May 2016 Volume 7 Dundalk High School Newsletter Issue 11 Dear Dundalk Families: Principal Kristin Anelli Assistant Principals Stephen Arnold Kalisha Miller Brett Molin Dean Andrew Deming PTA President Maxine Erickson 1901 Delvale Ave. Dundalk, Maryland 21222 School 410-887-7023 Fax 410-887-7025 School Counseling 410-887-7027 Cafeteria 410-887-7033 Library 410-887-7033 Athletics 410-887-7288 NJROTC 410-285-7670 Our new turf field and stadium logo project will soon become a reality!! Starting on May 23rd, our stadium will be getting the long awaited turf field that was promised by the county government when the stadium was first created. The projected date of completion is August 5th. It was DHS’s responsibility to raise private funding to purchase the owl logo for the center of the field, and our generous community businesses and friends of DHS came to the rescue. We couldn’t be more thankful and pleased! The DHS current stadium serves not only our school and students, but the general public as a walking and running track that is open to the public during non-school hours from dawn to dusk. Our new turf field will be available to groups that secure a permit for its use. With this in mind, it is expected that Dundalk-Eastfield teams will apply to use the field, as well as other recreation groups and adult teams. This new state-of-the-art turf will allow for constant use by teams and community groups without the problems that a grass field presents. It will provide a safe, consistent surface and has a life expectancy of 10+ years. This is a group effort for which the Dundalk community can take pride. Just think of the county and state championships that could be hosted here! To date, $19,600. has been raised for the Owl Logo Project. Any funds above the cost of the logo will be used for additional stadium projects, such as an enhanced scoreboard and a much needed ticket booth. If you wish to be added to the growing list of stadium project donors listed below, please contact Derek Maki, Athletic Director, 410-887-7288 or [email protected]. In fact, it is a great time to remind students and parents of all grades that the state of Maryland requires 75 hours of service learning credit in order to receive a high school diploma. While some of these hours can be earned in classes offered through Baltimore County Public Schools, students will still need to earn service learning hours on their own. Check third quarter report cards to see if your child’s Student Service Learning hours have been met. As of April 19, 2016, 78 members of the Class of 2017 have not met the state SSL requirements. SSL forms will be available in the library and may be turned in to Ms. Cline or Ms. Elliott in the library. Remember, hours need to be earned with nonprofit organizations. If you have any question regarding service learning, feel free to contact Pamela Cline, Service Learning Coordinator, by email [email protected] or phone 410-887-7030. Yearbook Sales– Don’t Miss Out!
