With so many consumers spending money during the holiday season, the potential for fraudulent activity, identity theft and other dangers will surely increase. Under Georgia law, we are empowered to forward to the state balances in any inactive account in excess of five years. Any fee charges will appear on members’ quarterly statements. If a balance remains at the end of five years, the funds will be forwarded to the state. If a member claims the account, an adjustment will be made based on the dividend rate at the time and all fees will be reversed and refunded to the members’ account unless the inactive account funds have been forwarded to the state. Please make every effort to maintain an active account, and please notify the credit union of any changes of address. This notice is placed in this newsletter each year in an effort to help you avoid dormant account fees and/or the forwarding of funds to the state.
