ICD-10 represents more than just a disruption in a physician’s note taking habits, or a couple of new
letters and numbers for coders to tap in to their billing claims. It’s a fundamental overhaul in the way
that diagnoses and procedures are documented, and it will require specialized knowledge and a level of
proficiency many ICD-9 coders will initially struggle to master.

I took a medical billing and coding class and the instructor
was a master of the industry. She was informative and
extremely professional. She incorporated real world examples
in the lectures and homework assignments, which I am
grateful for because it helped me learn the coding process.
Ms. Canete covered the coding itself to insurance and current
healthcare issues affecting the future of billing and coding.
She also prepared my class to the best of her ability for the
exam, which I was so thankful for.

The City College of New York, Continuing and Professional Studies
Founders, managers and leaders in nonprofit settings regularly face significant organizational, resource
and policy choices as they endeavor to meet a need, address an issue, solve a problem and generally
serve the public good. In their efforts, they are faced with significant challenges: competition for space,
talent and resources as well as external threats, whether the ongoing recession, the aftermath of natural
disasters like Superstorm Sandy, man-made disasters like Newtown, change in elected and appointed
officials, Wall Street’s impact on charitable earnings and giving, budgetary reductions in public
financing of safety net programs, increased demands for results or social benefit impact and blurring
of distinctions among the three sectors of government, business, and non-profit.
The goal of this course is for students to gain a thorough understanding of the non-profit sector and
its impact on the policies, lives and resources touched by the sector. Students will also gain the
necessary background applicable to starting, working, managing or leading a non-profit organization.
You must complete both sections to obtain certificate.
