Celebrating 17 Years of Discovery!
Spring 2013 br ght ideas www.discoverymuseum.net Celebrating 17 Years of Discovery! Growth. Spring brings new growth and here at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, we are blossoming alongside our children. In the months ahead, stop by to witness the construction work at our future home on 19 W. Cork Street. The old Schewels furniture building is being transformed into a stimulating, bright, fresh and dynamic learning space through the creativity and skill of a host of individuals. It has been an honor to work with architects on this project at Reader & Swartz, with knowledgeable contractors at Howard Shockey and Sons, and with seasoned engineers at Painter and Lewis and Comfort Design. We are grateful for the suggestions proffered by many of you, and we are humbled by the generosity of our broad community of support. Donations continue to arrive and don’t forget that exciting naming opportunities are available. In recognition of so many who are making this museum transformation possible, we will have a special, interactive donor wall when we open our new museum in 2014. Growth also emerges in our expanding cadre of volunteers, in our new programs, and in partnerships across the region. Visit us soon to enjoy our thought-provoking math exhibit, or the World Discovery nation activity, or pick up a workbook to learn about the machines active at the downtown mall construction. Our Discovery Museum educators continue to design new programs for your family’s educational enjoyment. Even more growth is evident in our collaborations with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and the Smithsonian Conservation Biological Institute. Our Discovery Museum educators are working diligently to develop new summer camps at both captivating sites. This summer we are also excited to launch full-day camps here filled with a rich array of guest presenters and interesting activities. Be a part of our growth: share ideas with us, become a member, volunteer your talents, and reap the rewards. Consider yourself invited! Mary Braun, Executive Director Bright Ideas is published quarterly by the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum as a benefit of membership. It is mailed free of charge to members, and is also available free at the Discovery Museum and other participating locations. Copyright 2013 by the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum.
