Travel updates...
We are very much aware that there are a number of potential travel disruptions that will be
happening during 2015 as a result of various infrastructure projects led by Oxfordshire County
Council, the Highways Agency and Network Rail.
Please be assured that we are in constant contact with these parties to ensure that we can inform
you of their plans and potential impact it will have on travel and commuting. Please keep checking
the People & the Park website for regular updates but in the meantime, we have produced an
overview of the projects, which we hope you find useful.

Oxfordshire County Council & Highways Agency
What? A34 Chilton Interchange Improvement Project: north-facing slip roads.
Oxfordshire County Council is working with the Highways Agency on a scheme to construct north-facing slip roads to connect
the A34 with the A4185 Newbury Road and Hagbourne Hill at the Chilton Interchange. Direct access between the two Enterprise
Zones of Milton Park and Harwell Oxford, via the A34 will be achieved, reducing pressure on the local highway network. The north
facing slips will complement the capacity improvements at Milton Interchange.
When? Funding has been secured for the project and construction is provisionally scheduled to begin in January 2015.

Highways Agency
What? Drainage works on A34 near Milton Interchange.
The Highways Agency will need to narrow lanes and
enforce a 50mph speed limit with occasional evening
and weekend lane closures to facilitate drainage works
on the A34 near the Milton Interchange.
When? Work started on 1 December and is expected

In order to accommodate the new trains and electrification
infrastructure, Network Rail needs to reconstruct the
bridge over the railway at Foxhall Road, Didcot. To
facilitate these works the bridge will need to be closed for
approximately six months with a signed diversion route in
place for vehicles. A temporary footbridge will be installed
to maintain pedestrian access throughout. During this time,
the footbridge providing access to Didcot Parkway station’s
car park will also be reconstructed. A separate, temporary
footbridge will be available throughout.
When? The bridge has been closed from 28 July 2014
for approximately six months, the scheme is on schedule
to complete in January 2015.

Oxfordshire County Council
What? A34 Milton Interchange Improvement Project.
The scheme will convert the current junction (where the
roads from Didcot, Milton Park, Harwell and Wantage
join the A34) into a ‘hamburger’ style roundabout so
that Didcot traffic can cut through the roundabout onto
the A34 northbound, and the exit road from Milton Park
is widened onto the roundabout. This will support the
development of new employment opportunities in the
Science Vale UK Enterprise Zone and new housing in
the Didcot and Wantage & Grove areas.
When? Work is set to start in Q1 2015 and will last
for just over 12 months.
