Although we weren’t
nearly as quick as Cory in the Macan, the big Porsches proved
to be surprisingly nimble (sorta like that chubby kid in high
school who was really good at basketball). I would especially
like to thank the Panamera owner who rose to the challenge.
I finally got to see a Pano take an autocross run! It wasn’t the
quickest car out there by any measure, but in my book, it would
have won on style points alone.
A few weeks ago, along with Byers Porsche and the SCCA, we
launched the new Macan. If you were there I’m sure you had
a great time - especially if you had a chance to take a ride in
Porsche’s newest offering. While planning for the event, we had
several discussions with the leadership at Byers on whether or not
the Macan would be offered for rides or just put on display. Since
we were running an autocross, and the Macan falls into the “sport
utility” family of vehicles, we thought it might be better to just
to park it and let people climb around in it. Screw that - this is a
Porsche not a Lexus! The following weekend, Mike Tepley - our new Autocross
Chair, put on another event at the Columbus Motor Speedway.
There were no Cayennes or Pano’s, but we had a nice spread
of P-cars and a bunch of non-Porsches competing. I was also
happy to see several novices testing their car control skills for
the first time. Once again the old adages that smooth is fast and
you can’t win on horsepower alone ruled the day. The fastest
time of the day came down to a fight between Dave Wenger in
his 79’ 911 and John Brandt in his 84 SC - two of the oldest cars
there. John managed to best Dave by a couple 10th’s and took
home FTD - Great Job John!
Our next autocross is scheduled for July 20th at the Columbus
Motor Speedway. Come on out for some cheap, tire squealing
fun.
The new Porsche didn’t disappoint. In the hands of Cory Fergus,
Byer’s resident hot shoe, the baby Cayenne turned times on the
autocross course faster than almost any car out there - to include
a number of Porsches and a whole slew of other “sports cars” that
came out to play. It was truly impressive. And this was with three
other fully grown adults on board! Try that in your Acura MDX.
This just highlights the level of performance the boys in Stuttgart
have dialed into this machine. This particular model was the “S” equipped with a twin turbo V6 and the 7 speed PDK transmission
- which I think is German for “I am better than you.” Which of
course it is. Needless to say, the interior fit and finish was perfect.
If you are in the market for a small SUV, there is none better.
Many thanks to Kevin King and Byers for hosting the event,
supplying a great lunch letting us see what this Porsche can do. I
would also like to thank Simi Ritch and the SCCA for setting up
and managing a very fun autocross course. Be sure to check-out
the cool video on the MORPCA Face Book page (or search “Byers
Macan” on Youtube).
I’ll see you at the Autocross!
