Queen City Caller
November 2013 Bulletin
Presidents Message
It is definitely fall. If anyone had the chance to go to Letchworth or Ellicottville for the craft shows you got to see the
trees in the midst of changing colors.
Thank you to Arlene Huson for bringing our September speaker Laura Bohannon from Lawley Benefits Group. I
believe we all learned something about the new health care reform and that a lot of questions were cleared up.
At the November dinner meeting we will be having a food drive to benefit the Buffalo City Mission. Please see the
attached poster that you can put up in your office (if allowed) to help make this a success. If you are a coupon
shopper or look for the Buy One/Get One deals we can really help this worthy organization.
We will be teaming up with Channel 7 and Basil Chevrolet for the Toys for Tots drive in December. The toys don’t
have to be expensive! Rite Aid always has Buy One/Get One sales for $6.99. They have baby dolls, trucks and lots of
other selections that will put a smile on a child who otherwise might not have anything for the holiday season.
Thank you to Michelle DiMartile for another successful raffle towards our new IWOB banner. Next month we will
have 2 of the dining out books to raffle. We will also have some to sell and order forms that you can take to your
office to take orders.
Christine Kirby-Jewett has resigned from IWOB. I would like to thank Connie Smith for stepping up to take her final
year as a director and Jennie Matteliano for taking over the nominating committee.
Our board meeting this month will be Thursday November 7th. The meeting will be held at the M & T Insurance
Agency, 285 Delaware Avenue at 5:30pm. Board meetings are open to all members. I would love to see you there.
Yours in fellowship,

Thank you for those that attended the IWOB Video shoot on Sunday 10/27. We are still looking for a few pieces to
add to the video.
If anyone is interested in doing a voice recording or a short video clip we would be happy to make sure we are
including everyone.
We will have a microphone/recorder at the next dinner meeting to record member testimonials to add to the video.
Right now we have a lot of photos we can use but we need more members to assist in the narration of the story of
IWOB.
At this time, we are strongly encouraging member to participate as this will be a vital tool for IWOB moving forward.
Thank you!

Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work
What Everyone Should Know and Do
Snort. Sniffle. Sneeze. No Antibiotics
Please!
Are you aware that colds, flu, most sore throats, and bronchitis are caused by viruses?
Did you know that antibiotics do not help fight viruses? It's true. Plus, taking antibiotics
when you have a virus may do more harm than good. Taking antibiotics when they are
not needed increases your risk of getting an infection later that resists antibiotic
treatment.
If You Have a Cold or Flu, Antibiotics Won't Work For You!


Antibiotics cure bacterial infections, not viral infections such as:
o Colds or flu;
o Most coughs and bronchitis;
o Sore throats not caused by strep; or
o Runny noses.
Taking antibiotics for viral infections, such as a cold, cough, the flu, or most
bronchitis, will not:
o Cure the infections;
o Keep other individuals from catching the illness; or
o Help you feel better.
What Can You Do To Protect Yourself Or Your Child?
When you use antibiotics appropriately, you do the best for your health, your family's
health, and the health of those around you. "We want Americans to keep their families
and communities healthy by getting smart about the proper use of antibiotics," said Lauri
Hicks, D.O., medical director of CDC's Get Smart campaign.
What To Do


Talk with your healthcare provider about antibiotic resistance.
When you are prescribed an antibiotic,
o Take it exactly as the doctor tells you. Complete the prescribed course
even if you are feeling better. If treatment stops too soon, some bacteria
may survive and re-infect you.
This goes for children, too. Make sure your children take all medication as
prescribed, even if they feel better.
Throw away any leftover medication once you have completed your
prescription
What Not To Do

Antibiotics cure bacteria, not viruses such as:
o Colds or flu;
o Most coughs and bronchitis;
o Sore throats not caused by strep; or
o Runny noses.
