RECREATIONAL ATTRIBUTES E cotourism and fly-fishing are of course the main sporting attractions of Estancia El Tránsito, where fishermen can take on the challenge of reeling in the feisty dorado, known as the river tiger, or the succulent surubí. There are also opportunities to enjoy the scenery from the back of a horse, in a boat or simply hiking. Bird watching and photo safaris are a major favorite with visitors as the Esteros marshes are home to a profusion of different water bird species. CONSERVATION values T he wildlife is plentiful and extremely diverse: red deer, imported from other countries, graze alongside the tall leggy marsh deer which is a species under threat. Also on the endangered list are the ñandú, the South American ostrich or rhea, as well as two species of fish-eating alligator, the yacaré negro and the overo, the main predators in the marshes whose numbers are now on the rise after many years of being hunted by poachers virtually to the point of extinction.
